Anderson Silva vs. Brock Lesnar

Would a fight featuring Anderson Silva and Brock Lesnar make sense?

On the surface, Silva vs. Lesnar makes sense because both fighters are just so dominant at the moment, but the fact remains that the heavyweight walks around at 285 while the Spider walks around at 215.

Regardless of the outcome, this would equal money for everyone involved, and the winner would be given some props. My prediction would be Silva by decision. I really hope the UFC can make this fight happen.

Vastardikai 07-11-2010 04:31 PM

Silva provided that Lesnar doesn't get his hands on him. Lesnar gets his hands on him, I don't know if his ground game is good enough for a guy who likes to beat you in the face with the fire hydrants he calls fists.

Reavant 07-11-2010 04:41 PM

silva decision? youre done

Nark Order 07-11-2010 04:52 PM

If this fight happened, it would probably be a catch weight fight with no titles involved. Also, Silva has notoriously had a rough time with wrestlers. If Brock got him down, which I think he would because Silva most likely wouldn't be strong enough to stuff such a shot from a monster, Lesnar would eventually out muscle him to a victory. Just my thoughts.

However, if Silva was too quick for Lesnar to shoot on, got his strikes in quickly, and evaded most of Brock's offense, he could probably do it. Also, the Silva "crazy strikes" that are hard to scout could come into play and be trouble for Brock.

My gut says Brock though.

What Would Kevin Do? 07-11-2010 05:09 PM

Brock.

He obviously has a good chin, so unless he ate a brutal knee going for the takedown, I don't think he'd have a problem getting the fight to the ground. From there, it'd probably be over.

I dont wanna say great chin but I dont see The Spider overcomming that much of a size diffrence. Plus, I think Silva is more around 190ish at most nowadays.

I think a more fair question would be could GSP untangle the web of The Spider?

lol seriously

Beauser 07-11-2010 11:03 PM

You wouldn't say great chin? When has he been knocked out? last time I saw, he got the HELL beat out of his face. The man can take a punch. Or Several.

Nark Order 07-11-2010 11:07 PM

Yes and no. As much as I think Lesnar is a stud and can somewhat take a punch, Carwin had awful striking accuracy in that fight and only hit a handful of punches flush, and of those, many of them were after he was pretty tired. I don't think Lesnar's chin has truly "run the gaunlet" yet.

Vastardikai 07-12-2010 12:10 AM

I said this on another board, and I'll say it here. This is the thought process of many of Lesnar's Detractors:

<s>Herring</s> <s>Couture</s> <s>Mir</s> <s>Carwin</s> Velasquez is the "real test" for Brock Lesnar.

:Holds the strike-through pen in case Velasquez loses, ready to put in JDS, Big Country, or anyone else.:

The Mask 07-12-2010 12:22 AM

this is ridiculous. catchweight? how low do you think brock could go? and silva isn't a muscley guy.

silva vs rua, now there's a fight i'd like to see.

Nark Order 07-12-2010 12:24 AM

lol, yeah. I don't think they'd ever face each other. But if they did, the most likely scenario would probably be catchweight.

Impact! 07-12-2010 12:26 AM

It would be heavyweight. Lesnar can only fight at heavyweight, anderson can make the heavyweight range (but nowhere near the weight of Lesnar).

Break out the juice. We might just get Silva to be the next Gregg Valentino.

Nark Order 07-12-2010 12:38 AM

Oh, I guess a catch weight fight for an extreme heavyweight would be kind of silly now that I'm thinking about it.

Impact! 07-12-2010 12:56 AM

Considering Heavyweight ranges from 206/207 up to 265 theres really no need for a catchweight. Especially considering the only way that the two of them would be able to reach the same weight would be to amputate one of Lesnar legs :p

Nark Order 07-12-2010 12:57 AM

Now THAT I would watch.

Impact! 07-12-2010 01:07 AM

Brock "One" Legnar

Inadequacy 07-12-2010 01:23 AM

Team him back up with Zach Gowen

Dave Youell 07-12-2010 02:58 AM

That match would be both epic and hilarious.

Clearly Lesnar for the win though.

Rammsteinmad 07-12-2010 04:30 AM

I remember reading rumours/reports/posts (can't remember) where people were saying Silva was bored with the competition in his weight class. I told my MMA pal at work about this and said IMO they should just book him in a non-title fight against Brock Lesnar if he wants some competition.

Rammsteinmad 07-12-2010 04:32 AM

But I would like to see Silva face GSP first. That would be a sweet fight. Silva would have to drop weight though right? I dunno where he's at at the moment.

Impact! 07-12-2010 05:42 AM

GSP and Silva could fight at a catchweight of 180 or something, otherwise GSP could probably go up to 185.

Funky Fly 07-12-2010 05:57 AM

Dunno if Silva could hit lower than 185 and be healthy. GSP walks around at 185.

Reavant 07-12-2010 07:46 AM

silva fought at 168 in pride a couple times

I thought it was 190 or higher. I could be wrong.

Dave Youell 07-12-2010 03:47 PM

I think it's reasonable to expect Brock to drop down to Silva's weight, I mean that's only like 80 pounds right.................

At this point, are we splitting hairs? Lesnar caught a lights out uppercut that had his ass on the run. If that uppercut hit ANY OTHER FIGHTER, they'd have crumpled. We've seen it before.

Was he just a smaller guy back then? Also, did he appear to have Rumble Johnson/Cory Hill severe dehydration problems?

Some dudes can do it, others not so much. Look at Nate Diaz. Dude cuts to lightweight and does ok, but loses power. Fight at welter and shows a fair bit of strength.

Corey Hill couldn't have been more than a 165,

Nate DIaz is a natural lightweight, atleast he was last time I say him.

His last fight was catchweight at 177 pounds. Diaz weighed in at 171. He also had less of that crack addict super skinny physique going in. Seems more like he's naturally around 165 - 170.

He's lucky then. Not many can drop that kinda weight and not have health problems.

IC Champion 07-12-2010 07:06 PM

Most fighter who weight around 165-170 fight at 155.

and I think that was Corey Hills natual body weight, on TUF 5 I think they said he was walking around at 163 or something.

Funky Fly 07-12-2010 07:11 PM

He's too tall for it to be healthy, tho. All of the tall, super skinny guys I know irl have crazy health problems. He should make an effort to put on more weight so he doesn't get really sick/suffer more injuries. I know lots of guys cut down, but it's easier if you're only giving up some fat and non-essential muscle mass.

I'm worried he's gonna get seriously ill.

Mr. JL 07-12-2010 07:21 PM

Anderson Silva would break himself everytime he hit Brock Lesnar.

Seriously though, I think Lesnar would just mow him down though. GnP and that is all she wrote.

IC Champion 07-12-2010 07:21 PM

I think he jusyt can't gain weight, I'm sure he's tried. He doesn't even diet or anything like that, guy eats whatever he wants.

The Mask 07-13-2010 01:29 AM

he's anderson silva. probably the greatest p4p fighter in the world. he doesn't need to muscle up, whatever he's doing is obviously working for him.

The Mask 07-13-2010 01:29 AM

oh wait you're talking about corey hill
