Georges St. Pierre, one of the most cerebral fighters in all of mixed martial arts, has turned himself into one of, if not the most complete fighters in the world. A striker, coming from a karate background when he first entered the UFC, GSP honed his wrestling skills to the point where he may be the best MMA grappler in the world. So why would NHL veteran Georges Laraque call him out on the wrestling mat? We have no clue but now he knows it was a mistake. LaRaque, who is listed at 6-foot-3, 253 pounds said weighs around 275 pounds. He had a weight advantage of 60-75 pounds but his power couldn't overcome GSP's technique and stamina. "That's much harder than an NHL game or a hockey fight," Laraque told "Off the Record's" Michael Landsberg following the tilt. "It's unbelievable, I couldn't imagine fighting someone my own size." Laraque said he felt like the weaker man. "For his size, he's stronger than me." St. Pierre scored at least six takedowns over three rounds while Laraque never threatened. The former Oiler, Penguin, Coyote and Canadian was also breathing heavily in the match. |
GSP is a dangerous, dangerous man.

Georges is huge. I stood next to him briefly at my previous job.
|
I seriously don't know how Laraque thought he stood a chance.

In a technical skills match such as UFC or a Wrestling Match, he is not well conditioned enough or trained for that type of fight. Look how long UFC fights and NHL fights last, Laraque had to land a few punches to win, in UFC if you cant get the knockout you have to have the stamina to wear your opponent down. Anyways, GSP is the man. |
In a straight up fight, GSP wins every time against a guy like Laraque. Seriously.
|
Yeah, Fallen Angel. What?
GSP is a fighter. The word "fight" is in the title of his occupation. |

I agree GSP would likely beat him. Saying in a fistfight, its hard to say. Laraque hits like a tank, so I dont know if GSP wouldnt be knocked out by him. |
In a fist fight GSP would win easily, he's a professional FIGHTER, wtf?

If he were to hit GSP, are you sure that Laraque wouldnt knock him out? Im not in favor of either as I am a fan of both. |
Icebox, I just want to make sure here. Just want to really hone in on your thesis here. You think that a hockey player could possibly beat not just a professional UFC fighter, but GEORGES ST. PIERRE, in a straight fight. Do I have that right?

Anybody can land a lucky punch, but Laraque would have no chance in a one on one fight with GSP. Seriously.

Unless it were on the ice.
