"Mean" Gene Okerlund

"Confidential" was canned. What do you think about that? And what should they do with Mean Gene? Fire him? Work him in somewhere else? Do you think there's a place for him, and where? Personally, I'd like to see him used in some way. Maybe backstage interviews or in-ring interviews? I just hope he doesn't disappear.

CBright7831 04-25-2004 01:07 AM

I agree. Bastage interviews. Who was that no name they had on Monday to meet Triple H?

PureHatred 04-25-2004 01:11 AM

Backstage interviews. He's the best. and he's far more recognizable then all these generic cookie cutter clowns they keep throwing at us.

MVP 04-25-2004 01:18 AM

Agreed, Okerland is the man on the stick backstage.

I think he's too old to be on TV at this point. Visually he just looks wrong for WWE TV.

However they can still use him in a couple of ways. First, he can be used for WWE DVDs', acting as a host for things like "From The Vault" releases.

He can also be a key part of the 24/7 deal they are going to be starting. Figure he's been around for most of the footage, so he'd be the logcial guy to introduce it and talk over it.

:y: :y:

I like that. Okerlund's voice is gold.

I disagree. If you can have Ric Flair in the ring, then Mene Gene can be backstage. His voice is gold and he's distinguishable, while all these other backstage interviewers are bland and dull.

It's sad to admit, but I kinda miss Coach as an interviewer. :nono:

Shaggy 04-25-2004 02:05 AM

Backstage Interviews definently. They need to keep him around. Mean Gean is one of the best. It was great that he finally had a job again with Confidential but with it canned there went that thing. Hopefully they will keep him around for something. Perhaps put him on Raw or Smackdown so the people can see him more.

CBright7831 04-25-2004 02:19 AM

Remember when Gene told Bischoff that had he not screwed up WCW they might be celebrating a 10 anniversary for Nitro instead of RAW?

That was gold, awesome, and somewhat true.

James Steele 04-25-2004 03:22 AM

Note:

Eric Bishoff had a Vince Russo mask on, but that was edited out....

Anyway, I think he would be great for backstage interviews on both RAW and SmackDown!. When i think backstage interviews I think of Mene Gene... I know the guy is old, but he has a legacy that is one of a kind on the interview side of the equation.

If not noth RAW and SD!, then have him on RAW. He is great on LIVE tv...and we might see "Oh...F*ck It" II

Yup, beautiful.

I don't know if he could do weekly shows, maybe just PPV's. I kinda doubt he'd still be interested in doing weekly shows anymore but I don't know.

CBright7831 04-25-2004 03:24 AM

Does someone have that audio or video?!?!?!?

James Steele 04-25-2004 03:50 AM

CBright, Your Icon Brings Back The Few Things That Made The InVasion angle watchable:

Anyway... i just got an idea of what Mene Gene can do....

He could become heel and attack all the "face" young crappy no-talent interviewers because they have not payed there dues and Mene Gene gets screwed...

I can see it now:

WrestleMania 21

"Mene" Gene Okurland v. Todd Pettingill (Winner Co-Hosts The WWE Experience)

BAH GAWD: The drawing power of Mene Gene will be known to all...

***Anyone remember a sign that said "I Came Here To See "Mene" Gene on Monday Nitro in like 98?

TazroK 04-25-2004 11:56 AM

I am actually sad Confidential is over. I use to look forward to RAW and it, every week.

I hope he stays. Mean Gene kicks ass. "**** it" (From that 1 video).

Savio 04-25-2004 12:04 PM

what makes him mean?

I think its different.

Backstage annoucners today aren't what they used to be. Now they are just props to hold the microphone, whereas back in the day the interviewer had to add to the segment. So if they are just going to be props they might as well be appealing to look at. If they ever want to change, then yeah bring back Gene, but I dont see that happening.

Shadow 04-25-2004 05:26 PM

Mean Gean is the man of the backstage interview. Even I know that. Personally, I thought he was wasted on Confidential though he did a good job of it. I so wanted some Mean Gean interviews myself because he's the man of asking the really good questions. But that's just me.

James Steele 04-25-2004 05:32 PM

Damn it....

Nobody likes my WrestleMania 21 Storyline idea?

Anyway,

Mean Gene would be perfect for "classic" DVD's and stuff (whoever said that was right)

CBright7831 04-25-2004 06:19 PM

"You're not talking to some jabroni." - Mene Gene

Rock, you were not the first one to say that.

Make him their ring announcer or a backstage interviewer.

Evolution 04-25-2004 09:49 PM

Whatever happened to Todd Pettingill? He was awesome!

CBright7831 04-25-2004 11:08 PM

I hated Pettingill. Everytime he appeared on my screen I would turn it off.
