History of wrestling rumours

I thought it would be interesting for us to compile as many wrestling rumours we've heard over the years as we can. Rumours about planned matches, backstage fights, sex scandals, etc.

Here's what I can remember from the top of my head. Some of these may not be true.

Austin, not The Rock, was the first choice to face Hogan at WrestleMania 18. Austin wanted no part in feuding with Hogan.

Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels in a ladder match was the original plan for Summerslam 1992 in England.

Ted Dibiase has been promised that he'll win the WWF and NWA title, but didn't receive either.

The original plan was for Randy Savage to beat Honky Tonk Man for the IC Title at WrestleMania 4, but HTM didn't want to put Savage over. So instead, they gave Savage the World Title.

Hogan was supposed to put Bret Hart over at Summerslam 1993 in a passing of the torch type of match. But Hogan didn't want to do it, so he lost to Yokozuna, and Yokozuna eventually lost to Hart.

Some original names being thrown around to lead the nWo with Hall and Nash (instead of Hogan) were Lex Luger and Bret Hart (who I believe was in contract negotiations with both WWF and WCW at the time).

Savage-Stephanie, someone had to get it out of the way.

Lock Jaw 05-31-2010 06:59 PM

Yellow Shirt Fan was INDEED impressed.

Volare 05-31-2010 07:02 PM

Something about shitting in a bag, then an RKO on the bag....or in the bag....well the bag had it comin that's for sure.

BollywoodSingh 05-31-2010 07:08 PM

I also heard someone shit in Jerry Lawler's crown once. I think Scott Hall.

Shadrick 05-31-2010 07:20 PM

Owen Hart was about to get a MONSTROUS push in the upcoming months had he not passed away. They were gonna give him a run with the championship.

Yeah, I heard that Triple H got Owen's push and "The Game" gimmick after Owen died.

Tazz Dan 05-31-2010 08:31 PM

I heard that Hulk Hogan was Mr. America, but this was never confirmed.

Rammsteinmad 05-31-2010 08:52 PM

That Bret Hart is going to return. :shifty:

Tazz Dan 05-31-2010 08:57 PM

WHAT THE FUCK?

Thank you for ruining Brets return, thank you for ruining what would have been my only mark out moment in a year.

WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU TYPE "SPOILERS" WHEN YOU TYPE WHAT THE SPOILER IS RIGHT BESIDE IT!!!!!!!!!

Now I know Bret is confirmed, he is my favourite wrestler, hearing his damn music hit would have made me mark out so bad, but no, you have to fucking ruin it, couldn't you make the title "History of wrestling rumours" alone? Seriously man, use your goddam brain. Why mark for spoilers when the spoiler is right beside where you mark for spoilers.

Fuck this shit, you're not the only one who does it, so many people do, i am out of the fucking wrestling forum besides for tipsters until Wrestlemania is over, see you all April fourth.

BollywoodSingh 05-31-2010 09:31 PM

Is that a reference to someone else getting mad of someone spoiling Bret Hart's return?

Xero 05-31-2010 09:33 PM

That Steve Blackman leaving the Brawl for All wasn't due to injury but because he is such a great man that he voluntarily stepped aside in order to allow someone else to win.

This is also the reason he was never made WWE Champion. It was instantly requested from him that he be champ, but he turned it down because he said it would be completely unbelievable were he to ever lose the championship in any way.

No need for the attitude. I was asking if it's a reference to someone else flipping out over Bret Hart's return being spoiled a few months ago. If so, I'd like to see that post.

The Pope 05-31-2010 10:42 PM

I heard that Carlito was going to get a push in these years; '04,'05,'06,'07,'08,'09,'10 but never did.

Nark Order 05-31-2010 11:12 PM

Steve Corino pissed on Lita.

Wonder how he got over the stage fright.

You clearly didn't wind the frog....

Bam Bam Bigelow was supposed to get a WWF Championship run after jobbing to Lawrence Taylor at WrestleMania XI. This did not happen and Bam Bam left the WWF forever, working everywhere but there until his death.

Goldberg was supposed to make his debut at WrestleMania XIX, showing up after the Rock/Austin match, but it was held off once WWE Officials and Vince found out that it would be Austin's last match in his career.

Rikishi was going to get a run with the WWF Championship after his feud with Stone Cold in the "Who Ran Over Stone Cold?" angle, but the terrible reactions to his heel character scratched that idea out and Kurt Angle got a longer run instead.

Mr. Nerfect 06-01-2010 08:48 AM

I seem to recall Eddie Guerrero being rumoured for a World Heavyweight Title run just prior to his death. It's more recent, but it's there. I also remember reading somewhere that after doing a stint on ECW, and winning the championship there, Chris Benoit would be given a run with the WWE Title. This might have made him the first WWE, ECW and World Heavyweight Champion in history, had this of happened.

Swiss Ultimate 06-01-2010 09:01 AM

Chris Benoit killed his family.

Big Show beat him to it.

Ermaximus 06-01-2010 11:45 AM

Matt Hardy was going to be pushed in favor of Jeff. :shifty:

The Pope 06-01-2010 11:47 AM

That John Cena's in-ring skills would improve.

This one is more of a bullshit lie than a rumor. Let's not kid ourselves here.

Next Big Thing 06-01-2010 12:37 PM

Kevin Sullivan killed the Benoits

Hulk Hogan actually won matches with a leg drop

The Pope 06-01-2010 03:54 PM

That RVD was going to return to WWE at the Royal Rumble.

BillyBonez 06-01-2010 04:12 PM

That Gangrel and Mideon were going to come back and form a vampire stable with Kevin Thorn and ariel. That would be kinda cool, too bad Thorn sucked a train of ass!

BollywoodSingh 06-01-2010 07:04 PM

Owen Hart was booked to win the IC title the night he died.

Eddie Guerrero was booked to win the World Title on Smackdown. I think there was a Batista-Orton-Guerrero triple threat scheduled for Smackdown.

Chris Benoit was booked to win the ECW Title in his scheduled match against CM Punk at the June 2007 PPV but died a day or two before it.

I think the Owen Hart title win was confirmed by people from WWE, not sure about Benoit and Guerrero.

The original plan for WrestleMania 9 was for Yokozuna to beat Bret Hart, but that would be the end of the show. However, Hogan told Vince he wanted the title or wouldn't show up.

The original plan for WrestleMania 10 was for Luger to walk out as champion but he was caught spoiling the ending at a bar that weekend so the booking was changed. I doubt this one was true. Bret Hart was way more over than Luger at this point.

Lex Luger vs. Ludvig Borga was at one time a plan for the WM 10 main event.

I remember this one: before Kenzo Suzuki debuted, the plan was for him to be immediately put into a World Title program with Benoit. After realizing that Suzuki sucked in the ring, he became a mid carder.

I also remember rumours of Scott Hall debuting at the 2001 Royal Rumble but it never happenned.

Pretty sure Luger was due to win the belt at SummerSlam 93 but ended up winning by Count Out because he leaked his "win".

Technically, Big Show was the first WCW, WWF/E and "ECW" Champ. He's never held the (WWE) World Heavyweight Championship.

No one has/will (save for ECW being brought back again) be the first man to hold a WWE, WHC and ECW trifecta.

CM Punk lacks only the WWE Championship.

XL 06-03-2010 09:14 PM

Punk! Of course.

Well caught. I expect him to do it eventually.

tjmidnight420 06-03-2010 09:15 PM

As do I.
