Impact to start touring?

From PWInsider:

TNA Impact will be taped for the first time in North Carolina next month, PWInsider.com has confirmed.

Fayetteville, NC (which would be the hometown of Matt and Jeff Hardy) has been mentioned to me as the most likely location, although Charlotte was mentioned as a possibility as well.

There has been talk for some time about taking Impact out of Orlando for some time in order to test how the product would fare in front of different audiences. The Orlando audience has developed something of a reputation for being jaded after so many years of getting a number of free TV tapings and PPVs a month. I don't believe a PPV goes by without a TNA talent openly wondering to me how a match that had trouble getting over in Orlando might have fared in another market before fans that were paying for the product.

The lone episode of Impact taped outside of Orlando was a live special at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas, featuring the debut of the Main Event Mafia. Beyond that, every episode of Impact to date has been filmed in Orlando, dating back to the series debut in May 2004.

I am under the impression the move to NC would be something of a test to see how the tapings would fare outside of Orlando and would be something done in addition to using the Impact Zone, which TNA leases annually from Universal Studios Orlando.

...if they started touring, how would the wrestlers who left the WWE because of the touring schedule react?

Shisen Kopf 01-13-2011 09:16 AM

I read this wrong. I thought it said Impact to start boring? Cos i was gonna say, whats new?

ThePhantom 01-13-2011 09:19 AM

Anything to get them away from the Sheep at Universal Studios. They ruin almost every angle by cheering heels and booing faces.

MoFo 01-13-2011 09:40 AM

I thought they would of took advantage of the ECW angle back in the summer and done more shows in Philly & New York tbh. Missed opportunity.

jskinnyg 01-13-2011 10:11 AM

Them boys are from Cameron, NC... Far away from Fayetteville...

I believe they have house shows built in to their contracts. I think the best idea is to start in their biggest markets and just tape it as if it had already been sch for house shows. If the wrestlers wanna work, they'll work. If not then I guess they would either be cut or just not get paid.

Loose Cannon 01-13-2011 10:24 AM

I wonder where they would hold it in Charlotte. prob not at Time Warner Arena (i.e. the biggest arena here). Probably in shitty Bojangles Coliseum.

Xero 01-13-2011 10:25 AM

What's a good mid-sized high school gym?

LOL

Xero 01-13-2011 10:50 AM

So wait, the Hardys are yard tards?

This explains a lot.

Loose Cannon 01-13-2011 11:17 AM

actually a wrestling event at the Hardy Boys place is prob something I'd pay to see. Imagine all backwoods locals that will attend the show

Jordan 01-13-2011 11:33 AM

The funny thing is that they HAD to have been in WWE by that point, just fucking around making good old rasslin fights in the woods! PINFALL!

Xero 01-13-2011 11:42 AM

lol yeah. Terribly put together. If that wasn't a parody on yard tards and something "serious", even for comedy, that's terrible.

This is the reason why TNA has never advanced. It's time to do what Heyman suggested. He said if he was running the New York Yankees he'd cut everybody who was 30 years and older.

It's time for them to either man up, or finally retire like they should have when they figured out they couldn't handle a real company's touring schedule.

Maybe there's a reason why Heyman isn't running anything right now...

From PWInsider:

To follow up Mike Johnson's story from last night, TNA will do Impact on Thursday 2/24 in Fayetteville, NC at The Crown Center. It will be a live episode.

===

Apparently it can seat 8,500.

So how many people are going to attend you think, 1000 max? It's hard to say, The Hardys could garner enough talk to get 1200 there.

FearedSanctity 01-13-2011 02:27 PM

TNA's house shows have done pretty well, and given that its a TV taping, I think they could at least pull a couple thousand

Xero 01-13-2011 03:32 PM

Is North Carolina a popular spot for their house shows?

Emperor Smeat 01-13-2011 05:07 PM

TNA could promote Ric Flair as being in the house show since he's billed as being from North Carolina.

They should also try some shows at Nashville to see how much of a fanbase is still there since that was TNA's original place.

Xero 01-13-2011 05:32 PM

They did that house show recently there.

I was surprised they didn't do a taping from Hammerstein, honestly. I believe they sold that out and it was on a Thursday night.

Tornado 01-13-2011 05:39 PM

They've come over to the UK a few times and performed a house show at Wembley Arena in a reduced capacity set up, and have sold it out.
It usually seats 12'500, but in the reduced set up, I read they got 6'000 or so. Thats bigger then any crowd they've drawn in the US right?
If they held a set of TV tapings there, they'd have a legit shot at selling 8'000 seats. That would look good on TV and could give them the "big show" atmosphere they're lacking.

I went to a Smackdown taping there in 2000 on a whim and walked up and got ok tickets 2 hours before the show. It was maybe 2/3rds full at best.

The Hardy's are the most successful 'yard tards' of all time, their longest periods of 'proper training' were at the WWF camps like 4 years after they'd been doing TV jobs. Even things like working the left they picked up 'as they went', hence how 'unconventional' their style is, especially Jeff.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-13-2011 07:49 PM

I think that Foley would give them a run for their money for the title of best yard-tard of all time. He jumped off a fucking roof onto a piece of shit mattress. Also three time WWF Champion and he didn't jump around in a trampoline.

CSL 01-13-2011 08:00 PM

Foley was fully trained.

DLVH84 01-13-2011 08:28 PM

I think it would be a good change of pace...

The very first show was held in Huntsville, Alabama, before spending a couple years in Nashville, Tennesse, before moving to Orlando, Florida, which has been their main place since 2004, after TNA withdrew from the NWA.

Fully trained after doing that thing to get noticed.

DLVH84 showing off his wiki skills.

Gotta figure most "regulars" from Orlando will be there. So add a few hundred to however many the iMPACT Zone holds.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-14-2011 02:29 PM

Yeah but then they'll actually have to pay to be there for once.

No. Who was he noticed by exactly? Do you think trainers scout kids backyard videos for talent or something? Foley made those videos arsing around with his friends. He started training after finding out about a school while he was in college and would travel over the weekends, sleeping in his car upon arrival until training started then travelling back after it had finished (or something very similar). No 'noticing' and no glamour.
