Ahahaha, you're doing this on purpose now aren't you

Also, Body of Lies - 6/10. Could have been so much better. Leo and Crowe are fine but the film needs...more. Dunno, feels like they were relying too much on people wanting to see the leads and forgot to write a better script. Still perfectly watchable and engaging, just could have been a lot more.

Alice in Wonderland - 4.5/5

No. I really liked Part 3. Liked it better than part 2, but not better than the first. First one is classic.

Loose Cannon 03-15-2010 08:00 PM

Part 3 is a good movie. Soooo much better then 2. But it's one of those nostalgic movies where you either love it or hate it. I love it. I need to get all the Karate Kids on DVD. dunno how I don't have them yet. Cobra Kai 4 Life

Jon Kano 03-15-2010 10:51 PM

Part III was awesome, except the ending, fucking god awful ending/move to finish it.

Did like the character of Mr. Silver though.

Much better than part II.

BigDaddyCool 03-16-2010 01:25 PM

Precious: Based on the Novel by Sapphire: 3 out of 5 stars. Acting and whatever was good. Story was so/so. I don't believe I'm the target audeince for said movie.

DrA 03-16-2010 02:16 PM

I saw the Precious that wasn't based on the novel by Sapphire, so I think I may be missing out.

BigDaddyCool 03-16-2010 02:45 PM

I got the title off of netflix.

Jon Kano 03-17-2010 01:04 AM

Oh, let me guess, it's a bible (bullshit) or religious (ridiculous) film? For fucks sake watch something normal like Die Hard or some shit, jesus fucking christ.
(I am aware of the high possibility that it is a film about neither. However I reserved the right to make that remark at this point in time knowing I may need to refer to it in the future)

Droford 03-18-2010 12:06 AM

Zombieland 9/10

BILL FUCKING MURRAY

Skippord 03-18-2010 04:19 AM

Whatever film BDC is.

Downunder 03-19-2010 02:57 AM

Kano, seriously, for a film student you missed the boat on that one.

Jon Kano 03-19-2010 03:15 AM

I tend to get that from people who like think about what a film student should know or have heard about.

Jeritron 03-19-2010 03:47 AM

Just seems like someone who is moderately interested in film would have heard something about a movie that was nominated for umpteen Academy Awards and a huge hit at film festivals all year

Jeritron 03-19-2010 03:52 AM

I bet Goldust has heard of Precious

Jon Kano 03-19-2010 04:07 AM

I study film, I work in film, I love film. What I take in lately and keep my eye on is not what is always what people at the Academy are.

And yeah I heard of it, like the title, but know nothing about it.

Jeritron 03-19-2010 04:10 AM

The recurring theme of this years nominees was Mech Battles

So am I right to assume the latter picture of from Precious? and she is the big black woman from Beer Festival who won the oscar?

District 9 was awesome I though.

Skippord 03-19-2010 06:19 AM

maybe just google Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire

Droford 03-19-2010 07:35 AM

Law Abiding Citizen 3/10 - terrible concept for a movie AND it was probably the most predictable movie Ive ever seen in my life.

PorkSoda 03-19-2010 07:47 AM

Kano, you work in film, what do you do?

As far as actually being paid for what I do...I make DVD covers, posters, website graphics, logos and anything they want me to. 'They' are a production company I have worked with in the past for free as a runner on set of various productions they operate themselves or for or with other companies. I have been doing the graphic stuff freelance for 2 years. The stuff on set and helping them with their 'film' products I have been doing since 2004.

They have allowed me to kinda be basically part of their staff, I get to do as much as I want, I get a lot of contacts and meet new people in the business every now and then. And I have a contact at the UK Film council who sends me good tips, places and people to try and get myself out there more. When I first worked for them, I met Alan Moore which was awesome. At the time I didn't even know he lived in my town.

I'm all for people's own opinion and shit, but stfu.

CSL 03-19-2010 12:14 PM

It was pretty shit

XL 03-20-2010 02:40 PM

I was kinda hoping Kano was a scriptwriter.

PorkSoda 03-20-2010 02:45 PM

I'm going to New York Film Academy hopefully next year to pursue a career in script writing and directing FYI.

Anyway...

Blade II - 10/10. First one sucked, this one was awesome.

I'm halfway through Enter The Dragon....its decent so far.

I have been writing my own scripts since late 2002, and while I was at uni and working for all these companies. I do my best to 'get my stuff' seen and meet the right people whenever I network with the companies I with with and for.

It's pretty hard not being in London or somewhere we I can get to a decent position, but I couldn't live there anyway.

The woman I know at the UK Film council, I first met her when she saw my stuff and asked me to write scenes for a film they were making with Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead). I gave it a go, but they chose someone elses work and every now and then she gives me other ops like that.

But yinno, I'm happy doing my own stuff, just writing, working for those guys and doing what I'm doing. Sounds bit ghey, but I am just happy to be part of whatever I can get my hands on.

Also....

The Science of Sleep - 7/10

D Mac 03-24-2010 04:48 AM

Inglorious Basterds 9/10

For a sequel to a cult classic, it wasn't that bad. But I think Duffy had some shitty microphones on hand. I was adjusting my volume every few minutes. That or my TV is on the fritz.

I could have done without the Mexican dude, and Julie Benz's character irritated me to no end, but it was still pretty decent.

8/10

Julie Benz is hot, mang.

XL 03-25-2010 06:13 PM

Shutter Island - 8.5/10

A few of my friends weren't impressed by this but I really enjoyed it. The only gripe I had was that the soundtrack was way too entrusive in the opening scenes.

PorkSoda 03-25-2010 09:12 PM

The Crow - 10/10. Fuckin A!

Kickboxer - 7/10.

One of my favorite movie quotes is from Tommy Boy, its when David Spade walks into Chris Farley doing Star Wars to a fan, then says "I've interuppted happy time"

Triple A 03-25-2010 09:35 PM

Little Otik - 9.5/10

Amazing. Watched this after not sleeping for like two days and felt like I dreamt the entire thing or something.

A couple is unable to have a child so they dig up a tree root and fashion it into a surrogate baby and then it starts to murder people. From Jan Svankmajer, love him.

mitch_h 03-25-2010 11:02 PM

What other Svankmajer films would you reccomend, I've seen "Alice" thought it was kinda ehhhh, but I liked the animation and i'm not really an animation fan.

Triple A 03-25-2010 11:14 PM

This was honestly the first feature film I've seen of his that I actually really liked. All of the others I've seen are not that great, yeah.

His best stuff is his short films.

http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/1...er?tab=summary

These are probably my favorite of his:

But her voice in the movie was like nails on a chalkboard constantly to no end. And then they stick her in the cowboy getup shooting people even though she wasn't really there..ugh

Anyway..

So I just watched Michael Moore's Capitalism movie. Its one of those things where half of it I was wanting to punch the tv and the other half I wanted to punch the tv repeatedly and throw it out the window, but I at least showed some restraint for 2 hours. Dont wanna drag politics into here but anyway the only interesting part that I took away from it was companies who take out "Peasant Insurance" on their workers in case they die, since that is something I've never heard mentioned before anywhere.

1/10

I think Blockbuster messed up and sent my Michael Moore's movie instead of Dead Snow which is what I was supposed to get, so at least I have an excuse to bitch and complain to Blockbuster and get a freebie of some sort for being an online customer of theirs for almost 6 years.
