..:Most Memorable Wrestlemania Match:..
What is one of your most memorable Wrestlemania match and what about it made it so memorable for you.
I'm going with Wrestlemania VI Hogan vs. Ultimate Warrior: No this isn't one of the best matches in Wrestlemania History. But it personally is the most memorable to me. Though actually born only a few days after the first Wrestlemania, this is the first Wrestlemania that I actually remember. Back then that was a huge match. You had two of the biggest stars in the WWF going head to head. Both Hogan and Warrior had a title around their waste. Both were huge Face's. And both had a huge fan base. I remember watching it, back when wrestling was only rumored to be fake. For whatever reason I thought that the winner of the match was determined by the applause of the crowd back then. I was a huge Warrior fan when I was a kid, so I was more then happy when Warrior won. |
Stone Cold vs Shawn Michaels at WM14.
It was memorable for me as it was the first WrestleMania that I viewed from beginning to end. I was only in 3rd grade at the time, so obviously I was really drawn into the characters and believed it was real. Other than that, it's also an important match, and marked the beginning of a new era. The buildup to the event was great as well. |
Hogan vs Rock from Wrestlemania X8
It was near the end of my time as a serious wrestling fan. Despite growing up in the golden age of WWF (late 80's - early 90's), I never went to any live events as a kid. This was my first live event. The crowd was beyond belief. The crowd noise in the video of the match doesn't do it justice. I'll never forget the atmosphere in Skydome during that match. Canada is nWo / Hulkamania country. :y: Gotta wonder what the Rock was thinking of the crowd reaction to Hogan. |
We do this every year

And though it seems odd to call a match that isn't even a year old "memorable", Taker-Michaels had that memorable feel that no match I can ever remember has had. |
Triple Threat Triangle Ladder Match.

Wrestlemania 6. Hogan vs Warrior and Demolition ovation when they won was unreallll

Edge vs Mick Foley at wrestlemania 22
two of my favorite wrestlers in an unbelievably good hardcore match |
I think it's a tie for me.
The first one would be The Rock vs Stone Cold at WrestleMania X-Seven because this was literally the defining match of the Attitude Era. I started watching wrestling in 1997 just before the Attitude Era was kicking off in the WWF. I was a big Bret Hart and HBK mark but Stone Cold was quickly becoming one of my favorites at this time and he would remain one of my favorites for years to come. Meanwhile Rocky was the best thing since sliced bread during Austin's absence. There is something about these two guys that Triple H, Cena, Batista, Orton even guys like Jericho and Angle cannot replicate. The show just has a different feel when they are on it. This feud was perfect, it was cool to see The Rock in full-blown serious mode, Austin doubting himself and the match itself was the best street fight I have ever seen. It was not perfect and a lot of people dislike the overbooked ending, but it still gave us the biggest heel turn since Hogan in 96. I also think this match has greatly influenced what is considered a "good WWE main event match" because of all the false finishes and such that this match made famous. The other one would be Chris Jericho vs Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XIX. I loved HBK because he was a smaller guy and he was just fun as shit to watch. Since HBK left the only guy that really was in the same boat as him in terms of being a good smaller wrestle who ALSO was good at promos and had charisma was Y2J. There were other guys like Christian and Eddie but they were not as big of stars. So seeing this match was a huge dream match for me and pretty much the entire IWC. I think this match went so "crisp." I dunno, this match was a pleasure to watch, great atmosphere, great story and it just went so smooth and felt like they didn't rehearse anything. Just two of my favorites had an incredible match. This is probably the first match I would show to someone who is not a wrestling fan. |

I feel like I missed a lot of Mania greatness for being born in 1988. I never got to see the Hulkamania era and most of the Bret Hart era. Looking back on it, I really enjoyed Hogan vs Warrior at WM 6, Warrior vs Savage at WM 7 and Savage vs Flair at WM 8 but it doesnt have the same affect since I did not watch these live and wasnt a fan during this time.

True, but I think I would have appreciated it more. Mostly because this current era ring-work is held in higher regard than how EPIC a match is.
Still though I am sticking with my two choices. Two of my favorite matches. :D |

Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart Wrestlemania 12.
Simply two of the best in-ring performers and two of the best sports entertainers EVER to step into a professional wrestling ring. It is VERY have that both wrestlers in the main event are the COMPLETE ALL-AROUND PACKAGE! The match was an hour plus long and entertaining the whole entire time, first time out the gate, no blueprint provided and tore the house down. It's easy to perform when there is a blueprint to follow, its a WHOLE ANOTHER level to be the blueprint and do it to such perfection. |
Sid vs. Taker Mania 13.
Shit was so cash. |
Well I have two, one of them is one you might expect and one might be considered terrible.
The first would be Kurt Angle vs. Eddie at WM 20, the ending where Eddie ended up slipping out of his boot during the ankle lock and rolling Angle up for the win will always be a huge moment for me. The other, I dunno why, is Vince vs. Shane at WM 17. I was just into everything about this match, it was so convoluted to begin with, and the ending with Linda being rolled into the ring to watch Shane get beaten horribly but BAH GAWD LINDA STOOD UP! SHE STOOD UP! KICK THE THE GROIN BAH GAWD I CANT BELIEVE IT! COAST TO COAST BY SHANE SHANE BAH GAWD IT'S ALL OVER GOOD GOD IN HEAVEN! is just a real huge Wrestlemania moment as far as my memory is concerned. |

But the one I'd have to go with is The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania X-7. It was my first WrestleMania as a fan, and I remember Austin aligning with Vince McMahon, and just being so shocked. I remember ym dad was away on business at the time, and I actually called him to tell him what had happened, because he had a casual interest in the storylines and such. I also knew a lot of people who stopped watching after this, because Stone Cold stopped being "cool." This was a huge risk the WWE took, and I think it blew up in their face because they didn't really push a top face against Austin. Triple H, The Undertaker, Kane, Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho were all there, but for some reason it just didn't work out. Booker T would have even been an interesting choice. Or DDP. Vince's pride got in the way of that, though. |
I like Piper/Hart from WM VIII

By the way, my choice is probably tied fo my favorite match of alltime

I'm not sure if that was intentional or not, but it's just a little touch to the match I like. Another one is the way that Jericho and HBK hug out of "respect," and then Jericho kicks Michaels between the legs, and he collapses on Jericho in another sort of "hug." At the time, I remember actually being pissed off Jericho didn't win (because HBK was still rumoured to not be a full-time guy), but this was a perfect way for Jericho to a) get heat back, and b) add that symmetry between the respect hug, and the accidental "oh shit, my testicles" hug. |

Noid -- I agree.
Kinda like Hogan (yellow) vs Savage (orange) at WM 5? Or even Hogan (yellow) vs Warrior (orange) at WM 6 :D |

I was watching that match on Vintage Collection the other week and it just brought back so many memories. I remember being so pissed when they made Bret come back and wrestle. |
Honorable mentions to:
Bret Hart vs Owen Hart (WrestleMania 10) Macho Man vs Ultimate Warrior "Career Threatening Match" (WrestleMania 7) |

Something like that could really help Edge and Jericho stand out in their WrestleMania match this year. Put Chris Jericho in black and blue trunks, and give Edge some red and white pants. |
Taker vs. Edge at WM24 is one of my favorites... very underrated match I think.
|
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Bret Hart (wrestlemania 13).

Undertaker vs Kane WM 14
The whole story surrounding this match was epic. When Bearer first announced "Kane is alive" it set off a chain reaction. Everytime Taker cut a promo, Bearer would interrupt with a message from Kane. Kane debuts, then Taker refuses to fight him. The casket match at the Royal Rumble setting it on fire. Taker in the end fighting his brother and defeating him at WM 14. It was an awesome well built story and feud. The match itself at Mania was great. |
