Valverde was awesome for like the first two weeks and I figured maybe Sandy had lucked out. Then he blew that save in Anaheim and that was the end of it.
Mets finally saw enough as they announced Valverde's release the second the game ended. And they've fired the hitting coach. |

The way the o's starters have been pitching, hopefully its motivation for them to pick it up over their next 3 starts. Unfortunately its only realistic that the chopping block consist s of Chen, Gonzalez and Norris since they won't do anything drastic with Tillman or Jiminez. Money is on Gonzalez but Chen has been the one struggling to go 5 innings each start which is taxing the bullpen, but im not ure replacing him with Santana would solve the innings issue. All the minor league reports I've seen say Santana has been pitching well but needs more rehab time just to be sure he's ready.
The one pretty amazing thing is the o's haven't had a starting pitcher get hurt (knock on virtual wood) and Gausman's 1 start on his callup was for extra rest to the rotation. |
Also nice to see the AL East all lose except for the o's and Jays who didn't play.

Watching cubs/mets...thought about Billy Wagner and if there are any left handed closers now. Brian Fuentes was for a while. Only other modern day lefty closer I can think of.
