Santino = Legendary?
 

On Sunday night, Santino Marella became a part of history……sort of. Even though he didn't win the Royal Rumble, he did join a very exclusive club. Take a look at this list:

All of these names are names of Royal Rumble runners-up. All of them are names of former world champions and future Hall of Famers. Most of these men all have something else in common: they main-evented that year’s WrestleMania, wrestling for a world title. What do you guys think? Is this something Santino should be proud of?

Like the saying goes there are always exceptions to the rule.

Santino is one of the best all around performers in the company.

Character-wise, he definitely throws the whole list off... but still.

Santino should go into the Hall of Fame this year.

I marked out for Santino at the Royal Rumble. I am going to admit it.

Santino is awesome...he's a comedy wrestler right now, but when it comes down to it, he can actually wrestle. We do need comic relief though, and Santino pulls it off extremely well too.

I don't think "runner up" counts as "legendary" in this case. If Santino MEs Wrestlemania, we'll talk.

they probably should just go ahead and book Santino to come "oh so close" in his major opportunities until he finally gets one.

I love Santino, and I love how the WWE has subtly increased the kayfabe abilities of Marella in recent months. The guy can legit win out of nowhere now, and it doesn't seem too unbelievable.

damnit you made me think they were doing "Legendary 2: The Cobra Strikes" with Santino and making it a comedy.

I'd prefer he kept the comedy personality but suddenly, much like that video, became a force in the ring. Maybe give him a temporary "mentor" like William Regal and suddenly have him just become this wrestling machine who, when not randomly dominating people, acts completely ridiculous. I'd love it. He'd be unbelievably over.

out of curiosity, i looked at all the wikipedia lists to find out the rest of the runner-ups. the smallest name i could find was earthquake. this guy might be onto something here.

Hes the best comedy wrestler of all times.

Dunno why theres such a clamouring for him to 'go all srs' when he does funny so well.

I'd love to see Santino Marella either get "training" (as someone suggested), or be involved in a feud so personal that he snaps and unleashes all this. Keep his personality the same, but just make him this machine in the ring.
