Good, Trusted And Free Anti-Virus Software?
I seem to have gotten a virus today but I have no idea how I managed to get it.
I know I have a virus because my keyboard skips letters when I type and also, I get the classic pop-ups. I downloaded Avast and tried a scan with that but it found nothing, so I uninstalled it and tried AVG but that also found nothing. I don't know why they didn't find anything when I have seen the virus at work right infront of me. I'm still experiencing the effects of the virus right now. So I'm all out of ideas for more free anti-virus software and I thought Avast and AVG were good ones but they can't be that great if they can't detect an obvious virus. :-\ Does anyone know of any other good, trusted and free anti-virus software? |

Free antivirus programs will only go so far, the paid ones offer more complete protection (virus, trojans, worms etc) and have a more comprehensive database to search from. Why is a "paid" program so ethically challenging to you?
An alternative for this one case would be to use a few internet based scanners to identify the virus and either use them to remove it, or once you got the name, google it up to find the nerd way to remove it. Usually a lot tougher. |
Well I'm a student who makes very little money and I really can't afford to spend £85 (Around $132) on software. :-\
But I seem to have gotten it fixed anyway. I downloaded Malwarebytes which managed to catch everything. I think it was actually Spyware I had, and not a virus. Thanks though for the help guys. :y: |
I've been using a trio of SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition, Spybot - Search & Destroy, and Malwarebytes. I used to run all three but lately Super and Spybot seem to get everything because when I run Malwarebytes it says nothing is detected.

Well when I referred to the ethics aspect of it, I meant a "download" if you know what I mean. Most students I know have some of the other database of software available to them.

I went from AVG free to Microsoft Security Essentials 2 a month ago, and I can't remember the last time I got a virus, in fact I have never had a virus infect any of my PCs. |
