Just started watching The Shield, really liked the pilot, got the rest of season 1 on the D/L.

Kalyx triaD 04-22-2013 04:25 PM

Isn't it on Netflix?

CSL 04-22-2013 05:23 PM

And yet Big Bang Theory perseveres.

No justice in this world.

Kalyx triaD 04-23-2013 12:00 AM

It had a great run and resurrection and four movie specials. I say it did all it can do.

Lock Jaw 04-23-2013 01:38 AM

Still 13 new episodes over the summer before cancellation, though.

Who knows, maybe Netflix will pick it up. :shifty:

It's a great, great show. I've attempted to get several people to watch it but no-one ever listens to me.

Netflix is going to drop around 1800 videos from their streaming library during May. Several of their licenses with studios and companies expire next month and won't be renewed.

Quote:

According to InstantWatcher, a site that catalogs the comings and goings of Netflix's streaming catalog, the service will be saying farewell to 1,794 different titles in May. That number includes 15 seasons of South Park, old horror movies like Audrey Rose, and James Bond classics like Dr. No and Goldfinger. According to Slate, the drop comes because several licensing deals Netflix has in place with studios like MGM, Warner Bros., and Universal are expiring.

Damn.

ClockShot 05-01-2013 03:23 PM

Getting close to dropping my Netflix service if they can't keep hold of all these licences.

How's Hulu or any of those competitors?

The Jayman 05-01-2013 03:51 PM

Hulu is great for tv shows. Not much of a selection on movies

ClockShot 05-01-2013 04:02 PM

Netflix had the best of both worlds. TV and Movies all under 1 roof.

Hulu got TV but sparse on the movies.

Vudu got the Movies but no TV.

Aren't their any other services around?

Emperor Smeat 05-01-2013 04:25 PM

Amazon is another although not sure how big or small their streaming service is compared to those. After that its mostly the studios or companies themselves providing their own stuff (ex. Warner Bros streaming service, South Park Studios, etc).

14 years later, the sequel for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is in the works. Imagine that.

New Arrested Development says you're keeping netflix for a while.

I got Netflix just for the convenience of browsing instant movies instead of choosing something and waiting for it to download, then copy over to my PS3 etc. Also they have a lot of older movies (especially on the US version) that are hard to find to download on the internet.

Anyways, as for Arrested Development, that'll be splashed over the torrent sites on day 1, so I wouldn't get Netflix for anything more than convenience.

Corporate CockSnogger 05-23-2013 01:58 PM

I got the Netflix free month trial this week for Arrested Development. It might just be the UK version but there's not an awful lot of stuff in the movies section. Seems to be about 4 or 5 recent films for each genre and then the rest is just B movies, with the occasional cult classic in there. Looks alright for tv shows though.

It goes out of sync really quickly for me as we'll if I'm watching anything over 90 minutes or so. Probably just cause its on a netbook so it's not really powerful enough to stream anything longer. Won't be extending it after the trial period anyway.

XL 05-23-2013 02:51 PM

A mate of mine was telling me how he'd managed to change his settings on his UK account so that he could access the US playlists. Should probably ask him how it did that.

Corporate CockSnogger 05-23-2013 03:38 PM

Yeah a mate of mine mentioned the same to me but I can't be bothered getting it anyway really.

CSL 05-23-2013 04:04 PM

if you change your mind, it literally takes 30 seconds, just a case of changing the DNS settings (on consoles anyway) crazy how much more content the Yanks have

Tommy Gunn 05-23-2013 04:04 PM

I had the US version running by paying a few quid a month to Unblock US, so it bumped my total Netflix cost from £5.99 to about £8-9, worth it though for all the extra TV series and crap 80s b-movies.

CSL 05-23-2013 04:08 PM

it's free, you just have to change the DNS settings every now and again

XL 05-23-2013 07:03 PM

If it's that simple I might give it a crack.

And how would one go about this?

CSL 06-11-2013 09:20 PM

if you're on 360, I'm not sure, you'd have to look it up. If you're on PS3, just go to the connection settings, go through the process of setting up your connection again and manually enter the US DNS settings, which you pretty much just have to type "US Netflix DNS settings" into Google to find

CSL 06-11-2013 09:21 PM

in fact there's a vid on YT from a guy that keeps the settings updated/valid
