Anyone else stoked for Death Stranding?

I'm considering purchasing it. What's the overall consensus?

Sepholio 11-07-2019 05:44 PM

It's like infrastructure week magazine the game. It's like freshmen stoner philosophy. What if we're just prisoners of our technology? WHAT IF MAN!? Weve never been more connected but at the same time more distant man. WHAT IF THE INTERNET WAS POWERED BY THE WORLD OF THE DEAD MAN!? It looks like a phone but really its handcuffs and then instead said "what if he's just wearing handcuffs!?" JUST MAKE THE SUBTEXT TEXT. GO THE GAME: THE GAME.

GD 11-07-2019 05:46 PM

Damn...F

Ultra Mantis 11-09-2019 09:51 AM

MGS1-4 were all fantastic but Phantom Pain was a HUGE disappointment to me, so going off recency bias I haven't been too optimistic about this. I'll pick it up eventually, still don't a fucking clue what it is though. Maybe that's the point? I don't know.

The whole aspect of trying to traverse rocky terrain while trying to remain upright seems like the fucking doldrums of open world games.

Destor 11-14-2019 12:31 AM

Game is very good. The internet is stupid.

Ultra Mantis 11-14-2019 03:57 PM

How does it stand up against MGS?

Destor 11-14-2019 10:41 PM

Its like comparing mario to zelda. Sure the same guy made it but its not the same.

If youre a patient person that doesnt mind a game deliberately taking 8 hours to get going in order to establish a base line then id highly recommend the game.

Its unapologetically weird. It marches to the beat of its own drummer. The game does an excellent job of creating a gameplay loop that with each lap adds a new layer to the gameplay so much so that by end game it doesnt resemble those first 8 hours at all.

It takes the open expanse that breath of the wild did so well but it out does it; the players grow throughout the journey. You are rewarded for your time spent.

The ambience is top shelf. Sound and visual design are A+++. Among the best ever of any game from any genre. This engine will be interesting to see as its used more going forward.

And the community aspect (which i wont spoil) is crazy awesome and its the best use of online in a single player game ever

Itll likely tank in the states though. Shame too. Fastest selling new IP this gen in japan at least...but still...

Destor 11-14-2019 10:44 PM

Not for everyone though. It you want fast paced action and you dont want to wait for the game to earn those moments then skip it.

Ultra Mantis 11-14-2019 11:00 PM

Sounds promising, it's on my list of 2019 games which I might eventually get started on in 2020. I am drowning in backlog. You just reminded me that I never started Breath of the Wild too. Damn it

Destor 11-14-2019 11:03 PM

Its a busy time for sure. Star wars drops tomorrow. Gotta finish trials of cold steel before i dive into it tho

Good review. She gets it.

Sepholio 02-08-2020 08:06 PM

I'm actually giving this another shot and....man it's fucking weird. I dunno what I think about it. The world is absolutely stunning and very detailed, I'll give them that for sure. Soundtrack is also very good and fitting. But I really just feel like a UPS guy after the apocalypse. Oh and I work in IT. But beyond that, I dunno wtf is really going on at this point. I keep playing it though just to see what weird ass shit comes out of Kojimas brain around the next corner.

Destor 02-08-2020 08:31 PM

After ch4 the gameplay is more active

Sepholio 02-09-2020 01:07 AM

Yeah I know it's supposed to pick up. I'm in chapter 3 now where the world just opened up a bit more. Also realized that attacking mule camps head on, at least this early on, is WAY easier than trying to sneak through them. Actually about to go steal one of their trucks from just outside Lake Knot now that I think about it.

Sepholio 02-09-2020 01:08 AM

I have a feeling that this is going to end up being one of those games that triggers my completionist complex and I will love and hate myself simultaneously for it.

Destor 02-09-2020 07:26 AM

Getting a truck is usually the right call. Just run people over

Sepholio 02-09-2020 03:19 PM

Yea I went in and stole one. Made the next mission v easy lol. I am being very careful with it though because my first inclination when I stole it was to see if I could repair it at a garage and I learned that no, I can not repair MULE stuff. V lame.

Sepholio 02-11-2020 05:42 PM

Got to chapter 4. That was....different. Now I'm even more confused than I was.

Destor 02-11-2020 11:35 PM

Storywise yeah but action packed

Sepholio 02-12-2020 04:28 AM

Think I'm gonna shirk off my responsibilities for awhile and try to increase my link with a few areas to get better gear before I move on. Found out there have been hidden preppers I have missed too. I thought I'd have deliveries everywhere at some point, didn't realize there were random people around that I have to initiate contact with on my own.

M-A-G 02-17-2020 09:09 AM

I'm just glad Kojima delved into this instead of diving into Silent Hill. He's really better off just doing his own thing.

Destor 02-17-2020 02:25 PM

He says he wants to do a horror game next

Sepholio 02-17-2020 08:36 PM

So uh, still confused about this game. Still don't know if I even like it. Still can't stop playing it. Why is making deliveries so addictive? Fetch quests are the worst trope of open world games and yet somehow Kojima has made my fetching feel important to me. I DONT FUCKING GET IT.

Last night and today, me and my youngest son spent hours rebuilding the entire network of roads in the central region. Just fetching resources, building roads. FOR HOURS. And it was compelling. I've got the entire road system done and the likes are just rolling in from people. Gotten like 250,000 likes in the last 12 hours. My Bridge Link level went from being abysmal and lagging behind all my others to being off the charts. Like level 25 up to 78 now in the span of hours, just from the road.

I now find myself getting 5 star links with everyone. Dunno what these star patches they keep giving me for my uni do, but knowing Kojima they do something. The gear upgrades are choice though. Guess I'll be hunting down the data chips next. Still don't want to go into Edge Knot City. I've progressed it up to the distro center right outside the entrance but am currently just lost being a post apocalyptic mail man.

Side note, Heartman is easily one of my favorite characters ever. I think a compelling game could be made out the sad loop he finds himself stuck in. Or a movie, even. It's just such an interesting story he has going on.

Destor 02-17-2020 08:39 PM

Great VA work too

Sepholio 02-18-2020 01:56 AM

So I'm sure you've noticed that the more you walk/drive over an area, the more it clears out and a path begins to form, eventually widening out out to a nice size dirt path for a vehicle. I wish that those paths eventually became clear enough that auto pavers would show up for more roadways. Really want to build a loop through the mountains. I have a clear route as is and can get a truck to ever outpost, but I want that road.

Sepholio 02-18-2020 07:24 PM

Man wtf the ziplines in this game are hax. I never built any because I assumed they just got you down from places and I always drove. imagine mfw I realize they work both ways and are infinity times faster. Just networked the entire east region with ziplines, every single spot. Got me around to get those 5 star ranks so damn fast.

Destor 02-19-2020 12:36 AM

Who knew getting likes could feel so good
