Where do you see MMA/UFC in the next 5 years?

2011-
2012-
2013-
2014-
2015-

I will add my thoughts later

Funky Fly 09-17-2010 11:36 PM

2011- popular
2012- peak popularity
2013- riddled with scandals, corruption and 5234652345 weight classes because the fighters are all cowards
2014- replaced in popularity by actual modern day gladiators fighting to the death
2015- gladiators with laser swords

it'll probably get really really boring soon when everyone cottons onto the fact the ufc rules and the octagon favour wrestlers something silly, and every championship match will end up being one guy lying on top of the other not really attacking for a very long time.

That trend is starting to end. Brock and GSP are the only champions who really use there wrestling to win fights. Edgar stands and boxes, so does Silva and Rua. And only one of those guys has a background in wrestling. Spending hours learning how to wrestle becomes useless once the guy across from you learns enough to stuff takedowns. And than wrestlers will get picked apart. C'mon now, Chuck Liddel taught us this 4 years ago.

If Maynard wins the belt the sport is going to hell.

IC Champion 09-18-2010 02:45 PM

Even is Maynard wins, I don't see him having a long riegn. He's too one dimensional, all Edgar needs to do is stuff his takedowns and he'll win.

2011-Still the same
2012-Fedor v Lesnar
2013-New York gets passed for fights
2014-Lack of stars
2015-Mediocrity

Crimson 09-18-2010 11:38 PM

I see a women's division somewhere in there.. :shifty:

Stickman 09-18-2010 11:50 PM

2015-So many better young fighters start to emerge adding a new dynamic to the sport.

There are already women in MMA. Never going to happen in the UFC tho. Dana White thinks it's too much of a sideshow.

I'm telling you guys: gladiators avec laser swords.

The Mask 09-20-2010 03:44 AM

i think it is pointless having a womans division in the ufc at this point in time. there are like about 5 good women fighters tops, and it can't help them trying to get it sanctioned in places like new york.

The Mask 09-20-2010 03:44 AM

plus ufc crowds seem wildly misogynistic too.

Funky Fly 09-20-2010 03:56 AM

I've seen some good women's fights. Grappling matches are awesome because you'll see a situation where if it were dudes, one of them would be horribly fucked, but because they are girls, the chick in the submission will do some ridiculous escape via flexibility.

The Mask 09-20-2010 04:05 AM

fucking bints. i keep an eye out for rosi sexton's fights since she used to train where i did, though i never met her. saw some documentary in avec her too. she got sparked out with a nasty knee not so long ago :'(

ughhhh

Funky Fly 09-20-2010 04:53 AM

Her foot work is sketchy. Plus that knee was really unfortunate. Put her hands down a split second too quick and ate it. Then again, who jumps around with their head down for that long?

The Mask 09-20-2010 05:00 AM

yeah she had her head down for waaaay too long there. was practically begging to be kneed. i don't know who she trains with anymore though cause apparently she was in a relationship avec my old main trainer guy. so maybe she's just gone awful through lack of coaching.
