Smackdown! really feels like the B show right now

I like Edge and all, but it just feels like SD! is really lacking. Plus I just don't buy Kane being a credible champion at the moment. It really feels like WWE Lite. On paper, a Kane vs. Edge feud should be good enough, but it feels like it's still lacking something.

So yeah, there's a huge void now that The Undertaker is gone.

And what's up with Jack Swagger missing in action? The WHC did nothing for him. Also CM Punk being gone, is another blow to SD!

I noticed that nobody cared enough to post the SD! Spoilers thread for last week

If there was one star you could pick from RAW to go to SD! who would it be?

I haven't been watching smackdown much these last few months still. Maybe i'm just getting older/less interested, i dunno!

XL 11-17-2010 07:25 PM

SD has always (and probably always will be) the B show. This is not new to anybody. Even when Heyman was booking it took a backseat to Raw. It is however the better of the 2 shows from a wrestling standpoint.

BizarroKing 11-17-2010 07:30 PM

SD! is building itself back up since their move to SyFy

Jeritron 11-17-2010 08:08 PM

The only time Smackdown wasn't blatantly the B-Show was probably 2002-03. When they had The Rock, and later on Brock Lesnar, they were definitely making an attempt at establishing it as an equal.
With Brock there, it may have even been the A-Show in a lot of ways.

That didn't last very long though. Since then it's clearly been secondary when it comes to priority. Not in quality though, it's still had some great runs where it was even better than Raw.

MoFo 11-17-2010 08:11 PM

I'd draft Cena to Smackdown.

Anybody Thrilla 11-17-2010 08:32 PM

Who gives a fuck if it's the B show? I like it. The matches are usually intense.

Droford 11-17-2010 08:44 PM

Smackdown is the two time defending Bragging Rights Champion..

plus they traded Punk to RAW and he's hurt so they won the trade.

I already know that SD! was always considered the B show. It just feels even more now, borderline C show, especially now that Taker and Punk are gone

SOCCER LEGS 11-17-2010 09:28 PM

i agree. smackdown has really sucked lately. i used to abstain from looking at the spoilers because i would try to watch it friday before i went out. now i don't even care.

Mr Amazing 11-17-2010 09:29 PM

i can see orton winning at survivor series and cena being keyfabe fired and signing a new contract with smackdown and being the one to take the belt off kane

The Naitch 11-17-2010 09:31 PM

Reading Spoilers before watching the show can affect your opinion on SD! SD! could easily be on the same level as RAW if they made it live. Or if it was like in 2000, when there was no brand split, and SD! was just a continuation of Monday's RAW that week

Just like when I used to watch wrestling before the internet came along. It was also way more fun being a wrestling fan as a mark, not knowing abot backstage stuff etc etc

Anybody Thrilla 11-17-2010 09:32 PM

I still don't understand why people read spoilers for shows they plan on watching.

like driving by looking at a car accident, you can't help but to look at it

I'll never understand the "I can't watch it cuz it's not live" mentality.

It must suck not having a DVR or access to YouTube or torrent sites

I have a DVR. I actually DVR it too, but I tend to forget about it. When I remember, I do watch it.

Mr. Nerfect 11-17-2010 10:30 PM

I've been enjoying SmackDown!. They've been pushing Big Show and Edge as big deals, and those are two guys who could be major stars on RAW. You've also got Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker and Kane on the roster.

I think they're going to try and build Jack Swagger up as a monster face soon enough. Don't ask me why, but I can just see them doing it. Also, I've got a feeling Kaval will be going places sooner rather than later. Neither may be "huge stars," but I think it'll freshen the show up a bit.

If I could pick one big star to go to SmackDown!, it'd probably be Sheamus right now. Of all the former World Champions on RAW, I just think he'd be the one who'd fit best on the blue brand. John Cena seems to have plans locking him through WrestleMania; as does Randy Orton. Sheamus seems to be floating around. Have Triple H also return to SmackDown!, and have that feud take place over there (away from the World Heavyweight Title).

Volare 11-17-2010 11:41 PM

So let me see if I'm right on this, the #1 face on SD is Edge, with 2 being Mysterio or Big Show and the #1 heel is Kane, with #2 being......Ziggler or Swagger or Del Rio.

Ultra Mantis 11-18-2010 01:25 PM

Smackdown just lacks the big angles compared to Raw. The matches are the best WWE puts out on TV (though Superstars gives it a run for it's money) and there's a hotbed of talent on there. Swagger, Rhodes, Ziggler, Del Rio, Kaval, Mysterio, Edge, Kofi, MVP, Christian etc. They could use a "big name" guy I guess, they could use Orton, HHH or even Batista just for the name value.

Can't you look at a list of the things you recorded and realize it's on there?

Triple Naitch 11-18-2010 02:54 PM

I only read the spoilers the SmackDown before the PPV so I can get Tipsters up early. Which will be posted tonight, btw.

I would like to see Sheamus or Barrett move to SD in the new year. It seems like Sheamus has already worked enough with the big faces and it's time to get him some new competition. Him or Barrett could easily be set up for a Wrestlemania match with Undertaker upon their arrival.

Anybody Thrilla 11-18-2010 02:55 PM

Is Sheamus really a big enough to star to make Smackdown look more credible?

Triple Naitch 11-18-2010 03:00 PM

I watch SmackDown every week so I don't care if he can make it more credible. I just wanna see him work with new guys.

Anybody Thrilla 11-18-2010 03:02 PM

I'm all for that.

Tommy Gunn 11-18-2010 03:03 PM

In 2006/2007 Smackdown was my favourite show, but the roster is a lot different now and definitely feels like a B show.

I watch most of Raw, but lately I seem to fast-forward through most of Smackdown or read the spoilers.

Anybody Thrilla 11-18-2010 03:06 PM

There's a chance you may enjoy something upon viewing it, even if it doesn't sound great on paper. That's why I don't understand reading spoilers first. I feel like I've had this conversation about thirty times already with people here, though.

Anybody Thrilla 11-18-2010 03:07 PM

Matches are definitely better when you don't know who's going to win, too. That's a given, right?

Emperor Smeat 11-18-2010 06:11 PM

Except for the few weeks or months after each WWE draft when Smackdown gets raided badly, majority of the time Smackdown was considered good was due to Vince and the WWE letting the writers do their own thing and not force stuff like they were doing on RAW.

While it meant a lack of main event big name wrestlers, it did let Smackdown focus more on wrestling itself and developing the mid-card or more wrestlers than RAW was doing for years.

dronepool 11-18-2010 07:17 PM

I watch it sometimes. I prefer live because it just feels a bit more on the edge and they can't edit shit if something happens or is said that can't be. Being on Friday is a bit iffy. I rarely get hyped to see SD. Sometimes I forget that its on or other times I just don't feel like watching it. There's been times when its been on and I just say fuck it and play PS3.

I think one way to make it "more important" is to get rid of the blue theme and use something more RAW like and just have most wrestlers pop in here and there and stop being "brand 2" and start being more like an extention of RAW just with more SD guys.

Jeritron 11-18-2010 08:35 PM

Yea, the Friday night slot kills me. I wish it was still Thursday.
I realize I can find it online later, but I don't really enjoy watching a 2 hour wrestling show on my computer with other distractions.
I don't have DVR right now.

The Naitch 11-18-2010 08:42 PM

did SD! ever beat RAW in the ratings?

shut the hell up XL, I did my research on this already :P

BigCrippyZ 11-19-2010 12:32 AM

It never really "felt" like a B show to me up until the roster split even though I "knew" it was the B show.

dronepool 11-19-2010 12:58 AM

Allowing more superstars to crossover would make SD a lot better IMO. The roster split sorta contributes to that "other show" feel. If Triple H or Cena or anybody who has some extra time can come to SD and start some shit, it would feel a bit more "fluid"

IMO the live SD on October 1st was pretty good because of the "unpredictability" of who might pop up. If this was the case say at least 48 out of 52 weeks- SD would be a lot more intense.
