Tim Burton/The Addams Family?
I just read something on comingsoon.net looking for the trailer for Predators that seemed to confirm an animated Addams Family directed by Tim Burton was going to happen.
I guess there are really no other details at this time, but it could be really cool. Not a big fan of his last couple of "remakes," but....It's Tim Burton. |
Johnny Depp as Gomez, Helena Bonham Carter as Morticia. Crispin Glover as Uncle Fester?
|
Tim Burton gives his take on yet another established property that's already delightfuly macabre
|
Aside from Sweeney Todd, I really haven't enjoyed a thing he's done in years.
Big Fish and Ed Wood are still masterpieces, but he's really overdone the adaptation to the point of death. I prefered it when he was offering up his own creations in the early 90s. |
I am looking forward to this.
|
I thought The Wizard of Oz was next
|
Saw that it will be stop motion and potentially in black and white.
They could rip everyone off for 3D since Coraline was in 3D and looked great, but I cant see that working in B&W. |
If he insists on working with Johnny Depp at all times they should have just had him direct the next Pirates film and kill two birds with one stone

Tim Burton should bring Michael Keaton back into the mix
|
Johnny Depp needs to get away from Tim Burton. I love Depp, but I'm really losing interest in him because of Burton.
|
My roommate pointed out how bizarre it would be if they got Christina Ricci to play Morticia.
At all, for anything really. |
I'm glad you cited your roommate in that comment. You could have posted that and taken all the glory for yourself but instead you gave it up for a man we will never meet. I like that.

I guess I like Depp for his early stuff still. Besides Sparrow, I can't think of anything really standout that he's done lately. :(
|
He was definitely iconic and entertaining as Sparrow, but I found the sequels to be so poor that I really think that role is much larger than the franchise. I'm not sure what their plans are for the next Pirates movie, but their best bet is clearly making it as Sparrow-centric as possible. Possibly a prequel about him?
|
Interestingly enough, I had heard that Michael Keaton was considered for the role of Jack Sparrow early on.
He was also considered for the role of Jack on LOST. Basically, Michael Keaton needs to land another big role |
Pirates of the Caribbean: Adventures of Jack Sparrow
|
Michael Keaton was Ken in Toy Story 3! :P
But yeah, Depp definitely carried the sequels. A prequel would be really awesome. They could basically do anything with it. I think what made the sequels disappointing was how outrageous they got. The first one was just cursed pirates. The third one had sword fights on a ship sail while going into a giant whirl pool. |
Personally I felt the sequels biggest pitfall was trying to turn it into a saga, instead of remaining episodic. Sparrow should have remained a constant, but otherwise they tried to inject too much into the existing story.
It tried to go too Star Wars, when it should have stuck to the basics and gone more Indiana Jones. |
I never really thought about it like that, but what you're saying makes sense.
It definitely would have been better to have just been seperate adventures, instead of making it one long story. |
By the end of the second they were forcing it so much. I don't think the trifecta of main characters had the mileage they hoped. They tried to create a mythology and patch together the navy and the villains and everything to create their own trilogy.
I'd really just rather see Captain Jack Sparrow as our recognizable adventurer who tackles a new challenge/antagonist every movie, with a few familiar faces along the way. Sometimes the best option is the most simple. I feel as though nailing a trilogy is too sought after these days, and a lot of franchises fall apart trying to do so. |
Well yeah, when you look at it, once Will and Keira Knightley's character (Can't remember her name) got married, where could they really go?
|
I don't want to derail KK's topic too much on this Johnny Depp tangent though. I would like to see the concept of pirates approached differently by somebody for a change.
I honestly wouldn't be opposed to Tim Burton doing such a movie. I wish Tim Burton would make something fresh, rather than an adaptation of classic fairy tales or gothic fiction. Even a straight up sequel to one of his earlier films would be refreshing. |
Aight, that's cool.
On the topic of him making a sequel, Michael Keaton just said that he would be down for a sequel to BeetleJuice. |
I hope this doesn't lead to a reboot of the Uncle Fester electricution challenge in arcades. That game is perfect the way it is.

Just for reference. |

I can't wait until Tim Burton's awful movie rendition of The Munsters

I would love to see another Beetlejuice

Tim Burton Presents: Leave It To Beaver
starring Johnny Depp as The Beav |
I've never really cared either way. I wasn't into the movies as a kid, nor did I really care about the old show.
It was the sort of thing it seemed like a lot of other people were into at the time, but I just couldn't care less. |
