And that suggests a reveal of the console at this year's E3 Expo in Los Angeles. It's important to note at this stage that these are all unconfirmed rumours, but then, they do sound awfully sensible, don't they?

Sounds good but, like someone over at Kotaku said in the comments, it seems a little too soon with the Ds still selling pretty well. We'll find out at E3 if this is true or false, I'm sure. I think I can see Nintendo releasing a new handheld to try and please the "hardcore" fanbase.
Perhaps release the simplistic games on the DS for the "casual" audiance and have this other handheld deal with the more "hardcore" games under another name, maybe bring back the "Gameboy" name.

Thoughts?

Havn't even gotten a DS yet, fuck.

No doubt at least the first model will be DS1 compatible though.

Go get a Lite on the cheap and a Cyclo DS/EZ 3 in 1 set. Good games galore.

I'm interested in this, but I'll probably end up getting one like a year after release, but a month before the announcement of a smaller, better version, just like the DS.

I still prefer the phat to the lite. Glad I picked up one of those bad boys.

I seem to be the only other guy who stuck it out with the phat. I'll grab a Lite only if I can't replace battery once the memory effect sets in.

Besides, you gotta love Nintendo's handheld track record. How long was it after the Game Boy Pocket before the Game Boy Colour came out? How long after the Gameboy Colour before The GBA? How long after the GBA before the GBA SP? How long before the Game Boy Micro? How much time between the Micro and the DS?

The last one is a trick question as the DS came out first, but the average is 2 to 3 years between iterations.

I got a DS phat shortly after it came out. Pretty satisfied with my purchase and haven't thought about "upgrading." I thought of getting the DSi..but then..I have a flash card that can hold music, videos, roms, etc. Then..I have the web browser(which I bought right when it came out and imported and its all on Japanese so I have to wing it.) I remember I upgraded from the GBA to the GBA SP..mostly because the screen light crap. But seriously..for those who don't have a DS yet..get with it..there is a seriously bad ass library of games out there..cheap as hell too.

this is why I'm not upgrading to one of the XLs any time soon. While I'd love a bigger screen with more options, I'm not going to keep buying the new shit that will be obsolete in a year.

Like I love video games and all. But I don't see how someone over the age of 13 can have a DS.
