Sting was Booked better in 1997 then anyone else...ever
Seriously....There was not a star booked better leading into Starcade 98 better than Sting.
they dropped the ball there. Another time... But seriously. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Lw6Hhtr2Y8s" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe> <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nJL1Tu-qD4k" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe> Just a taste... Try to refute thuis claim, or present your own BEST BOOKED YEAR EVER |
Starrcade 97 :p
and yeah he was right up until the payoff which basically made the whole fucking thing all for naught |
Way to go out on a limb, Hanso.

Starcade 97 was one of the biggest events of my childhood. Don't think I even ever got that excited for any Wrestlemania.

BTW I see your Sting and raise you Austin from WM 13 on through like what 15. |
I'll see your Sting and Austin, and raise you a Goldberg's debut until his title win over Hogan at the Georgia Dome.
|
I see all of you and raise you Daniel Bryan right now.
|
I never was a good gambler :'(
|
I am going to agree with this. I think the year-and-a-half build to Sting vs. Hogan in 1997 was the best built match ever. Unfortunately, they messed it up.

I'm probably the only one on TPWW who didn't care for Austin in his "heyday". I liked him in his feud with Bret, but afterwards he got old quick. Didn't like him again until he turned heel and started hugging McMahon.
|
Austin from The Night After Wrestlemania 14 when he won the title and stunned Vince, all the way to Wrestlemania 15 when he defeated The Rock. Pretty much every ppv was built around the guy the entire year.

Sting was all-round awesome back then, but I gotta admit I always hated when a wrestler would get the better of an entire stable. Besides being absolutely beyond any concept of reality that one man could beat ten by himself, it always bothered me how the people would sneak up behind the lone wrestler and just kinda stumble about with his arms.
In the second video, Buff Bagwell and Randy Savage both have plenty of chances to do something, but instead they just stand there with their arms extended pretending to have problems grabbing Sting. Always hated this. |
Man, WCW was goofy back in the day. Schiavone's a terrible commentator in that first video. And everything post-Bagwell dancing is just too corny for words.

wrong, Braden Walker has Sting beat

I see your Sting, Goldberg, Austin, even your Daniel Bryan and raise you Cena from December 2004 to the end of 2005.
Wut? |
I've always wondered, has Hogan ever come right out and said he doesnt like Sting? He pulled the "creative control" card on him twice so that he didnt have to lose cleanly (and that was the reason the Starrcade matched ended so poorly).

I insert Brock Lesnar. From debut to first title win.

WCW sucked

No Austin was booked way crazier in 98, I Mean check out all of all the ppv's and all the raws of that year and tell me he didn't was the ONE

Sting should've destroyed Hogan at Starcade. With all the ridiculous hype built around Sting finally getting the chance he waited a year for, the match should've lasted all of 10 to 12 mins with Hogan stalling, the NWO getting banned, and Sting going apeshit and mauling Hogan from pillar to post.
The way it was booked was so cluttered and bogged down that it is probably one the worst payoffs ever. I find it pretty sad, honestly. It;s not like it would tak a creative genious to figure out that this match pretty much wrote itself. I know they needed to debut Bret soon, but they should've done that at a later point, and for ratings reasons, probably hyped it. Him showing up randomly and cutting a promo about not letting "it" happen again, when really, nothing happened, was remarkably confusing. |
