How would you feel about A Rod winning the IC or tag title?

Alot of people forgot that before Russo or Arquette won the WCW title, Vince McMahon won the world title in his company. Now whether you agree or not with a non wrestler winning the world title, how would you feel if another professional athelete came into the WWE and won one of the other belts? What if A Rod or somebody like Brian Urlacher (who are both pretty famous) are hosting RAW and end up in a tag match with the titles on the line. They are obviously teaming with an established star and get the pin for the belt (or they challenge for the US/IC title and win after unseen outside interference). Would you hate it with a passion like most people do like with Arquette? Would you think "hey it's all staged, they'll lose the title shortly either way"? Would you not even care at all because none of those titles carry the same value they did before?

Side note, this hypothetical question applys to WWE only. We have already seen Team Pacman and TNA is trying to have a steel cage match between a player and his coach

IC or Tag is fine, I could careless, but not Main Event

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-09-2011 03:51 PM

I think when you do something the first time you get a little bit of a break for being innovative.

Russo and Arquette winning the titles were seen as ripoffs of Vince winning. It wasn't like Vince actually did anything to win it though basically Austin gave him the win. I think people accept it more because of Stone Cold's involvment and the reversal of the feud of Austin/McMahon.

Arod would fit right in with the steroid crowd of professional wrestling though since he's a cheater himself.

MoFo 02-09-2011 03:58 PM

No.

glanville6 02-09-2011 04:00 PM

WWE doesn't make stupid mistakes like this. Those are TNA (Pac Man) and WCW (Arquette" mistakes.

#BROKEN Hasney 02-09-2011 04:16 PM

No-one forgets Vince winning the title, but he'd been in the main event for years and was accepted there (unlike Russo) and the hole angle was handled correctly.

And fuck this idea. Fuck it as hard as the laws of physics allow.

MoFo 02-09-2011 04:31 PM

K-Fed is the only case of celebrity involvement that I liked, but even then I wouldnt of wanted him to get a title.

It devalues the belts, yes I know 'they dont mean anything anymore' and whatnot, but still when you see a celebrity win it it makes a mockery of wrestling.

I actually though they would bring Britney in to distract Cena to make KFed win, but KFed fucked that up by blowing up at her laughing at his appearance on Raw.

WWE responsible for breaking up Britney and KFed, they should have gotten a humanitarian of the decade award for that.

Rather have A-Ri win it

Lock Jaw 02-09-2011 04:45 PM

Nicky Fives 02-09-2011 04:48 PM

This.

dingdongyo 02-09-2011 05:04 PM

whatever celebrity it is, it all depends on whether or not they can sell me. if they can't wrestle for shit, it feels like a stunt and i'm not into it.

St. Jimmy 02-09-2011 05:27 PM

tl;dr, who the hell is A Rod?

Make it happen. It would be almost as Awesome as that time a ladder won a title belt in some Japan federation.

Aw, who am I kidding. It WOULD be more Awesome.

Cool King 02-09-2011 05:31 PM

Lock Jaw. :(

ooTin 02-09-2011 05:35 PM

A-RI deserves a belt for putting up with the Miz and his AWESOMENESS

Cool King 02-09-2011 05:37 PM

A-RY.

Just for the record.

BigDaddyCool 02-09-2011 05:39 PM

Vince winning the title is way different than Russo or Arquette winning. Vince was in the mainevent, had a whole host of cronies, and numbers in his favor, plus everything was done with story and purpose. Russo and Arquette just were forced into the match and had no business there.

That being said, I can see professional athletes like boxers and football players having a chance at the IC or tag team titles...maybe not baseball players, that is a non-contact sport. So depending on how well the story and reasons are behind doing it, it would be ok. If it is just because "ratings!" then no.

Savio 02-09-2011 06:07 PM

Them putting the title on Vince was dumb, Dude was off TV for months then just came out of nowhere for no reason.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-09-2011 06:14 PM

Not for no reason, Triple H was hating on Linda.

Aguakate 02-09-2011 06:23 PM

Alex Rodriguez winning the IC or Tag Team Titles?

...talk about random.

Boondock Saint 02-09-2011 06:23 PM

Loved Vince winning the belt

thedamndest 02-09-2011 06:43 PM

About as good as I feel about Steve McMichael winning titles.

Beth Phoenix Fan 02-09-2011 07:49 PM

Wasn't Vince's title win just a way to kayfabe keep the Taker/Kane/Austin feud going longer? Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong one, I just remember laughing at Vince after the match giving Austin the finger.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-09-2011 08:34 PM

Austin/Kane/Taker/Vince was 1998, this was 1999.

It was to give to give the 6 Pack Challenge match a little bit extra importance cause it was for a vacant WWF Championship.

Basically it gave Triple H two title reigns in his first year as champion (1999) instead of just one, so basically belt-tag with Vince. He'd get to three titles by the end of the first month of 2000. Triple H won the WWF championship 3 times in the span of 6 months.

dhellova guy 02-09-2011 09:28 PM

Athletes, if they plan on being involved in the company for a couple of weeks, and it is believable, are ok with me. I wouldn't mind seeing Shaq come in and win a belt for a while, if its done correctly.

Actors, especially one of David Arquettes, um, physical prowess, shouldnt be allowed anywhere near a ring.

Aguakate 02-09-2011 09:51 PM

Vince winning the Title actually made sense, storyline-wise.

bigslimjj 02-10-2011 02:03 AM

Let's get this thread back to the subject of A-RI winning the title. I'd rather see David Ortiz vs. Mark Henry then the most overrated and over paid player in baseball vs. anyone. Go sox.

jkman61494 02-10-2011 12:04 PM

Completely unrelated, but that match just further showed how awesome the WWE/F used to be. That crowd went INSANE!

Savio 02-10-2011 01:19 PM

Vinces ECW title reign made more sense than his WWE title reign.

I was watching The Other Guys and he was in the movie so I just threw his name out. Plus the A RY thing that Alex Riley is doing. If there are any Houston Texans fans out there, I could see somebody lke Mario Williams (6ft 6 290lb monsterous defensive end) winning over somebody like Daniel Bryan.
