this was kind of a dud to brake on wish the smith ep was this week and kid was last week.

Jordan 06-11-2021 03:59 PM

I liked Dynamite, I wish they had an extra hour. I love Foley talking wrestling. Foley is God.

Bad News Gertner 06-11-2021 04:25 PM

I totally forgot this was on last night. How was it compared to this years episodes.

Jordan 06-11-2021 05:19 PM

I think it was a good look at The Darkside of Dynamite. Could've been longer yes, but I enjoyed it a lot. Probably my favorite telling of the Jacques story. The abuse stuff was covered well with a lot of raw emotion. I would have enjoyed more about the glory days but it's not the Happy Side of the Ring.

Compared to this seasons eps it's among the best I'd say. I maintain that Collision in Korea was probably the least compelling for me. I think I enjoyed this more than Pillman's epsiode. I really liked Spivey, Foley and Lance Storm. Foley is just the best storyteller.

Savio 06-11-2021 06:35 PM

For what ever reason I was a big fan of Bulldog in his 2000 run for the WWF

Bad News Gertner 06-11-2021 07:13 PM

Much more enjoyable than that WCW he and Neidhart had in 98

Seanny One Ball 06-12-2021 04:52 PM

Rock Bottom in the dog poop!

Seanny One Ball 06-12-2021 04:58 PM

Dynamite episode was okay I suppose. There is literally nothing new in it and his ex wife and daughters were a fucking drag, also I was wrong about Mick Foley’s clothesline. They showed it at 12 minutes, not 5.
Still, the whole show consisted of about three stories, the clothesline, the Rougeaus and the shotgun wife incident.

The only really great thing about it was seeing Jacques Rougeau bullshit his way through it like he was having the best time since breakfast.
Man does he seem like a fun guy with a real zest for life.

Bad News Gertner 06-12-2021 05:17 PM

Lol Jacques is great. Such a carny.

Damian Rey 2.0 06-12-2021 08:27 PM

I was unaware of most of the stories shot Dynamite going into to this episode so I found it all very interesting and extremely saddening.

Seanny One Ball 06-13-2021 02:39 PM

So you only knew the Rougeau story?

I mean they really didn’t go into detail on anything besides the three main things I mentioned and those are all in Foley and Bret’s first books. I’m pretty sure Dynamite mentions it in his own book.

His book is pretty short and very angry but not a patch on Bob Holly or Ole Anderson’s books which were just loose wrestling stories held together with decades old rage.

I could be remembering it wrong, but I feel like everybody knew Billings was a bad dude way before the Benoit murders. The episode almost made it seem like everything came to light in the aftermath of Benoit.

It is a few weeks from being 14 years ago, so I might just be remembering the timeline incorrectly.

Jordan 06-13-2021 06:01 PM

I think Meltzer had reported on drama with Dynamite before the Benoit murders.

erickman 06-13-2021 06:43 PM

ole anderson would be a good darkside of the ring

Bad News Gertner 06-13-2021 09:25 PM

Watching the Grizzly Smith one. I love that Sam Houston says that Robin was one of the greatest women's Champs of all time and they kinda play up her greatness

She was fucking awful. AWFUL. One of the worst I've ever seen.

Damian Rey 2.0 06-14-2021 12:41 AM

Haha I didn’t bother to actually check how good she was off at all. But I trust you, Gerty.

Bad News Gertner 06-14-2021 12:47 AM

She was so bad. Poor Sherri Martel had to wrestle her night after night. The worst Women's champ of the Era and that includes Moolah

Her and Judy Martin wrestled at the 89 Royal Rumble and it was fucking awful. And Judy Martin is my favourite Women's wrestler

There should be a sugar hold episode. Al Snow describes the Anderson training regime for greenhorns and its a nightmare.
I think everybody should read Ole’s book. He’s the most unrepentantly miserable cunt in wrestling and his book lives up to it.

Bad News Gertner 06-15-2021 09:57 AM

I really gotta order that one. There's so many great wrestling books that I still want to read. I still haven't read Bret's. I think that might be my next purchase

Gonna watch the Dynamite Kid one tonight.

Seanny One Ball 06-15-2021 04:09 PM

Ole’s book is a top top wrestling book.
I forget which territory he ruined, it may have been Georgia, but he tells it like it is.
He also talks about making a lot of money through lumber.
I wish I still had that book.

Pretty sure he has a whole chapter on sugaring rookies.

Loose Cannon 06-16-2021 09:30 PM

I really liked Dynamites and it was by 2nd favorite behind Pillman's. I hadn't seen the Nick Gage one, but this season has been decent. I have seen enough Warrior documentaries already so that was nothing new. Collision in Korea was really interesting as I have never heard that story before. I couldn't get through Grizzley Smith as it was way too depressing. I had known about all his BS beforehand and i still couldn't get through it. fuck that guy.

Bad News Gertner 06-17-2021 04:07 PM

Just finished the Dynamite one. Great episode.

I had no idea Bret's ex wife and Dynamite's ex were sisters

Also, Jacques Rougeau is a treasure.

Bad News Gertner 06-17-2021 04:09 PM

And Dymanite's daughters are gorgeous

Right ? I never knew that either ! Crazy that I never heard this

And then I was pissed they didn’t bring him in during 97 to side with the Harts since he was technically a brother in law

Bad News Gertner 06-17-2021 05:55 PM

Meltzer is right. Dynamite Kid doesn't get enough credit and because his career ended so long ago he's becoming one of these guys lost to time.

Dynamite Kid is one of those guys who would do something almost every match that would leave you in awe.

The crowd reaction to Tiger Mask vs Kid at MSG 1982 is so great. They initially don't know what to make of it, but come out of their seats at the end. It's the greatest example of that.

ozzman6669 06-17-2021 09:41 PM

Just rewatched Grizzly Smith episode and I noticed one thing, in beyond the mat Jake said that Grizzly was is father AND grandfather and that he was the product of incest but nothing of this was talked about in DSOTR, was it all bullshit or they just didn't want to go there ???

I think he was over simplifying that. In the sense that Grizzly was with his grandmother, although I dont think he was ever married to her, and raped what would have been his step daughter had he been married to the grandmother. The one he raped is who then became his wife.

Oh damn, I didn't understood it this way, thanks for the clarification !

You definitely did and just forgot it.
Bret and Dynamite both mention it in their books.

Bad News Gertner 06-18-2021 01:00 PM

I haven't read either so no I didn't.

Bad News Gertner 06-18-2021 02:08 PM

Podcasts have more or less killed my wrestling book reading.

Jordan 06-18-2021 06:48 PM

You were right about Arn's podcast. Amazing stuff for territory fans. Also I'm loving Jarrett's deep dive on the creation of TNA. Also been enjoying Jr's podcast too, he's got a lot to say about almost everything he has been apart of.

New season starts in a couple days. The line up looks pretty great. Leading off with the Plane Ride From Hell

Damian Rey 2.0 09-14-2021 10:34 PM

Fuck yes

Seanny One Ball 09-16-2021 04:17 PM

The Johnny K9 episode man, I’m telling you it is going to be one of the best ones ever.

I wonder how deep they will go seeing as this was taped while Flair was still employed by WWE. I cant see them passing up burying WWE when they have the chance.

Bad News Gertner 09-16-2021 06:13 PM

There shouldn't be any shortage of guys willing to talk. Jim Ross, Sean Waltman, Justin Credible, Dustin Rhodes have all spoken at length about this. I don't imagine this will be a groundbreaking episode. Kind of a light episode like Brawl 4 All. Kurt Angle would be a very cool get.

Jordan 09-16-2021 09:54 PM

It's a good epsiode. Pretty fucked up and doesn't make anyone especially Flair and Hall look good.
