The best thing about NXT

Michael Cole + Josh Matthews = Awesome

I never really thought that Josh would ever land a big time commentator gig, but after these last two months on NXT, I could definitly see him doing SD! or RAW sometime down the line.

Also the cemistry between the two is the best any pair of commentators have had in a long time in my opinion, probably since Ross/King in the attitude era. Their banter is beyond funny for marks and smarks alike. This is probably also the best thing Michael Cole has ever done. Who would have thought that a heel Michael Cole would work?

Discuss.

I also love how Cole switches roles between RAW and NXT, two completely different comentators. And actually, both of those are different from his comentary of SD! in the early 2000's. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm pretty impressed with his work.

yea nxt cole is light years beyond raw cole, he actually seems he has talent

Xero 04-08-2010 10:21 AM

I really wish Cole would play the asshole heel on RAW too. He's actually entertaining on NXT and it just proves he's terrible as a face but does have something.

Good to see NXT is proving useful for the 'nxt' generation of commentators aswell as wrestlers.

If they have another NXT they should have 4 new commentators who cycle in and out on every segment for a commentating spot. The banter from Cole would be worth it alone.

I agree but even currently it'd be better.

Jericho is the best commentator on NXT when you hear him yelling into the announcers' headsets.

Jeritron 04-08-2010 05:02 PM

Jericho is the best thing about any WWE programming

Jeritron 04-08-2010 05:03 PM

NXT was better than Impact this week because Wade Barrett came out to Jericho's titantron

I'm an internet fan and I can assure you that the exchange between Josh Mathews and Michael Cole was very real. Cole lives in the WWE bubble

While we're on the subject of commentators - is Striker dumbing down his style? It seems like during a big spot he now yells "OHHHHHHHHHHHHH" and I don't remember him doing that before. He also seems to talk faster at certain points than he did before. He still completes his Striker-sentences, but he just says them unnaturally fast as a spot is occurring. Probably to seem more exciting to the WWE Universe.

If the best thing about NXT that you can come up with is Micheal Cole and Josh Matthews then either you need to stop watching or they need to quit doing NXT.

The reason Cole is such a great heel on NXT is BECAUSE of his RAW commentary. It actually shows continuity, since Cole "lives in the WWE bubble", so naturally he would enjoy RAW and act like an overzealous idiot with King. As such, he looks down on the independents, and that's what causes his "I don't really care about Daniel Bryan" behavior on NXT.

Don't give Cole that much credit.

Krimzon7 04-08-2010 11:40 PM

that's an awfully smarky and in depth role for Michael Cole...I can't give him credit for creating that many layers on purpose

No, I seem to remember Striker doing that for a while. He may be dumbing down -- others have noticed that -- but I think his "OHHHH!" is just a way of genuinely putting over the spot. I hope he never changes his announcing style, though. One thing that has changed about him, and I hate this -- he has switched from being pro-CM Punk to anti-CM Punk. Why?

I'm glad Josh Mathews is getting work, also. I found it funny how he got to appear at WrestleMania XXVI and yet Todd Grisham did not. If Jerry Lawler quit his job tomorrow, I'd have no problem with Josh Mathews becoming the new color guy on RAW. That would be an interesting full-time arrangement.

XCaliber 04-09-2010 11:35 AM

Matthews has always been decent on the mic it's almost too bad he was never hired as a wrestler as I think they could have done something with him and one of his former Tough Enough competitors like The Miz.

He was upset about what Punk did to Mysterio's family or something stupid
