Was CM Punk the modern day Macho Man Randy Savage

Was CM Punk the modern day Macho Man Randy Savage?

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-09-2018 10:47 AM

He maybe could have been. But dropping that terrible elbow drop (even if it was on purpose as a weird tribute) disqualifies him from the convo.

Also no where near the athlete Savage was.

slik 05-09-2018 11:00 AM

Cena/Hogan
Punk/Savage

seems like a good parallel to me, he may not have been the athlete Savage was but Heyman cut better promos than Miss Liz to offset this

Shisen Kopf 05-09-2018 11:02 AM

No. CM Punk didnt even have an ice cream bar. Macho Man had an ice cream bar and he did Slim Jim commercials. CM Punk is more like a modern day Dennis Stamp

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-09-2018 11:02 AM

Nah. Punk was more like a Bret Hart if anything. Savage was treated like a bigger deal than Punk.

slik 05-09-2018 11:18 AM

IDK...Punk got to feud with all the big names...Brock, Rock, Cena, HHH, Y2J

Not even Braun, the current Macho Man character, has gotten to feud with Rock, Cena, Y2J and HHH

Ruien 05-09-2018 11:25 AM

Randy was Macho of this era.

You mean Rock,.Cena, HHH, and Y2J have not been lucky enough to feud with Braun.

That's also a dumb statement since only 1 of those people are even part time. 1 is Mania time only.

Y2J kind of had a thing with Braun though when Owen's was the champ.

slik 05-09-2018 11:28 AM

Hogan/Cena/Roman -- the 'face' of the company who isn't as popular w/ hardcore fans

Macho Man/Ultimate Warrior/CM Punk/Daniel Bryan/Braun Strowman -- the true most popular person w/ hardcore fans who influences future wrestling styles more and is organically popular

slik 05-09-2018 11:43 AM

Austin/Rock -- the rare MachoHogan combo, true icons of rasslin

Shisen Kopf 05-09-2018 12:15 PM

CM Punk was the HABM of this era

Swiss Ultimate 05-09-2018 01:04 PM

Nobody is Macho Man.

slik 05-09-2018 01:14 PM

Braun Strowman is now Macho Man though Seth might also be

Simple Fan 05-09-2018 01:17 PM

Pretty sure Randy wasn't straight edge.

slik 05-09-2018 01:21 PM

Yeah-Huh

Macho Man means "#2 face in company" in slik-speak

slik 05-09-2018 01:22 PM

Not sure who else #2 face would be of CENATION era if not CM Punk

DBry/Braun/Seth battling it out to be #2 of THE BIG DOG era

Simple Fan 05-09-2018 01:28 PM

Randy Orton is you awnser to who's #2 to Cena.

slik 05-09-2018 01:29 PM

randy isn't popular enough as a face...but he did have that rko 'outta nowhere' meme a few years ago.

The only other option if not Punk is BATISTA the KING of SMACKDOWN!!

RP 05-09-2018 01:30 PM

Roman Reigns is the modern day Andre The Giant

slik 05-09-2018 01:31 PM

Batista was so good...always 'marked' for Big Dave even when the H8rs showed up

Feel sad we never got THE ANIMAL in another WM match b/c of Vince being salty or w/e

slik 05-09-2018 01:32 PM

Wish Batista would show up on RAW this week and give heinous heel Baron Corbin a BATISTA BOMB thru the announce table

Sixx 05-09-2018 01:37 PM

He should come out as Drax the Destroyer and just stab the fuck outta someone.

slik 05-09-2018 01:39 PM

That would be cool w/ me!

Bad News Gertner 05-09-2018 01:44 PM

No because Macho Man was actually good.

slik 05-09-2018 01:45 PM

Wish Macho Man would come back from being dead and wrestle at WM one more time

slik 05-09-2018 01:45 PM

It would be 'cool' IMO

Bad News Gertner 05-09-2018 01:46 PM

Punk was the modern day Leaping Lanny Poffo

slik 05-09-2018 01:51 PM

no that is matt striker

LibSuperstar 05-09-2018 02:59 PM

Not quite, although he was great on the mic and in the ring. Plus he didn't get to headline a WrestleMania. Enjoyed his Savage tribute tho.

xrodmuc316 05-09-2018 03:13 PM

Macho never quit cause he couldn't main event Mania, so nope.

If anything Punk is the Nailz of today. Quit cause he didn't get what he wanted, then holds a grudge forever.

slik 05-09-2018 03:16 PM

I don't think I even mean any of this I was just bored tbh

I was a really big CM Punk fan tho, he was definitely one of my favorites of the last decade who I got 'genuinely excited' to see (like DBry).

...but there can be ONLY ONE Randy Macho Man Savage

slik 05-09-2018 03:17 PM

Macho KING vs Surfer STING ONLY

slik 05-09-2018 03:21 PM

Lex Luger vs PRISON ONLY

Emperor Smeat 05-09-2018 05:57 PM

Going to say no but can't think of an exact reason why.

If Cena is the "Hogan" of this era, then Orton would be the "Macho Man" only because WWE forced it that way. Bryan probably has a better claim to being the modern "Macho Man" mainly because he reached bigger Mania success than Punk, is a bigger fan favorite than Orton, and the better in-ring wrestler out of the three.

Weird way to spell Damien Sandow.

Mr. Nerfect 05-09-2018 07:59 PM

Nah. He always felt like this weird tertiary guy. I'd say he was a modern day babyface equivalent to Ted DiBiase. I don't know. Maybe Jake the Snake?

slik 05-09-2018 09:32 PM

No crowds chant 'jake the snake' like they do 'CM PUNK'

Punk is still one of the most over guys in WWE -- be's probably more popular than all the women and Seth/Roman/Dean!

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-09-2018 09:42 PM

He might have been a modern day Piper.

Simple Fan 05-09-2018 09:49 PM

No CM Punk is probably more like the modern day Bret Hart. Didn't care for either and both a whiny shits.

WinterDecay 05-09-2018 09:58 PM

Agree with STD, Piper would probably be a better analogous Punk.

Hilarious you mention that, all things considered.

A.J.K 05-10-2018 10:30 AM

Speaking of Piper, Ambrose is sort of the Roddy Piper/Brian Pilman of today.

Bad News Gertner 05-10-2018 10:47 AM

Ambrose just does a horrible Pillman impression. He's not 1/10th as good as Piper or Pillman

Fits better!

Stickman 05-10-2018 11:12 AM

I think Seth Rollins is more of a modern day Macho Man. Not quite as macho though.

Gerard 05-10-2018 11:23 AM

Depends if he fucked Stephanie or not. :shifty:

slik 05-10-2018 12:36 PM

Is Chris Jericho the new Adrian Adonis or is Kevin Owens?

Helmsphere 05-10-2018 05:27 PM

Is Miz the Ted Dibiase of this generation?

Damian Rey 2.0 05-10-2018 10:06 PM

I would say Miz is more the new Mr Perfect. The mid card gate keeper who's perpetually over but never really a main event guy.

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-11-2018 12:15 AM

He main evented WrestleMania.

Only once, right? I guess the DiBiase comparison fits.

Sixx 05-11-2018 03:03 AM

I watch his UFC fight from time to time. It's like sex, 2 minutes that make me feel good.

What does CM stand for anyway? CM Punk kinda sounds like Chipmunk when you're drunk.

Probably why he's sober.

Simple Fan 05-11-2018 10:47 AM

CM stands for Chick Magnet.

Sixx 05-11-2018 04:33 PM

Oh, that's so fucking lame.

Chipmunk would be better.

Cum Master Punk

Cock Magnet Punk

RP 05-11-2018 04:37 PM

modern day maharajaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Jordan 05-11-2018 05:13 PM

I've avoided this thread because the whole concept of Punk in that level of legend is angering to me. Beyond the tribute elbow drop and tights, as well as being "hated" by Vince, no there is no comparison.

I was kind of hoping this is the direction Seth Rollins' WWE Title run was going. Seth fucks Stephanie and tries to usurp Hunter completely. So unrealistic to expect Triple H to let someone fuck his wife, even in kayfabe, and to then lie down in order to make a heel. And no one would buy it anyway.

I've really soured on Ambrose over the past two years or so. He went from being my favorite Shield member to easily my least.

Was it the lackadaisical attitude?

Fignuts 05-11-2018 11:46 PM

His rebound clothesline gets slower and sloppier every time I see it.

Black Widow 05-12-2018 12:05 AM

No.

However if there was no ref in his UFC debut then he would have been.

Damian Rey 2.0 05-12-2018 12:46 AM

Ambrose lost a ton of steam. After the split, he lost feuds with Rollins, Wyatt, Lesnar and Styles. "High profile" programs where he came off like a loser. You book a guy to look inadequate and eventually that's what he'll be

Honestly, a little bit. There have been periods where Ambrose has been red hot, and there have been periods where he has been on the edge of being white hot. The general booking of him has never been great. Instead of him being a wily ass-kicker, he's a dumb dog with a glutton for punishment. The beating from Brock didn't help, but Ambrose, himself, seemed to lose spirit from it. He did some underwhelming work for the rest of 2016, and began to resemble The King of Bum Fights.

I don't hate him or anything, and when he comes back I hope he has fire and there is a renewed attitude towards him, but when you go around saying that you're "Vince McMahon's favorite wrestler" you kind of come off like a fool when you don't deliver.
