the great comic book clash, issue 4: does my head look big in this?

the ridiculously overpowered hell general spawn cleaned ghost rider's presumably flaming clock last time round in what wound up being a relatively close matchup (15-10). after an extremely strong early lead from spawn, blaze made a bit of a comeback but it was not quite enough to topple the sheer power of motherfucking empathy.

if you thought things were creepy before, prepare to have your previous thoughts shattered into thousands of tiny pieces because we are stepping up the creepiness up in hurrrr.

round 4: MODOK (mental organism designed only for killing, aka. george tarleton; marvel) vs hector hammond (dc)

http://kirbymuseum.org/blogs/kirby-v...9/08/modok.jpg vs http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/3...ond1_super.png

powers and abilities breakdown

hector hammond

Come on, when are we getting the Reed Richards v Plastic Man?

mitchables 05-11-2010 10:05 AM

it's coming. do you know how many of these there are potentially? i don't want to use all the big names immediately. i promise a-listers in the next issue.

mitchables 05-11-2010 10:07 AM

anyway, the two characters for me really don't evoke any particularly sentimental emotion either way, so this is going to come down to the idea of them locked in a hypothetical battle - and the idea of that fascinates me. what the fuck would happen? would anything happen? would it all be in their heads, so to speak? would they just sit there seemingly staring at each other while a battle of epic proportions is waged inside their brains? telepaths and telekinetics are all sorts of fun to debate.

BigDaddyCool 05-11-2010 10:09 AM

Plastic man isn't an A-lister.

Who is Flash going up against? Quicksilver? Flash will win that one.

BigDaddyCool 05-11-2010 10:13 AM

Are we going to have generic Rob Liefeld v generic Rob Liefeld?

Reavant 05-11-2010 11:18 AM

dude i kinda like where mitchables head is at (no pun intended here) with putting non big names in the competition here especially with this one because this is a very interesting match up seeing as how would they battle?

BigDaddyCool 05-11-2010 11:25 AM

No, I get it. I just don't know who these fellows are. MODOK seems familiar...but yeah.

LuigiD 05-11-2010 11:28 AM

I have to hand it to MODOK. The ability to calculate probabilities is a huge advantage. The Mind Control for Hammond is great too but I am sure MODOK could figure that out. They seem evenly matched at the other levels.

mitchables 05-11-2010 11:30 AM

really though, if hammond has a genius-level intellect, one would assume he probably has a pretty good handle on probability himself.

BigDaddyCool 05-11-2010 11:31 AM

it is probably, but so is me shitting a rainbow. I've eaten a lot of skittles.

Reavant 05-11-2010 11:47 AM

lol

Fignuts 05-11-2010 12:27 PM

Yeah, mitch is right about hammond being able to counter modok's probabilty thing.

That said, I gotta give it to modok, as he has A.I.M. at his disposal, and hammond doesn't have any minions, to my knowledge. I only saw him in that latest GL appearance though, so I could be wrong.

Pic of Hammond from the upcoming Green Lantern movie:

I'd have to give it to Hammond anyways. MODOK seems like a whipping boy.

The Destroyer 05-11-2010 01:44 PM

I'd be inclined to give MODOK the edge due to the AIM factor - access to lots of disposable goons and advanced technology.

KIRA 05-11-2010 02:19 PM

Giving it to Modok for being designed for the express purpose of killing as opposed to going nuts and becoming a killer and for the fact he gave me nightmares as a child

Kane Knight 05-11-2010 03:26 PM

MODOK since I have no clue who the other one is.

parkmania 05-11-2010 05:18 PM

TIMMAY!!!!

Downunder 05-11-2010 06:23 PM

MODOK, but I have no clue who either of them are.

ClockShot 05-11-2010 06:28 PM

Did Brainiac have something better to do?

I'll give the nod to MODOK. Even if he was a stooge to the Mandarin in the Iron Man cartoon. And reminds me of Krang from T.M.N.T.

thedamndest 05-11-2010 08:28 PM

What is MODOK's deal? Is he just a giant head in there or can he get out to poop?

Lock Jaw 05-11-2010 09:36 PM

Sounds like a question for Deadpool to go find out.

brainiac is another whole level on these two. if i'd put brainiac against someone like modok, it would have been issue 0 all over again.

also this was mentioned in the other thread but i'm addressing it here: no, the poll options, if i can help it, will never simply be the two peoples' names. that's fucking boring, and their names get restated like 32598759823 times throughout a thread. the things in the poll are not so obscure that you can't figure it out.

hammond was among the villains busted out of prison during the infinite crisis: villains united special, so he obviously had some level of clout with the society, which possesses both goons and advanced technology. plus, hammond has mind control, so where MODOK needs fear to breed loyalty, hammond could just look at you and suddenly you'd happily throw down your life for him.

Skippord 05-11-2010 09:56 PM

MODOK

I like his name and I don't know who the other guy is

so I chose marvel over dc

sigh, apparently they are going with a fusion of his three different origins (he is the post-mortem examiner of abin sur and finds a piece of legion stuck in him which gives him his powers)... which is kind of bizarre, since legion was retconned out only like a couple of years ago.

Rammsteinmad 05-12-2010 04:02 AM

MODOK FTW!

Reavant 05-12-2010 10:17 AM

what hero comic is modok in?

LuigiD 05-12-2010 10:56 AM

I mostly know MODOK from Iron Man. I have seen him in other titles tho. Captain America and Hulk come to mind.

Reavant 05-12-2010 11:10 AM

oh... for some reason i envisioned him against the xmen but i didnt know why
