Sid...didnt make it big? (Sid thread)

The legends say that Sid never made it big in professional wrestling... did I miss something? The man was a multi time world heavyweight champion, in several diffrent promotions, and main evented WCW untill he broke his leg. Would you say that he didnt make it big in professional wrestling?

Post some of your favorite Sid moments/ matches

Destor 12-30-2010 03:59 PM

SId was HEAVILY pushed everywhere he went...but never got over anywhere...eh...baby face run late WCW when no one was watching maybe. I can see the argument. (He totally made it big just sayin I see the argument.)

Rammsteinmad 12-30-2010 04:07 PM

He made it big, but he was never the face of the company.

Rammsteinmad 12-30-2010 04:09 PM

Not sure if my post actually makes sense...

When I think about the WWF around the time when Sid was champion, I instantly think of Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Mankind etc.

When I think about WCW around the time when Sid was champion, I instantly think about Goldberg, Sting, Booker T and Jeff Jarrett.

Sid was pushed in every major company and given world title runs, but even when Sid was the champion, the company he worked for still had someone else in mind as the main face of their brand.

D Mac 12-30-2010 04:17 PM

!

Tazz Dan 12-30-2010 04:21 PM

I know what you mean. He was a multi-time world champ, but if you were asked to name the all time greats he'd very rarely pop up in anyones top 10.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-30-2010 04:23 PM

He was the same as Big Show. Could be booked like a prick for months, but if you wanted a threat for the title, he could easily be bought as one.

D Mac 12-30-2010 04:26 PM

He was incredibly over as a face. I remember seeing him a couple of times and he got one of the biggest pops both times.

Also, I fist bumped him once!

This.Just his size and the way they always put over his powerbomb, he was always a main event level guy, just never really the focus of the main event. He was there more to put the guy over who was facing him by being the 7ft monster.

The Naitch 12-30-2010 04:39 PM

Wolfpac is the best theme song ever

The Naitch 12-30-2010 04:44 PM

when Sid said that you have half the brain that I do, did he screw that up on purpose, or does he really stink at remembering his lines? Like was he just playing along with it, like how Tony Chimmel says Rated R SOUPerstar? Was Nitro live, I figured they'd edit that

D Mac 12-30-2010 04:50 PM

Yeah he did that on purpose. :shifty:

Supreme Olajuwon 12-30-2010 04:56 PM

Was a big Sid fan in WWF. Never liked his WCW run though.

Emperor Smeat 12-30-2010 05:20 PM

I liked Sid as a kid watching WWF especially his Psycho Sid character but I can see why people say he never "made it big" in terms of legends or very memorable career.

He either got over-shadowed over time or never staid long enough in a few companies to create that feeling of a Hogan, HBK, or Stone Cold style career.

Schlomey 12-30-2010 05:20 PM

He made it big, in my opinion, however I don't believe he was ever really deserving.

The Naitch 12-30-2010 05:27 PM

He was never "big" because he is a walking living breathing botchfest. His peers probably don't take him seriously and don't respect him. Wonder if his stabbing Arn Anderson had anything to do with it?

Sid indeed made it big, but could have made it bigger

(LOL look at the jobber no-sell the chokeslam @ 03:59)

Supreme Olajuwon 12-30-2010 05:43 PM

The following people have main evented multiple WrestleManias:
Hulk Hogan
Randy Savage
Yokozuna
Bret Hart
The Undertaker
Shawn Michaels
Steve Austin
The Rock
Triple H
John Cena
Sid

YoungFlyFlashy 12-30-2010 07:33 PM

In 1996 when the fans were tired of the "white meat" baby face Sid could of gone over, but sadly, a guy by the name of Stone Cold Steve Austin stole his thunder, and also has a tremendous better chemistry with Bret then Sid had with Shawn, other than that I don't really remember Sid being truly over, hell I still remember WM 13 and how awful it was.

TazFTW86 12-30-2010 08:30 PM

Sid was a beast...1 of my favorites...especially the whole physco gymick....probably 1 of the best debuts in original ECW history..

Awesome. They should of used his WWE theme, the place would of exploded for real. I'm sure Vince wouldn't of sued them over it.

SOCCER LEGS 12-30-2010 10:36 PM

they also mention hall and nash as underachievers, btw

I agree with Hall being one but not Nash. I did it all during his time in WWE and in WCW, but Hall yeah man, he could of be great in singles.

YoungFlyFlashy 12-31-2010 12:28 AM

Irony about that round table is that I have always thought that Ted was an underachiever.

If I were to give Sid:

A Piece of Paper
A Pencil
And a Dime.

He would still be unable to draw a dime.

He knows how to use scissors however.

CSL 12-31-2010 02:40 AM

He may not draw a dime but he'd still rule the world with the piece of paper alone.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-31-2010 02:55 AM

I think Sid might be my favorite jobber squasher ever. Had one of the best post match rituals too.

Juan 12-31-2010 03:05 AM

I loved Sid during his WWF title run and in ECW, but by the time he was "the man" in WCW, I had almost completely lost interest in WCW.

Thunder Savage Go 12-31-2010 05:19 AM

What the fuck is up with his grunting during matches it always got annoying.

D Mac 12-31-2010 07:33 AM

He is the MASTER. And you people are but the learners.

Fox 12-31-2010 09:46 AM

He's twice the man we are, and has half the brain that we do.

didn't watch Sid in ECW, but yes, loved him in WWF. Well didn't love him, I hated him, but it a good way. I did like his early 90 WCW run too. His feud with Sting and his alliance with Vader was awesome. His horsemen days were pretty decent as well.

I agree by 1999/2000, he had run his course. That whole Macho Man alliance thing really didn't interest me.

I guess by what your saying would Edge fall into that Sid category? He's a milti time champ, but in 20 years do you think he'll be remember as one of the biggest stars of the 2000s?

Sid with a squeegee is epic
