Is Jack Swagger being built as the next Mr. Perfect?

If not, could it work with him? It seems that his recent promos are portraying him as a man who excels at anything and everything. I hope to see a few vignettes with him catching his own football pass and making a half-court shot.

So, to reiterate, is Swagger the closest thing we've seen to Mr. Perfect? Is he the right guy for the job? If not, then who?

Discuss.

Schlomey 05-08-2010 11:29 AM

I really thought that Ziggler was more Perfect-esque than Swagger. Swagger has said in recent interviews that there is not much to his character and that is is simply based on being a champion. So I respectfully say no, I do not see the correlation.

to expand:

Swagger has been a favorite of mine since the beginning. I, for one, LOVE his position in the company.

And yes, I love me some Ziggler. Hated him at first obviously, but recently his use of the sleeper and his act of snapping has really turned me on to him.

The Pope 05-08-2010 11:49 AM

Ziggler reminds me of Mr.Perfect just by his look alone. Imagine him with the "Perfect" gimmick and I'll be happy

BillyBonez 05-08-2010 11:53 AM

Ezekiel Jackson should get a Mr. Perfect gimmick. Only instead of catching his own football, he stomps it into the ground. Instead of hitting a shot from the middle of the court, he rips off the net and smashes the board.

Schlomey 05-08-2010 11:55 AM

my god.

Ultra Mantis 05-08-2010 11:58 AM

Swagger was made out to be a clumsy dick at the end of last year and early this year by losing an over the top rope challenge to Santino, jobbing to Bourne during an undefeated streak angle, screwing up the cash in on Cena, and (even though it wasnt intentionally booked that way) taking forever to unhook the briefcase. It would be a massive u-turn in character for him to be the next Mr. Perfect, but then again this is WWE and logic doesn't apply in the long term so they could go that route.

I do agree that Ziggler fits the bill a lot better for that sort of gimmick, he's been gold recently and should have been the guy to take the vacant IC title.

tjmidnight420 05-08-2010 12:16 PM

I don't know about the next Mr. Perfect, but I'm liking how he's being booked right now.

DaveWadding 05-08-2010 12:45 PM

Shwagger'sh shpeecsh patternsh are not PERFECT.

Stickman 05-08-2010 12:54 PM

No. Mr. Perfect was Absolutely Perfect.

thedamndest 05-08-2010 01:33 PM

I'd say he's more like Kurt Angle who didn't go to the Olympics.

Ziggler is more like Waylon Mercy.

This... But Swagger's vignettes had me laughing by the end of the show... I hated him getting the belt from Jericho so quickly at first, but I have warmed up to it...

:y: This.... only I would add "a more-accomplished Kurt Angle, other than the whole Olympic Gold Medal bit"

Dirk Ziggler 05-08-2010 03:17 PM

That's exactly what I was thinking when watching Smackdown last night. I think that it could work for him and it'd be a perfect role for him, no pun intended.

I am so glad, that you are not a booker.

Perfect was perfect. It wasn't a gimmick.

Maybe Curt Hennig's ghost should give Ezekial Jackson the Mr. Perfect gimmick by having a one night stand with Jackson.

Wishbone 05-08-2010 07:17 PM

like thedamndest said he's more of a Kurt Angle type and I personally am loving his current character

DAMN iNATOR 05-08-2010 07:28 PM

As others have already said, Dolph Ziggler really fits the bill better at this point in time. He's set up pretty well for it too with his looks and theme ("I am Perfection").

Mr. Nerfect 05-09-2010 04:17 AM

I see the similarities (obviously), but I don't think Swagger needs to move into more of a "Mr. Perfect" character. His current one is getting so much heat as it is. I like the way he has a massive chip on his shoulder, and is always looking to prove himself. I love the way he has that "look" in his eyes since he won the title. I also love the way he delivers certain promos as almost an speech.

Swagger is doing well for himself right now, and he is so easy to hate because he's just...a winner. There's no other way to look at it. I'd have him continue to overcome challenges. Put him over Big Show at Over the Limit. Let him walk out of Fatal Four Way still the World Heavyweight Champion. Then it's Money in the Bank, where the MITB will be the star attraction, so he can work lower on the card and go over pretty decisively against someone. Then you've got SummerSlam, where you can put him against Christian or something, and have him drop the title there. The fans will go ape-shit for it when someone dethrones Swagger.

There is a lot of Kurt Angle in there -- because I can almost imagine that moment after Swagger realises he is not World Heavyweight Champion anymore. People will want to see that.

As for Dolph Ziggler -- there are also comparisons there, but I like Ziggler's "nutcase" side. Waylon Mercy was mentioned. I think a feud between Ziggler and Big Show would really make Ziggler -- especially if he put Show to sleep.

Vince Russo did the unthinkable when he won a Steel Cage Match to become the new WCW World Champion. Apparently realizing he was in over his head, Russo surrendered the championship shortly thereafter.

You guys are overlooking one key ingredient in the Mr. Perfect gimmick. The guy was perfect in the ring. He could RASSLE with the best of them.

Nobody's saying Swagger will ever come close to replacing him. Only comparing similar gimmicks. He will never touch Perfect in the ring...literally and metaphorically

and he could cut a promo without coating the mic and camera like a turkey baster?

BollywoodSingh 05-09-2010 10:31 PM

Jack Swagger needs to work on his promos. I find them so boring. He talks so slow and there are so many pauses. There's no energy in his promos at all.

DLVH84 05-09-2010 11:35 PM

No one could duplicate Curt Hennig's perfection.

I think that's his gimmick. Like how Jillian Hall is meant to be a bad singer. Swagger calls his promos "addresses" and they are meant to sound less like he is talking honestly and more like he is giving a high school speech about how great he is. When he actually cuts a proper promo, they are absolutely fine. His promo about going after the head of "The Viper" and being "the antidote" to Randy Orton's venom during their feud was one of the best promos I can remember in recent memory.
