Better as the Best or the Worst, Vol 1

Welcome to the first installment of “Better as the Best or the Worst.” In this series we’ll look at some of the legends to the jobbers over the years and ask the question- Were they better as a face or a heel?
Some people you just want to cheer for, even if they light kittens on fire and rape your mom. Some people you just want to boo even if they save you from a burning building while curing cancer.
So here’s the question that is on everyone’s minds- Were they better as the best, or the worst.

Mick Foley

He would have never become a major singles champion as a heel, but as a fun loving face who pulled a sock from his pants, or a guy in tye dye, he was fun to cheer for. However as a heel he had more cutting promos that made you believe it was one thousand percent real.

So who was better? Mick Foley as the best, or Mick Foley as the worst?

I love Foley as a good guy.

Foley is absolutely phenomenal at both roles. He can be a sadistic mentally unstable psychopath of a heel and he can also be a quirky fun loving face. I tend to lean a bit more towards face because he's one hell of a comedian and his comedic side comes out much more as a face. Voting both ways though.

This is a really tough one, so considering that he won the title as a face, I'm going to vote face. Also, the 'both' option is completely unnecessary.

Got to go with both.

Mrs Foley's baby boy was good both ways!

Foley is definitely one of the rare guys who can be totally awesome as face and a heel.

However, voting for "both" is not a manly decision. Thus I vote for as a face, because that's where most of the "big" memories lie for me.

What's the point in voting for both? I agree that he was good at both, but is it really that hard to just choose one for sake of a poll? It's not like there's a wrong answer or you'll be affected by it either way.

Also this is a good idea for a thread but the title is kinda ridiculous, tbh. Anyway I voted heel because I think he is amazing as a heel and while he is great as a face, most of his best face moments for me were more-so because of his association with The Rock. Rocky played a big part of that.

I went with heel. His anti hardcore run in ECW and his debut in WWF sold me. I was just a real fan of that dark and sadistic Mankind that lived in the boiler room and had that little mouse as his friend. Ripping his hair out and having that bald spot... it was intense.

voted face because lets be honest most of the good memories of foley where as a face now that's not to say he didn't do fan fucking tastic as a heel because he did but in the end face foley was just that much more entertaining

Foley used to have go, and every time he picked up a mic it was gold. On his best day he could go with just about any of the "best".

This is tricky. A lot of these will be tricky, because you'll find a lot of guys do both so well. I think Foley shone a little better as a face, though. As a heroic entity, he actually managed to help swing the tide of the Monday Night Wars, and participate in some of the highest rated segments of all-time.

As a heel, he can be very, very awesome and scarily intense, don't get me wrong. It's hard to be as beloved as Foley was, though. Few characters in the history of professional wrestling have been as perfectly likeable as Mrs Foley's baby boy. Have a nice day!

As soon as I said that, though, I realise just how awesome the original Mankind character was, and how it was actually almost a commentary on the state of humanity -- and worked so brilliantly as a heel. But to me it always seemed destined to turn face and become a sympathetic and redeeming force.

Mick was probably one of the better heels in the business. He's also probably the most likable face in the business. Still, I think anyone could have been his face role. Heel Mick Foley was just incredible and I would wager impossible to duplicate.

Kudos on a rather tough choice though.

Tough choice..... I liked psycho 1996 heel Mankind better than 1998-1999 some-what psycho face Mankind......

Heel, he was pretty effective. Sure he has a huge run as a babyface but as a heel he was just something else.

I'm going to use this moment to say that I am totally open to renaming this series. Any input more complex than "u suk" would be appreciated (I'll even accept "you suck" because if I'm going to be insulted it may as well be in proper English).

And I'm going to say the heel. Anyone can pull a sock out of their pants and dance, but it takes someone who really knows his craft (the promos in this case) to make me believe it's legit.
