This Forums Fascination With CM Punk

I honestly don't get it at all. To me, he is just another JBL, or even a Taz. His jokes are not funny, and to be honest, his voice annoys the shit out of me. So let's hear it, why are you all cumming in your pants everytime he speaks.

VSG 12-14-2010 07:37 PM

Well seeing your rep status, clearly your opinions are not similar to the majority of the members here. Does that explain it?

SOCCER LEGS 12-14-2010 07:38 PM

CM punk can do no wrong in the eyes of the IWC.

also, you're a dumbass.

Lara Emily 12-14-2010 07:38 PM

You also think TNA is amazing so what's your point.

Schlomey 12-14-2010 07:43 PM

Yes I don't feel the need to go into detail here.....My answer is...Just because...Like I tell me young child.

teamXtremist 12-14-2010 07:46 PM

So who do you guys support? Tell us why the wrestlers you enjoy are better than punk.

dhellova guy 12-14-2010 08:47 PM

Seriously?

So people like CM Punk. You like to jerk off to Tom Cruise, SK Champ. No one is judging you for it, it just is what it is.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-14-2010 09:02 PM

Seems to be a pretty big backlash of hate here but I'll actually try to answer this seriously.

I love CM Punk because he's one of the few guys in the mainstream promotions that gets it. And by it I mean everything. He understands how wrestling is supposed to work. He understands heat. He understands build. He understands delivery. He understands pace. He understands how fortunate he is to be in his position and he's not gonna fuck it up. He understands the importance of the history of the business and the guys that came before him. He understands how to work marks. He understands how to work smarks. He just gets it.

And on top of all that he's really good at what he does. So for those reasons and more, I  CM Punk.

CSL 12-14-2010 09:11 PM

There is a bit of a love-in for him on here, 'omg that was greatest footstep anybody has ever taken' during his entrance or 'LOLLLLL Punk' before he's opened his mouth or something but it's not really any different from any of the other 'darlings' really, he's just maybe the top one. He's a 'smart' wrestler aka his opinions/view of the business appear to be similar to those of the 'smart mark', they feel maybe he 'gets it' so he possibly 'validates' some people (for example, I bet if most folk here could choose a wrestler to sit down and talk to about 'the business', the runaway choices would be Punk and Danielson, as well as Chris Jericho) he was a smash on the indies with support and it's followed him to the 'big leagues' so for quite a few it's like talking to somebody about that band you knew before they 'made it' and he can do 'funny' well, which just about everybody likes no matter who you are. Not to mention he is very good at his job.

CSL 12-14-2010 09:14 PM

Gonna start pre-booking a spot for posts in the future, like 'THIS SPOT IS RESERVED FOR THE OPINIONS OF TPWW POSTER CSL' or something.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-14-2010 09:19 PM

do u wanna just combine accounts

The opinions are correct... Well, as correct as an opinion can be anyway. I'm pretty sure he's the first modern indy guy to make it really big. When I say modern, I mean post fall of WCW/ECW. yeah, other guys have done decent (Samoa Joe), but no other indy darling has done as well as Punk has.

Hell, comparatively, as far as making it big, he may have done better than any other indy wrestler going back to ECW. He's definitely done better in WWE than RVD and Taz did.

But yeah, ultimately, CM Punk does "get it." There's a lot of little things he does that work. It's the attention to detail.

There are only 3 things better than CM Punk...

Purgatory 12-14-2010 09:31 PM

The fact that he's ad-libbing almost most of the time he's on commentary shows that they've got faith in what he's doing. I, for one, think he's doing a tremendous job and compliments the position.

I definately agree that he really didn't shine till he turned heel and brought life to his character. The scene with Mysterio's kids was awe-inspiring, as far as heelishness goes.

I wonder if he's seeing how far he can push things. Wearing the Colt shirt, hinting at Alex Riley's DUI, wearing a Charles Manson shirt...It's great though. He comes off like he doesn't give a fuck, which is how his character should come off.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-14-2010 09:48 PM

I figure if Jesse Ventura or Bobby Heenan was doing commentary nowadays they'd probably have a similar approach. Which of course is another reason why Punk is a good thing.

A lot of people with similar tastes congregate at TPWW. That's just how communities work. If people had nothing in common they wouldn't stick together.

TPWW has it's share of differing opinions, but for the most part the majority of posters hold similar qualities valuable in a wrestler.
That's probably why you will find a lot of people on this site with a love for 90s wrestling, or certain wrestlers (Punk, Jericho, Miz, HBK, etc.)

I don't think it's something in the water making us zombies

Jeritron 12-14-2010 11:51 PM

It should be noted that as far as I know, almost everyone who posts regularly on TPWW is in the same age range too.
Posters from different generations or schools of wrestling fandom don't tend to hang around.

It's not that they can't. I just think TPWW has an identity of it's own and people either like it or not.

SaskatchewanChamp 12-14-2010 11:58 PM

Well, it is either they ALL think alike, which is very unlikely, or like I said SHEEP. Don't want to be rejected by the "in" posters that are here.

Jeritron 12-15-2010 12:00 AM

You referred to TPWW as a single entity. I'm simply addressing what you seem to be talking about. Nobody has to like CM Punk, and I'm pretty sure there are plenty of accepted posters who readily disagree with eachother.

I'm speaking generally about how this forum, or any forum, tends to have a similar foundation of interest. It's what you asked for.

i don't think anyone "hates" these people... but most of us are smart enough to realize that none of them have the capacity to run a wrestling organization. (see: WCW)

My Final Heaven 12-15-2010 01:01 AM

He's boned a reasonable list of ¨relevant¨ Divas. It's hero-worship for his sexual virility.

The Naitch 12-15-2010 01:09 AM

CM Punk (the character and the person) has that coolness factor. Scott Hall says to be a star you gotta be someone that guys want to be like, and someone who women want to be with.

CM Punk embodies that. He makes guys like Matt & Jeff Hardy look like total losers. Shane Helmes comes off like a loser too. Same with Shannon Moore. That group of North Carolina guys (I believe they're all friends) And they're no longer with WWE. No guy wants to be like them. Some girls might like them, but they're probably fat.

Rammsteinmad 12-15-2010 01:13 AM

Coz CM Punk is better than us.

Mr. Nerfect 12-15-2010 01:14 AM

I like the arguments about CM Punk "getting it." The guy signed off his independent wrestling identity to the WWE, and is one of those guys who really wants to be there. He's not going to leave because he's not allowed to be as creative as he wants -- the guy has worked to the point where he has actually been given creative control over his character and programs, to some degree.

In the ring, Punk can flat-out work. He's got an interesting style, which allows him to be believable for his size, and he can tell a great story. On the mic, the guy can promo as well as anyone in the WWE can. He's got confidence, delivery and he can get heat. He's also got presence, too. Punk can just stand there and somehow look evil. Or he can look smug. Or he can look amazed to be where he is.

On commentary, he's quite entertaining. He's a throwback to many classic heel announcers, but at the same time isn't stepping on Cole's toes and is actually often taking the side of the faces for the sake of balance and putting them over. Ultimately, I think his stint in commentary will allow him to return as a "respected heel," to the point where he might be forced to turn face if he wasn't so good at getting people to hate him. And that works for the WWE, because "cool heels" can sell merchandise more than a bad guy we are not meant to want anything to do with. Truthfully, I cannot think of many people in the WWE that are more charismatic than Punk. And that charisma is evidenced in the women he bangs.

i agree with the second part of this, but i don't think scott hall is in any position to be giving out words of wisdom.

My Final Heaven 12-15-2010 01:17 AM

Srsly, the guy's like the John Mayer of the wrestling world. Every time he gets with a new chick, it's like he Trades Up with how much in the public eye she is.

Allison Danger < Daffney < Maria Kanellis < Lita - and I would bet money, even if it's not common knowledge, Kelly Kelly & Mickie James are in there also.

So yeah, all the Punk love amounts to ¨OMFG, HE TOTALLY DID MARIA!! I WANNA BE HIM, HE`S SO AWESOME!!1!¨ At least it seems to me.

bleh, probably gonna get the fuck flamed out of me for this.
