Moves that wrestlers shouldn't kick out of

I'm thinking that any move where a wrestler is dropped on his head should be a match finisher. In general I think that the indie-style of wrestling (using a shitload of flashy high impact/high risk moves) is stupid as well as dangerous.

Here's my "no kickout" list:
All Piledrivers
Any DDT where the wrestler flips onto his back after impact
Diamond Dust
Brainbusters
Burning Hammer (reverse death valley driver)

I also think that German suplexes should be sold the shit out of.

Having these moves be match finishers would promote a lot more counters, better grappling as well as cut down the rate of injuries.

I also had a liking for the running powerbomb and the running powerslam. High impact (or seemingly so) moves deserve to be finishers.

This does not include the spear and the right fist.

I agree with the piledriver. ROH has a bad habit of wrestlers kicking out of top rope piledrivers. I hate that. I saw Eddie Edwards vs Davey Richards and there was a kick out from a top rope german. I like ROH but that's just silly.

ECW had a lot of wrestler who kept kicking out mainly because the crowd appreciated it. They knew it was done safely, and the wrestler could kick out, and so wanted more. In a way, ECW and Japan Pro has caused a lot of this "sustainability" among current wrestlers.

Wrestlers are all about the spots today, and it's sad.

Imagine what it would be like if Jake Roberts had his head on straight and was training guys now...

Probably not much different, honestly... :-\

Swiss Ultimate 05-16-2010 11:22 AM

Jake clean would be awesome.

"Back in my day, the biggest spot we got were hip tosses and we liked it!"

I agree and I also liked when a powerbomb meant something. I hate how finishers now are so lame even though earlier in the match there may have been many high impact moves. For instance, the Angle Slam is no worse than a body slam but nobody can kick out from that? C'mon now

Yea, I did aways notice that about the Original ECW. I remember Pitbull #2 had a good/ bad habbit of getting hit with a Superplex or a huge powerbomb and getting up like nothing happened... then he would get pinned by something small

I agree with the German suplex quote... And the Angle slam one... Guys can kick out of a triple German suplex ala Angle/Benoit, but watch out for that deadly Angle slam...

Just so it's clear, in the Orton video I am referring to both the RKO and the Punt Kick.

DAMNiNATOR, if it were anybody else I'd assume they were joking about the People's Elbow but I am under the impression that you're being serious.

MoFo 05-16-2010 05:10 PM

Canadian Destroyer should NEVER be kicked out of.

I always marked out for that Black Hole Slam that Big Boss Man used to do as well.

The streak should have ended right there...

From that view, Taker should have been able to grab hold of the bottom ropes. Don't remember if Flair covered him immediately though.

The streak should have ended right there...

I watched Mania 18 on tape two days after the event, already knowing what happened, and I still marked out for the AA spinebuster.

With that being said, yes, moves like powerbombs, high elevation superplexes, german suplexes, etc., should be finishers. I mean, they sell a german like it's deadly to begin with. How in the hell, realistically, would you kick out of a top rope german?

Also feel like the chokeslam should be added to the list. That's def. a high impact move.

Nark Order 05-16-2010 11:19 PM

Well realistically you probably wouldn't kick out of a punch to the face or a kick to the gut but this is professional wrestling here.
