What did Mike Knox not have?

I was looking back at Mike Knox shorty before his release and I noticed he looked alot like WCW jobber and Saturday Night main eventer Rick Fuller.

Anyways, why do you think Mike Knox didnt become a main event monster heel for Smackdown? He had decient size, agility (he could hit that crossbody pretty well), and he had a diffrent aspect of the psycho big man than Sid or Dan Spivey.

His character probably came too late which is too bad because it was good. It really didn't get that much time. Plus Smackdown already had its share of monsters at the time between Kane, Taker and I think Khali may have been there when he left. He was probably the least over.

Triple H was jealous of his awesome facial hair.

A chin.

I truly believed his "desert destroyer" gimmick would have worked if he got more tv time. Instead he became random monster no. 55

It

Schlomey 07-25-2010 01:29 PM

loved. mike. knox. he was growing into a favorite before he became a shitty jobber and got fired. what a let down.

He had it all accept writers support. What other man his size could deliver such a huge bicycle axe kick & a flying cross body block....

You answered your own question there. He was "different." Cerebral big men traditionally haven't worked that well over the last few years, unless it's the supernatural-mind-games kind of cerebral.

It's a shame, too, because he could move, he could talk, and he just looked freaking scary. He legitimately looked like he could tear your arms off and beat you with them.

Was he still doing the soft-spoken thing at the end? Because that was bloody awesome. Most big guys are all "RAWR IM FERCE!" But he was all calm and brutal at once.

itsmeJD 07-25-2010 01:53 PM

It makes no sense to me that they released someone with so much upside, and yet Khali still stumbles his way through his half assed "comedy" bits. Really dropped the ball with Knox.

thedamndest 07-25-2010 01:53 PM

He was. It seemed like they weren't really committed to doing anything with him. They'd let him win some matches against jobbers but then when it came to facing a real person I don't remember him winning ever. Then the cycle would start over.

He didn't have a razor.

But Khali is a giant. He could kill someone in the ring and still get a push. And I don't mean an accident, like what actually happened.

itsmeJD 07-25-2010 04:55 PM

Khali is the only "giant" I'd have no problem fighting simply because I feel my odds are good that he'd stumble and break his goofy fucking neck trying to get to me.

Kane Knight 07-25-2010 05:02 PM

Then do it...For the people.

There's a pretty simple reason why Khali is still in WWE, other than his size. He is a mega star in India and other South Asian markets. I would say his job is pretty safe.

More than writing even, its a lack of mic time that held him back. Lets face it, the "WWE Universe" won't get behind workrate, especially if its "He's a really agile big man, ugly as fuck heel." He needed time to cut promos to the audience, get him some legit heat.

All they had him do is wrestle, and in the WWE, doing just that is not going to get you over.

Swiss Ultimate 07-25-2010 06:19 PM

His beard was way over.

RatedGSuperstar 07-25-2010 06:32 PM

Knox forever became one of my favorites during that feud with Rey Mysterio. Josh Matthews asked him why he was tormenting Mysterio, and he said something like "I don't have a reason."

Awesome.

I really thought he had a chance to become a main event (or at least upper midcard) monster, especially considering he won a spot in the Raw Elimination Chamber that one year. It was during that period where they were desperately trying to find a monster main event heel, and everyone they seemed to try didn't stick (thinking mostly of Kozlov here). I thought with another strong feud he could've made it, but he just really lost steam once he got drafted. It's like Michael Hayes just didn't know what to do with him on Smackdown.

DAMN iNATOR 07-27-2010 06:29 AM

TBH, the only thing he really didn't have was a fair shot to prove himself. I mean, you have him legitimately taking guys out with this mad doctor type gimmick which was brilliant, and then all of a sudden, BAM! he's gone...I think if they'd developed the character a bit more and fleshed it out he could potentially be a serious mid-upper card player on SmackDown!
