Last Nitro...

I'm not 100% sure when Nitro went on air that night (8 or 9), so I'm wondering if the promo that aired on RAW (below) was the same one that opened Nitro? Or was there another promo that opened the final Nitro?

I can't find any video of it from the Nitro side. Only video I can find starts after the opening with the Flair promo.

Here's the promo from RAW's side:

<object style="height: 344px; width: 425px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zGf-PzpP8uY"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zGf-PzpP8uY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></object>

Also, were there any Nitro-exclusive Vince McMahon segments on the show?

Loose Cannon 07-21-2010 04:27 PM

No exclusive McMahon segments.

god, I thought I remembered, but now am having 2nd thoughts. I wanna say Vince opened Nitro with a promo from another location (Raw)

I believe Nitro started at 8, but I don't remember if it was a one or two hour show.

Loose Cannon 07-21-2010 04:30 PM

oh you know what, yes, Vince did appear throughout the show a couple segments. It was just him making fun of WCW from what I remember

Xero 07-21-2010 04:32 PM

So I just looked up the results and it seems that Vince opened Nitro from the RAW stage.

It was a two hour show for sure, and the simulcast ended Nitro, so it started at 8.

Mooияakeя™ 07-21-2010 05:41 PM

GOD THAT FUCKING RAW THEME.

So much love for that right there.

Quality isn't that great but its the WCW Nitro episode on the last day of the Monday Night War.

Nitro started @ 8 and ended @ 10 with the Shane promo.

Nobody. NOBODY. Holds a mic like flair.

Xero 07-22-2010 04:18 PM

Awesome. Thanks Meatball.

Outsider 07-23-2010 02:04 PM

I have that on video somewhere.

Domino 08-06-2010 01:14 AM

I don't know if any of you remember, but Tony Schiavone got pretty angry on air at William Regal during the show for bashing WCW during one of the WWE cutaway segments. It was pretty funny. I think the entire last Nitro is on Youtube in parts.

Domino 08-06-2010 01:15 AM

I also didn't realize the entire episode was in this thread, haha.

what was the second last nitro like?

was there any talk of wcw being sold or any hint towards what was going on?

The Pope 08-15-2010 04:37 PM

Yes, it started with Vince on the screen saying he had bought the competition.

I'm kind of interested in how much information was out as well. I wasn't really one of those IWC guys at the time. I seem to remember reading somewhere, probably TPWW, the day of that Nitro about Vince buying WCW. I don't remember any info about it before that.

Jeritron 08-16-2010 03:40 AM

I can't believe how much potential the whole angle had from that Vince/Shane promo.

At the time of the second last Nitro I think it was known that it was about to get pulled from AOL/Time Warner and the rumours of the Fusient Deal collapsing were in the air. They had just came off the back of Greed and were building the the 'Night of Champions' that actually took place on the final Nitro. There was a recorded message on the second last Nitro from Bischoff that set it all up. In between the two Nitros and by Thunder is was more well known that the deal was collapsing and that McMahon was going to be the main contender for purchasing WCW.

I think the second last nitro is on youtube or dailymotion.

He bought it the Friday before the last Nitro. I remember it because I was on Spring Break of my Freshman year and I was in the AOL Wrestle Chat room chatting about what was happening. Then around 3-4 pm - a giant splash page appeared on wwf.com that had the WWF logo and had the word "Buys" next to it and then it had the WCW logo.

Jeritron 08-16-2010 07:10 AM

I was a freshman in high school, and didn't really read much internet news back then, so I actually found out that monday night on Raw. It was pretty shocking and exciting

The Mackem 08-16-2010 07:25 AM

I actually remember it going down on TPWW in the wrestling forum. Back then you had your diehard WCW fans (Outsider ;) and a few others) some of whom absolutely refused to believe it until Vince McMahon showed up on Nitro and ended any lingering doubts.

must of been a hell of a party at titan towers
i bet the booking team must have went crazy with the amount of things they can do then of course, they fucked it up.

I always believed wcw should of ran as another company with their own ppvs etc. Then have the ones like mania and starcade be cross promotion events. So much potential..all wasted.

Razzamajazz 08-22-2010 10:47 PM

check out the guest booker interview with jim cornette, that's pretty much how he did it

That's what they wanted to do until Viacom and Tacoma, Washington helped put those plans to sh*t.
