No more James Bond?

Quote:

MGM is in a giant financial mess. Today's story indicates that their money woes are reaching critical mass.

AICN is reporting that apparently all development on the latest James Bond film has been stopped and the project is dead -- this coming after an announcement back in April that the production was on indefinite hold. If the studio can't get a Bond film directed by Sam Mendes and written by Frost/Nixon scribe Peter Morgan off the ground, then things seem very dire indeed.
It would really suck if that was it. I like Daniel Craig. :(

Lock Jaw 08-07-2010 06:55 PM

Government bailout to save James Bond.

Droford 08-07-2010 07:12 PM

MGM sells the rights to James Bond to keep operating and some other company makes James Bond Movies

Problem solved

DAMN iNATOR 08-07-2010 07:50 PM

Looks like even Q couldn't save Bond from this mess. :(

That's the most intelligent post I've ever seen from you, but it's still not all the way correct.

Casino Royale:

Budget US$150 million
Worldwide gross US$594,239,066
Quantum of Solace:

Budget US$200 million
Worldwide gross US$586,090,727
Making that kind of money and still being up to your eyeballs in debt means either they have to liquidate a lot more than just the 007 license or they go under.

Kane Knight 08-07-2010 08:27 PM

Bond's past his prime. I've never been big on the updates, though I haven't seen the Daniel Craig movies.

Maybe no more James Bond isn't that bad.

Kinda strange how MGM scored production and distribution rights from the Broccoli family. Usually they're pretty smart with who they do business with. If anything, they'll take it in house.

Droford 08-07-2010 09:10 PM

I guess this also means no Robocop reboot?

Robocop > James Bond

lol come on

Kane Knight 08-07-2010 09:25 PM

Why do I have a feeling Bond would manage to fuck Robocop?

Rob Ban Fan 08-07-2010 09:28 PM

If you haven't seen the Daniel Craig films you should definitely watch Casino Royale. It's great, it's unlike any of the other films (especially the last few shitty Brosnan ones).

The notion that there won't be another James Bond movie is laughable in concept

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-08-2010 06:07 AM

I can say I only like Goldeneye. Most of the other Bond films I can tolerate to a certain degree, except the Roger Moore films. So, I'm not that bothered over this news. The last two bond films were basically trying to copy the Bourne films, which I found superior.

DrA 08-08-2010 06:29 AM

They've taken hiatuses with the series before. Sooner or later a new one will be made. I didn't like these Daniel Craig movie versions, so I can hold my breath.

The Destroyer 08-08-2010 06:39 AM

No matter what happens to MGM, the Bond series will continue eventually. Hopefully soon, since I don't want Daniel Craig's stint as Bond to end up going the same way as Timothy Dalton's.

YOUR Hero 08-08-2010 12:07 PM

Craig is an excellent Bond, plus the grittier style of film/story. Made me excited to see a Bond film again.

Lock Jaw 08-08-2010 02:01 PM

Didn't care for Quantum of Solace, loved Casino Royale.

Honestly haven't seen too many other Bond films. Haven't seen the majority of pre-Brosnan ones. And of the Brosnan ones, the only one I ever bothered to watch more than once/enjoyed was Goldeneye.

Jeritron 08-08-2010 02:03 PM

I too loved Casino Royale and didn't care for Quantum of Solace

Savio 08-08-2010 02:23 PM

I believe it will work it self out.

Emperor Smeat 08-08-2010 02:50 PM

Most likely MGM sells the Bond series to Colombia Pictures who has been co-producing the films with MGM since the Craig Era started.

Either Colombia Pictures or Sony Pictures (owns Colombia Pictures) will probably end up owning the series. 20th Century Fox had the chance to own the series late 2009 but didn't want to pay the $1-$2 billion in asking price for the series and a few other MGM films.

Sixx 08-09-2010 12:30 PM

Bond movies with Craig were good action movies, but sucked as "The Bond movies".

Hope it's clear.

Casino Royale had absolutely nothing in common with the Bourne movies. Quantum felt slightly similar, but Casino Royale? Felt like a damn good Bond movie the whole way through.

Miotch 08-09-2010 03:24 PM

The Bond franchise is intentionally holding out. They know that they are MGM's sole money maker, really, and by holding out they are going to force their hand into a sale. Don't worry your pretty little heads, Bond will be back.

I am mad he survived that fall.

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-22-2010 03:56 PM

It takes more than a meer 100ft fall to kill Sean Bean.

The Destroyer 08-22-2010 04:38 PM

To be fair, he didn't survive it for long.

Well the good news is that Craig is coming back as Bond in a video game at least.

JUST found out about Bond 23 slated for next year. Sweet.

Sixx 05-11-2011 02:24 AM

I don't like the Daniel Craig movies as Bond movies.

Don't get me wrong, they're cool action flicks, but there's nothing Bond about them in my opinion.

Lock Jaw 05-11-2011 02:33 AM

Except for the fact that his character is called James Bond. That's at least one thing Bond about them.

This post is so DAMNiNATOR.

D Mac 05-11-2011 06:16 AM

Well in the next one he'll be full fledged 007. No revenge on his mind and shit. Just ready to serve queen and country.

Nicky Fives 05-11-2011 10:41 AM

I haven't cared too much for Craig as Bond, but I'd still watch the new ones, simply because they are Bond movies.....
