iPod
Who has one?
What are the pros and cons? I heard something about nobody knowing how to change the battery once it eventually dies. 15-GB Apple iPod: £234.99 - Should I buy it? |
Yeah, the battery thing is somewhat of a major issue. And that 15 gig one is meant to be a bit on the dodgy side as well, for other reasons (that I can't remember, d'oh).
Personally I'd shop around. My 30 gig Creative Labs player cost me £200. The interface and software isn't quite as good as the iPod, but I've had no real issues with it that weren't easily fixed. iPods may be good, but they're sickeningly expensive. Either way though, large capacity MP3 players are excellent. :y: |
Shop around. I've heard so many gripes about Ipod I have trouble holding anny faith in them.

<font color="#99CCFF">I got an iPod, but it's probably best to shop around if you don't have the money to waste ;)

I got an iPod in the US when on holiday seeing my relatives. Its pretty cool but yeah shockingly expensive though much cheaper over there at the moment due to the exchange rate. I got a 20gig one for about £215 over there. The battery meter is pretty shit and the battery thing is dodgy i hear yeah. I think if it gets ****ed within warranty you can get it replaced for free but otherwise its $99 or something.
|
Of course, the allegation is that they designed the batter to pretty much just outlive the warranty, so they could slap you with the service charges...
My portable (Archo Jukebox) just uses Double A rechargables. |
I was thinking of get one but it's too much expense for a dodgy piece of equipment.
Wait a while and Sony or Microsoft will come out with a better one, with no shitty problems. |
I have one, it's good for what it is but the battery life seems to slowly die around 9/10 months. You can get a replacement battery for like $ 50 but there are a lot of other options out there... A friend of mine has an iriver which is a little more expensive than a 15 gig ipod but it's a lot better with battery life and a lot easier to transfer files from a computer.
|
I got an RCA Lyra 256meg one for 200 bucks canadian then I bought a 10 gig expansion card for another 100 bucks (on sale) so it's pretty nifty, I've never had a problem with it, battery life is only about 10 hours per AAA battery, but whatever.
|
I looked at buying an ipod. - In the end I went with a Sony MZN510L Minidisc, runs on 1 AA rechargeble battery, I reckon I got ten hours play time before it went flat. The software is a bit shit, but still useable. If you are copying files off your computer it has an annoying habit of rearranging them, even if they in album folders( I put 3 COB albums off my HD and the bugger mixed them all up). If you copy off CD they stay in the same format though.
Anyway get a Minidisc player. :y: |
Minidisc players are crap compared to MP3 players. :p

I just saw one of these in Wal-Mart yesterday. |
Hmm, I didn't know those things even existed. I still prefer MP3 players though, saves carrying loads of discs around.
|
Yeah, my Drive-based MP3 player's smaller than most walkman cassette players are.

On the other hand, I like the idea of MP3-CDs, because they provide pretty much unlimited space, as long as you can deal with no more than 700MB/playlist...:d

Mini disk player are better IMO

When there's a 50GB minidisc player...Then we'll talk.

Sometimes I like the thing and sometimes I just want to toss it into a fk'n wall. I swear that sh** just doesn't respond sometimes and wont turn on. And sometimes when I go to load songs to it from my comp, the fk'n thing shuts my computer down by itslef. It's probably possessed. Buy hey, it's dam cool if it works right. :)

The only problem is the lack of expansion for a HD-based player. I've spent hours trying to clean up my HD so I could put more music on, and I've got enough room for a couple of albums' worth of music, but nothing much for all that work. :| With a MD or CD-based player, at least you can scrap a disc and start over. |
