Do you really hate John Cena?

Or do just hate how he's used?

I honestly just hate how he's pushed. To help you decide I'm posting the following cheesey tribute video compiled of moments from Wrestlemania 23 where Cena and Michaels had a pretty great match.

<object style="height: 344px; width: 425px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CV9piFOUOwo"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CV9piFOUOwo" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></object>

Worst soundtrack ever?

<font color=goldenrod>Without question, it's just the way he's used. He genuinely cares about the product and seems like an awesome guy to hang out with. When he does "fired up" promos he's gold, and he's been involved in some really good matches.

My only annoyance with him is the way he's booked. And I understand why it's done, and I can't fault WWE for doing it, because he's the face of the company and draws the money. But personally, it annoys me.</font>

St. Jimmy 05-20-2010 05:51 PM

I wholesale dislike him.

Favre4Ever 05-20-2010 05:51 PM

I hated how he is used. However, it has gone on so long that I have gradually come to hate him personally. He has even stated on multiple occasions that "What you see is what you get" and that his in-ring persona is "not much different than how he acts in real life".

If that's really the case, I think I hate him on an entirely different level.

Chavo Classic 05-20-2010 06:00 PM

I liked when he broke through with his heel white-rapper persona. Otherwise, I like him as much as any man could like a cancerous growth of his favourite testicle.

RiX1024 05-20-2010 06:05 PM

I liked him when he was that heel Thug Life gimmick, until he turned face i resented the guy.

Gerard 05-20-2010 06:08 PM

Boring as fuck, he went from having a moderately entertaining gimmick to stereotypical "all american babyface crowd arselicker". His promos really get on my nerves, starts off talking ends up shouting..every..single..fucking..time.

CSL 05-20-2010 06:18 PM

John Cena is the man. I mean, I wish he'd work on his basics a bit, tighten up some of his offence. But the man.

Yeah. That guy that used to say 'Finally' at the beginning and 'If Ya Smelllllll....' at the end of every..single...one of his promos used to really wind me up because he did the same thing all the time.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-20-2010 06:21 PM

I really don't even hate how he's used. He's marketed as the ultimate good guy superhero for kids to look up to. It's not my thing, but I know it's not supposed to be.

The Franchise 05-20-2010 06:31 PM

Definitely the way he is used. Cena is talented and has had plenty of good matches since becoming super man. His match against Umaga at RR 2007 and agianst HBK on RAW in England were two 2007 MOTYC. His feud with Edge in 2006 was great and I really enjoyed his work leading into Mania 24. There's other good stuff in there as well but there's been some really long, boring periods mixed in there, especially his first title reign that has left a sour taste in most people's mouths when it comes to Cena.

His promos are far below his capacity (going by what we saw in 2003) and that is what bugs me. I'm hoping his eventual heel turn will allow him to really "let loose" on the mic.

More of a pair of catchphrases than some idiot going red faced stomping about the place screeching into a mic. The rock had a style for his promos which was entertaining and invited crowd participation, hardly the case with cena.

Nicky Fives 05-20-2010 06:39 PM

I'm sure he's a nice person in real life, but every time he is on my television or computer screen, I die a little inside.... I imagine most of it is due how he is being booked/used, but some of it is his sub-par ring performances (IMO) and crappy promo-cutting (I'M JOHN CENA AND MUST YELL DURING MY PROMOS!!!!)

So you're saying you need catchphrases and crowd participation for a promo to be good?

The Franchise 05-20-2010 06:48 PM

IMA DO LIKE YALL DO IN SAINT LOO, DA CHAMP IS HURR

KIRA 05-20-2010 06:49 PM

Hate how hes presented but but hes geared toward kids so its fine.

John Cena the man actually seems like an awesome person though, plus he says what we see on TV is closer to how he is in life which I'm inclined to believe and its harder to hate the guy honestly after seeing him posing with fans who hate his guts. Those shirts though those have to go those are just weak.

DAMN iNATOR 05-20-2010 07:31 PM

Can't stand anything about Cena.

Bingo. I think John Cena has a ton of talent, and has done some great things. He seems like a great dude, and he's obviously a workhorse for that company.
I've enjoyed some of what he's done, and disliked some of what he's done.
I can seperate my gripes with booking from my gripes with talent.
I too think he has a ton of untapped potential, and if WWE wants to let it happen his best work could be ahead of him.

My exact thought Big Vito... I just have trouble with the 5 move wrestlers... But his passion, drive, love for the business are second to none and he's pretty bad ass on the mic... But yeah, I hate the character... But I have always hated faces...

I love how that assumption got pulled out of nothing.

Some wrestlers make it part of a promo and it suits their style well, others don't but are still able to do a good promo. If anything the catchphrases just open up more opportunies for merchandising if they catch on.

DLVH84 05-20-2010 08:06 PM

YES!!! HE SUCKS!!! HE STOLE CHONO'S MOVE!!!

CSL 05-20-2010 08:07 PM

It was a question, not an assumption.

Meh. :shifty:

DrCrawford 05-20-2010 09:10 PM

he's awesome, but his gimmick sucks. he's great on the mic, and has the look. its a shame he has to be a superhero gangster.

RGWhat316 05-20-2010 09:19 PM

Mainly just the way he is on tv. He genuinely seems to have a passion about the business and isnt just there to collect a paycheck. He also seems like he would be a cool guy to hang out with outside of WWE, but in the ring, I cant stand him one bit. The Superman is just old and stale.

TheAdamEvansFan 05-20-2010 10:08 PM

I hate how he's used.

But it's business and it's wise.

What I'd like to see is that for him to change back to his old chaingang rappin self like overnight, with no explanation, like he just got out of a time machine...

That'd be hilarious and vintage.. Like multi personalities.. I'd love it! It'd be like Mick Foley!

Call me crazy, call me delusional, call me a real fan.

Stickman 05-20-2010 10:20 PM

He seems like he'd be a cool guy but the whole marine and thug thing with a very bland moveset just bores me to tears.

BigCrippyZ 05-20-2010 11:19 PM

I just hate the whole "Superman" gimmick. It's so childish and silly that I have a hard time believing that I would've enjoyed it as a kid, although I was always pretty mature and logical even when I was young. I think he's actually not terrible on the mic and there have definitely been worse workers on the roster throughout the years. I just hate the whole "I'm always going to do my best, never quit, so I'll never really loose..." bullshit promos where he slowly looses the ability to control the volume of his voice.

XCaliber 05-20-2010 11:35 PM

Moreso the way he is used but ever since he's turned face his promos are highly lacking as well as ability to dish out a vast array of moves he just to meh right now.

Emperor Smeat 05-20-2010 11:43 PM

Hate how he's being over-pushed which has lead to him not even bothering to improve anything that is currently wrong with him in terms of wrestling ability and promos.

He can do great promos based on the recent Batista feud and his past with the rap character but ever since his "superman" push and move to PG, he rarely shows any emotion or improvement in his promo skills. Same for his wrestling skills (especially with submissions) since even HBK got upset with his lack of selling ability during Wrestlemania 23.

The Pope 05-21-2010 12:10 AM

I'm pretty sure I hate him

YoungFlyFlashy 05-21-2010 12:11 AM

I do not hate him. This is a business, and I understand the business decisions and choices they are making to continue putting asses in the seats and keeping the merchandise out of the warehouse.

Tyler Killer 05-21-2010 12:54 AM

I hate all you fucking smarks talking about wrestling being a "business." You fuckers have no clue what goes on behind closed doors, so stop acting like you know.

You know you just fucked up right?

Kane Knight 05-21-2010 01:06 AM

Cena seems (and that's the operating word) like a genuinely decent individual. He's a workhorse and fine with being the face of WWE. He even seems to take criticism in stride.

Cena's character is blah. There have been a couple points where I'd probably say I hated his character, but right now it's just....Well, among other things, it's almost not there. He's kind of...Generic babyface plus a couple catchphrases.

I think he could be aces, heel or face. He's a solid wrestler, got charisma, got "the look," and so on. But right now, the character's just kind of some template deal. And I doubt even that's his fault.

i think the main reason Cena gets so much heat from the IWC is that he's the poster child for everything that's "wrong" in wrestling. He's PG. He's a perpetual face (Because turning someone heel always fixes things. Always). He's spent a decent amount of time sucking up to the fans (And anyone who doesn't treat you like shit is bad). He's wrestled a progressively safer style. Even his move names have dropped the attitude (except the FU, which got an Attitude Adjustment).

You think I give a shit what these "people" think? I'm kind of like Vince McMahon; I don't give a shit about who these people are, what the hell they think, and what the hell they want. The only difference is, I don't make money off the dumb pricks.

You should be ashamed of yourself for stepping down and sucking the Smarks balls.
