Goldust retires

From his twitter

Quote:

Goldust apparently announced his retirement Tuesday evening on Twitter.

"i am retired," he wrote, adding, "byeeeeeeeee."

Though it should be noted that in a previous tweet, he said he was very tired coming off the road and heading to the beach.

The multi-time Intercontinental Champion has been largely relegated to Superstars since being drafted to Raw in April, having only competed once on WWE's flagship program. In what may have been his final match in WWE, "The Golden One" teamed up with Yoshi Tatsu at Monday night's Superstars taping in Philadelphia, taking on Zack Ryder and Primo.

Splaya 06-30-2010 01:45 AM

Thank you Goldust for all the memories, especially during the Attitude Era. Loved your angles that you did with Val Venis and how you made yourself and Terri look like lovable psychos

DLVH84 06-30-2010 01:45 AM

After 22 years in the ring, he had a good career. I especially loved his runs in WCW.

Evil Vito 06-30-2010 01:45 AM

Damn, that sucks. Ever since his move to ECW last year, he'd been putting on his best matches since the '90s.

But, he's 41 years old and has been wrestling for over 2 decades. I don't blame him for hanging 'em up.

Besides, he'll probably be back for occasional appearances.

Mr. Pierre 06-30-2010 01:46 AM

Noooo..damn. Always really enjoyed Goldust's work. I'm glad he ended his career though with WWE by putting on some fun matches under his most famous persona, instead of ending it in Florida with a pet rat.

If this is really the end of his career, I gotta say that I really enjoyed it :y:

Fourfifty is now on suicide watch.

Evil Vito 06-30-2010 01:55 AM

Everytime Goldust would pop in for an extremely short match or vignette, I wondered if he grew tired of putting on all that paint just for that.

Probably a bad time to mention Kane's retiring after Mania.

DrCrawford 06-30-2010 02:25 AM

wow. i saw his last match then on the superstars taping before raw. feels weird

still think he should have feuded with cody

Schlomey 06-30-2010 02:30 AM

Yeah he was awesome on ECDub. Sad to see him go again with no fanfare.

DAMN iNATOR 06-30-2010 02:35 AM

Well, it wasn't exactly unexpected on my part. He was a pretty solid performer, maybe not up there with the main eventers of his time or anything, but what he lacked as far as in-ring ability he more than made up for with his great character and that character's bizzare sense of humor.

We'll miss ya, Goldie, and you can rest assured that this fan will never forget the name of (inhales deeply) (pauses, resuming speaking in a slightly deeper voice)...GOLDUST!

KYR 06-30-2010 02:37 AM

Oh Dear Lord.

Sovereigntywillpr 06-30-2010 02:46 AM

he seemed to be in better shape the past year than anytime prior to attitude era...

maybe affter some time off while taking care of his body and keeping up the cardio etc the sworeness will go away and he'll realize that despite age as long as he;s in shape and doesn't have bad perminent injurys, he might be able to make it back for another stuny and talking as seriouse as the 90's.

legendkillerRKO 06-30-2010 02:49 AM

the only good part about this is that i got to see his last match live on monday... :(

Lock Jaw 06-30-2010 03:06 AM

It's a work. Goldust was the limo driver.

Shadow 06-30-2010 03:08 AM

NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

Did he frame Danielson, too?

Mr. Nerfect 06-30-2010 04:52 AM

I've always loved Goldust. I actually would have liked to have seen him get a bit of a retirement angle before he disappeared off into the sunset. A "passing the torch" moment to Yoshi Tatsu or Zack Ryder could have been cool. You'll be missed, Goldie.

tjmidnight420 06-30-2010 04:56 AM

Dusty was another one of those guys who may not have made the show, but he damn sure fleshed it out. Nobody else could've played that character like him and he will be sorely missed in a business where personality matters.

Afterlife 06-30-2010 07:30 AM

I really wanted him to to feud with Cody into Mania.

Afterlife 06-30-2010 07:30 AM

This makes me really, really sad.

XL 06-30-2010 08:59 AM

He's never been one of my favourite wrestlers/personalities but I would have liked him to go out with a bit more fanfare. It's a shame that they ended ECW for guys like Goldust - he was never gonna get a major role on either of the big shows.

Like Afterlife said, I would have gotten into a fued between him and his brother.

Afterlife 06-30-2010 09:03 AM

I'm sure, if he feels up to it down the road, he can always come back and do it.

VSG 06-30-2010 09:18 AM

Playing Black Reign definitely cut some years off his career then

Cya Rhodes Jr.!

#1-norm-fan 06-30-2010 10:04 AM

So the only thing we're basing him being retired on is him TWEETING that he was very tired coming off the road... and then following that up with a TWEET saying "i am retired..... byeeeeeeeeee"?

So, we're completely ignoring the very strong possibility that he was fucking around and making reference to how much he enjoyed a little time off with a little sarcasm?

I mean, I guess it's possible that he decided to announce his retirement in that fashion but it could have also been a random, silly twitter comment. Just sayin'.

XL 06-30-2010 10:12 AM

True.

Rammsteinmad 06-30-2010 10:13 AM

Yeah, he coulda meant it as 'retiring for the night', aka going to bed.

Although if he's done for good, then I guess thanks for the momories etc, and good on him for getting out before ever suffering any uber serious injuries.

LuigiD 06-30-2010 10:26 AM

huh..he is performing at an FCW show on July 9th with Dusty and Cody.

Savio 06-30-2010 11:05 AM

He will be back.....he should have been a pro on NXT lol.

Yeah, I think Goldust would have been an awesome pro...certainly a more sensible choice than Cody Rhodes, at least.

I actually made him a Pro in my EWR game, with his rookie being the golden-haired Drake Brewer, who kinda looks like Heidenreich. Comedy ensued.

Afterlife 06-30-2010 11:42 AM

Actually, Goldust as an NXT pro would be fantastic.

He had the runs? :shifty:

erickman 06-30-2010 01:03 PM

i hope he comes back for one last fued with his brother, that would be good for him to pass the torch to cody.

Providence Peep 06-30-2010 01:16 PM

A sad loss for the WWE, for sure.

I would have loved a Cody Rhodes/Goldust feud for obvious reasons, although that feud would have been underrated. Also, he ought to be commended for carrying Sheamus back in ECW. It was the feud between those two that gave the green light for Sheamus to jump over to Raw. Enjoy your retirement, Dustin, and thanks for the memories.

The Pope 06-30-2010 01:31 PM

Best gimmick ever!!!

ORANGE-LOCKE 06-30-2010 01:36 PM

As its been said, very underrated guy with a great work ethic and passion for the business. A feud between he and Cody would have been classic. Especially if they knew this was his last major contribution by putting his brother over. And I can imagine all the fun they could have had with this regarding all the Goldust mindgames, interactions, etc. Could have been a cool little angle. Goodbye Goldust, have some great memories of you...everything from standing up against the Hart Foundation in '97 to Stone Cold Steve Austin giving a Stunner to "Baby-Dust" and then throwing him in a portable bathroom....
