Looks like win for now. Castlevania's had two good 3D games, but they all tried to capture the Metroid-revision of Symphony (something the Nintendo portables had more success with). Making an action game may be the best route to take. |
I've been keeping an eye on this since E3 last year. It looks like it could be a lot of fun. I like the look of the giant bosses.

That's an interesting take on the Castlevania game style. Wonder how they're gonna incororate Dracula in this one. Looks very God of War style in the fighting sequences. Hope it comes to the Wii.

Hope they bring back some of the old music like Bloody Tears. Castlevania's music is some of the best in videogame history.

I remember watching this at E3 online here. I was all psyched about it until they showed the cross-whip weapon thingy and I immediately thought of God of War.
I had a blast playing Curse of Darkness. Lots of weapons to work with if you find the right stuff. Hopefully with Lords of Shadow, it kinda goes the same route. |
You realize whips are the favored weapon of the Belmont clan?

Symphony of the Night is one of the most bad ass games of all time. I was thinking of getting it on 360's arcade. I may just do that in preparation for this game.

Probably makes more sense to get an action game in preparation. But if you're going for mood, rock it. I've been away from the Castlevania universe far too long, myself.

In another thread I mentioned how this game seems to have elements of what I valued and what Req valued. Lords of Shadow looks to be a game with a sense of style and mood I can dig, while looking to have the visceral nature of GoW. Big bosses and hack'n'slash aren't GoW exclusive, btw. DMC, Bayonetta, and Ninja Gaiden (and many other games) had those two traits.

The games due out in a week or two. Preordered it a few days ago.

Just found out yesterday that they are also releasing a Limited Edition that contains the game (on 2 discs for the 360), an artbook and a soundtrack CD.
Just 17 days from release and still no news of it coming to the UK, though. :( |
It's not looking that great to me, but I'll give Kojima/Patrick Stewart a chance.

I've heard it plays like God of War. Never played GoW so I'm not sure if that's good or not. Some random magazine gave the game 83% and the official OXM magazine site hinted that we'd be surprised at the review if we were let down by some other Castlevania game.
More info on the LE. The US gets the game, art book and OST. UK gets fancy packaging, the game, OST and a replica God Mask. It's up on PSN+ but not on the 360 yet. I've not got a PS3 so I can't demo it but most places are giving it good reviews (9/10, 90%+ etc).

The demo is up on the 360.
I just gave it a go just now and ther is a problem with text. Subtitles are readable on a wide screen SD tv but the menu is done in the style of an old fashioned book, like a bible or something. The right is pretty difficult to read from time to time in the menu because of this, which isn't very helpful when you need to go to the menu to see how to do certain things. |
Took this for a spin a little while ago. Camera is really fucky, a patch would help in a big way. It kinda works when it wants to.
Other than that, I'm enjoying the game thus far. |
Demo wasn't too bad, will probably end up getting it eventually.

I'll probably get it used later on. So much on my plate right now with Rock Band 3, Fallout New Vegas, Black Ops and Smackdown v Raw.

Brother brought this over today. Plays a lot like God of War, but a tad bit more clunky at times. The lore is great, and the graphics are pretty amazing. Probably wouldn't have went out of my way to get a hold of this, but now that it has been practically given to me, I have to say I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

I don't generally get into these action/adventure games. More often than not, even with a great story, they feel too linear. I tend to want to play something that is a little more open ended, or has great multiplayer. I would definitely play a demo of this before I made any decision to buy it.

Great graphics and overall presentation, but after playing the demo I'm not impressed - just another God of War clone.
If I get it, I'll pick it up used...I'm not paying over $20 for the same old thing in a different skin. |
Konami must be very happy with sales and reception from reviews and gamers since they announced a sequel is being made for this game.
Nothing was really announced about the sequel but it will continue off where Lords of Shadow ended or at least become its own series within the Castlevania storyline. http://kotaku.com/5661014/castlevani...l-in-the-works |
