Probably the bigger piece to the deal is the Bruins free up around $4 million in dead weight cap space because of Savard's injury problems. Career got derailed once he became concussion prone and hasn't played a game since the last time they won the Cup.

Also freed up another $3 million by getting rid of Smith.

6 million for a d man whose best years are behind him and is horrific in his own end. It's another Weiss contract.

I don't think it'll be as bad as Weiss', but $6m is a bit much for an injury-prone player.
