Have never played one of the titles, which would be the best one to get? Heard Sims 3 was pretty fun.

Depends on how much you want to spend. If money is no object (or you're going to be pirating) just gets Sims 3 (never played it but I'm assuming it's better). If you want to be able to get the FULL game now (all expansions) then gets Sims 2.

They're really going insane with the expansions and mini-packs this time around, and it's really put me off from Sims 3. They're releasing a set every other month. It got like that near the end of Sims 2's run, but it's just ridiculous now.

Then what does it even matter? Get all of them and try each one. You get the feel of each game within an hour of gameplay anyway.

I know I can get all of them, I justed want to know what to play.

I have Sims 2. It pisses me off, as my sim sees way more action than I ever do. So I get peevish and kill off my sim's love interest and watch him fall into a quivering mess. I am a bastard.

Play them in order and the story will make a lot more sense.

but yeah, the sims 3 has all the expansion packs constantly, too, but it seems like they're mostly downloadable content now
