Speaking of N3
...I wasn't a huge fan of Ninety Nine Nights (N3), but it seemed like it had promise. it was graphically sound, but the long levels with no checkpoints, broken bosses, and inane characters were kind of...Terrible.
So I was hoping the next one would be a marked improvement. Still not sure if it will be, but I'm kind of less hopeful right now. I'm wary of any game that lists leaderboards as an "improvement." I could use me a good hack and slash, but I'm not sure this'll be it. Anyway, I think I remember some interest in the game when I made the topic before (Couldn't find it in search), so I'm posting the vids. |
These Dynasty Warriors games are generally failburgers for all the reasons mentioned above. The controls are also very loose and floaty, and there is no feeling of impact when you hit people. Like everyone is made of cardboard.
I was just playing Fight Night round 4 and let me tell you, when Mike Tyson whiffs a hook and you uppercut him in return, YOU FEEL IT. That's what I want. |
Doesn't hurt they're trying to make it God of War type without any actual God of War feel.
|
Also, they are making a Fist of the Northstar DW game (kinda like the Gundam ones) but without any of the the "strategy" crap. Pure brawling.

Or, as Kalyx would call it, every Dynasty Warriors game. |
Musta forgot because I saw it on EP Daily yesterday.

I made a thread on it a while back. I don't think it shows up in searches anymore, just like the N3 sequel thread I made. Doesn't matter too much.
Did youi play Ninety-Nine nights? It's more or less a glorified tech demo. One of those things that at best shows promise for future iterations, and it did that at least. The gameplay was broken though. I was really hoping (And still am, to a lesser extent) that they fix it. FotN seems like a horrible fit for DW. Worse than DW Gundam. But then, Both DW Gundam titles sold in Japan, so I'm going to wager they know what they're doing here. Not like us Westerners are the target audience. Hell, look at their decision to make SW3 a Wii exclusive. |
Actually, it's out in Japan now. I figured they were spending the next couple of months translating it for its summer release. Probably selling a boat load there.
N3 really is tech demoish. Trouble is just that some people are ridiculously broken and others are completely shit. |

There's far too few frames between attack start-up and recovery animations, making the attacks look rigid and robotic. Still, multiplayer is rare for action games (nigh non-existent even) and you look quite powerful forcing back a bunch of goons. Decent art style, cool visuals (character designs are 'obvious', imo, I'll discuss it with Khuntry later).

Not that anyone here would ever be lured in by slapping a novelty feature on a clone of a title they hate...:D |
I know, hence the http://www.tpww.net/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif.
I don't hate N3, I just think it isn't worth more than the $10 I paid for it. Actually, I gotta sit down and finish it so I can beef up my <s>gamerscore</s> e-p33n. |
Maxing all characters is so boring I just stopped.
King of nights is worse. You either need to spam one tecnique or die, your choice. |
