Star Wars Battlefront II (2017)

- All eras confirmed - Space battles at launch - Set classes return - That was a remix of Duel of the Fates and I want it - I didn't think I'd miss the prequel era this much - Totally fangirling here <iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/lQnPUAb7cOo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Mode looks like Battlefield's rush which is fine. "We get to be DROIDS in Star Wars!" lol damn noob. |
During the behind the scenes part one guy mention how it seems like the skillcap for gunplay is higher, and that the guns feel less floaty. Good news. The "baby's first fps" gameplay had as much to do wih the game getting boring quick as the lack of content.
Even if this is more or less a modern revision of the original Battlefront 2, that was/is my favorite Star Wars game. So even if the gunplay didn't deepen, I like that this is looking like Star Wars-travaganza.
Game looks fucking incredible. I never played the first but it sounds like they made an earnest effort to fix all the shortcomings of that title.
Beta is out now for the weekend. After three matches I can say this is the droids we're looking for. Still not as freeform as classic Battlefront but certainly more tactical control than the brain dead last entry.
Yeah, feels WAY better.
A little worried about the progression system <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ne4CnyNW9O4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Why can't progression in all games be awesome like Titanfall 2?
Because money is king.
So it's Overwatch but with Star Wars guys and stuffs.
No.
The outrage about Loot Crates is amazing. I cant wait!
Oh I'm ready.
Played half a match.
Boy is it pretty on PC Uninstalled |
Microtransactions have been removed.
It's temporary, but EA will be tweaking how they're implemented, possibly making them for cosmetic items only. BoB Iger apparently spoke with the CEO of EA before the decision was made. Disney head honchos likely not happy about a product they licensed getting so much negative attention right before the new movie drops. |
The one time a company actually sacrifices money to make people happy is when jackasses could have funded the return of my fave mode from my fave Star Wars game. Unbelievable.
They're not sacrificing shit. It's all coming back, they're just hoping the heat has died down by then.
This will lead to a lot of potential money left on the table in this launch period. Being that their free DLC approach was predicated on kiddies getting those lootboxes, I'm hoping this doesn't interfere with the hinted plans at bringing back the real space battle mode from 2005's BF2.
Honestly it would be great if they added tons of cosmetic customization, expanding on the system in the first game, and lots of skins for the heroes.
That would entice people to buy loot boxes, without enraging others with P2W nonsense. |
I think they are going that direction after all this craziness.
With the stories I've heard from ex Star Wars games devs, every single costume woukd have to be vetted by Disney and it's not a fast process. I doubt you could go massively cosmetic.

In other news, I'm having quite a lot of fun with this.
I'll hop in soon. It's Deadwingz turn to get a game between our boxes.
If Disney dropped the hammer from on high it's very interesting. Seeing EA at the mercy if a much larger beast. |
The space battles are really cool. Makes me wish we could have gotten the simultaneous ground/space battles that were in the prototype Battlefront 3.
Still pissed that tech got burried. Two console generations later the closest we see that realized is an overly hyped space exploration game and a massively promised indy space mmo that might not even work. Much as BF2 improves on the last we may not see anything like that til BF3.
Still pissed Dice didn't consider what Pandemic and Free Radical was testing as a baseline. Probably get some shitty excuse why the Frost engine can't do it, when we seen leaked videos of it ready to run on a fucking PS2. 'Dat 4k tho'. |

At least for the UK and disc-based versions, launch week for this game was roughly 60% lower than the first Battlefront game by EA and DICE.

Or buy the game and that's it?
I laugh at those 'add everything up' memes. |

Win-win |
60$ of coke and a night with two premium hookers that will do everything?? I'd take over this Star Wars money grab
Coke is done eventually.
I like Battlefront 2 and I don't care who knows.
This whole controversy illuminates for me the distinction between gameplay oriented guys and the 'content vs value' guys. Been interesting to watch, especially with the FGC.
Where does story come into play in that argument?
Lol nowhere.
Well the gameplay was pretty dull too. If you want to make generalisations, I think it shows more of a distinction between people who enjoy gameplay and people who enjoy the accurate PEW PEW noise of Star Wars.
BF2 is many steps above BF1 in the gameplay department. It's mechanically reasonable with a sense of skill gap and the dogfighting found a happy medium between the scrubby arcade shit from last time and more rewarding flight control. It accomplishes the 'arcadey FPS' angle that ended up so vapid last time.
Downside is the way reduced freedom of the sandbox compared to 2005 BF2. The big battle modes have these scripted phases that infuriate me as a trend, and again I miss those old space battles with the bording and such. So no I'm not talking about PEW PEW. I'm on point when I'm talking game mechanics especially with FPS and fighters. However you feel about the overal package, this is a better playing game than before. Much better. |
