Anyone ever promoted for a major promotion but wound up going to the compeition?
I was just wondering if there was ever a time when someone was promoted to be coming into a major promotion (take your pick from any era) but the contract wasn't done, things fell through or whatever similar situation and instead wound up in the competition soon after?
How about a situation like Hogan's original TNA deal where they promoted him but things had fallen through? |
Nigel McGuinness going to WWE, but failing the physical and winding up Desmond Wolfe in TNA.

Didn't Christian's contract in WWE end, but he was still being promoted for Taboo Toosday as one of the choices? Even showed up at the PPV to stand around in the back despite not being under contract.

Not that I recall, might have had a few mentions in FCW.

How about Hirohito in 2004?
I remember the promotions were heavy, and they even planned for him to fued with Benoit and Jericho for the world title that summer, but it never ended up happening. I don't remember if Hirohito even debuted or not. If he did, it was so short-lived and minimal that it's forgotten compared to the massive hype. |
I think Hirohito was Kenzo Suzuki, wasn't it? They just scrapped the Hirohito thing because they realized it might offend people.
|
Yeah it was Kenzo.
|
Kizarny was promoted forever, and then made like... two actual appearances before getting released. Kind of similar, but different.
|
Kenzo Suzuki was gonna be in a World title feud?
|
Hey, Vladamir Kozlov WAS in a World Title feud.
|
Really? Oh shit I don't remember this! Please be the ECW title!
|
The Great Khali was WORLD CHAMPION.
|
I think Xero wins.

I also believe he was in the chamber match that year for the title, and was on the poster promoting it |
"I ill *incomprehensible* Triple H *incomprehensible* WORLD CHAMPION *incomprehensible* Triple H *incomprehensible* da Double Double E!"

shannon moore was getting a huge push in TNA but then decided to go to WWE to be a jobber.

There's always the infamous incident of Rick Rude being on both Raw and Nitro on the same week.

Either way, it wasn't as if they were promoting him. |
