Talk about things that are never really talked about...

For example, the turnbuckles, or maybe even the camera crew.

I've noticed that in WWE there is now only one, MAYBE two photographers at ringside anymore. Either they're really good at hiding or they've dramatically scaled back.

The Pope 08-11-2010 03:51 PM

Why is there ramps in wrestling?

Volare 08-11-2010 03:51 PM

White ropes suck.

Cool King 08-11-2010 03:56 PM

The ropes. I raised this issue a few weeks ago.

Why are the ropes on Raw white these days?

Why are they no longer red? Is red only for PPV's now?

Speaking of PPV ropes, I miss the black ropes on PPV's.

BigCrippyZ 08-11-2010 03:56 PM

Why in a No-DQ match, does the ref count when someone reaches the ropes during a submission hold? It's not like if the guy doesn't break the hold he can then be disqualified.

Cool King 08-11-2010 03:56 PM

Volare knows.

Vastardikai 08-11-2010 03:56 PM

what do you think is the thickness of the padding on the mats?

BigCrippyZ 08-11-2010 03:57 PM

Also, on the subject of ropes, I hate the white ropes too. I miss the red for RAW and the blacks for PPVs.

The Pope 08-11-2010 03:58 PM

about an inch or two. (mats)

BigCrippyZ 08-11-2010 04:00 PM

I think I remember reading around the time of the HD switch, that they were cutting back on photographers, because someone thought they were already too apparent.

The Pope 08-11-2010 04:00 PM

Why do they have photographers?

RiX1024 08-11-2010 04:01 PM

I miss the red, white and blue ropes for every shows.

BigCrippyZ 08-11-2010 04:05 PM

Why did WCW have the bright blue ring mat?

Why? really, they can just pause video and make pics out of that.

Lately for some reason, I've been paying close attention to the camera angles and shots. They seem to have four main cameras for matches. One wide shot, one that gets close-ups from afar, and the two handheld cams at ringside.

During promos, the camera guys go into the ring now. I'm not sure when that started. I remember when Piper was guest host he was cutting a promo and looked into the camera and was like "Really? You're gonna stand right there, are ya?".

They are usually quite smooth about their moves into the ring, though. I caught one entering the ring on Monday, but usually they can do it totally unseen. Like ninjas or something.

Ahh... my dream job, a ninja cameraman... if only I could afford the training

Lock Jaw 08-11-2010 04:19 PM

I think beforehand, they just got up on the apron but didn't enter the ring.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Not quite the same. The results won't be terrible, but you can get better shots with a regular camera.

I suppose a bigger question to me is why even worry about their presence? WWE is supposed to be a sport, as far as Kayfabe goes. NFL and NBA have cameramen, so why not fake wrestling that pretends to be real wreslting? I mean, it's best if they're out of the way, but it's hardly breaking the fourth wall by noticing them.

What do you suppose the announcers' desk is made out of? How much do you think it costs? They go through them a lot. Would it be breaking kayfabe if WWE started making them so they had snap joints so they could be re-assembled after a wrestler was put through it? Would it be hilarious if one night they broke it and rebuilt it in every match?

Storer50 08-11-2010 05:09 PM

Why don't they use the big blue cage anymore?

VSG 08-11-2010 05:10 PM

I think the monitors on the table cost more than the table itself.

Chain link is lighter, easier to repair, and has more give.

They sold the rights to TNA and are still laughing about it.

They're made to collapse, which is why they rarely actually snap but give way. And they're reusable.

There was a thread about how much certain equipment cost a couple months back.

BigDaddyCool 08-11-2010 05:29 PM

What is Rhino up to these days?

VSG 08-11-2010 05:30 PM

Also not as obtrusive to the camera as big blue bars.

Snowden 08-11-2010 06:14 PM

How much do you think the hair/makeup person for Raw makes? There must be somebody who works on the divas, not to mention the time it takes to do Sheamus' hair and Goldust's face paint.

Xero 08-11-2010 06:18 PM

Goldust does his own face paint, according to his Twitter.

Cool King 08-11-2010 06:27 PM

Yeah, I've known that for a while now.

I didn't know he had a Twitter account though.

Xero 08-11-2010 06:28 PM

http://twitter.com/WWEGoldust

He's actually one of the more active wrestlers on there.

thedamndest 08-11-2010 06:35 PM

Shawn Michaels is bad at the internet.
