How do you come across new music?

I've been having a hard time finding new music to enjoy. I don't think all of today's music is lacking, but I find it difficult to come across something I'd like. Please post any recommendations, mainstream or whatever

Juan 02-14-2011 12:16 AM

Usually by other friends with similar taste, but I've found a lot of good music using Last.fm's recommendations.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-14-2011 12:22 AM

Whenever I check last.fm like Juan said.

El Fangel 02-14-2011 12:51 AM

Do not pay attention to Clox.

Seriously, go to songs you like on youtube, then along the side tehy have recommended songs, give that a try.

Rammsteinmad 02-14-2011 02:57 AM

progarchives.com

Usually if I buy a cd on Ebay, I'll check what other cds the seller is selling and if I see something that looks good and it's only €1 or whatever I'll chuck a bid on it.

I've come across some fucking incredible music this way. Bands that I probably would never have come across otherwise. But then at the same time I occasionally come across some that are crap.

Just gotta take that risk.

Rammsteinmad 02-14-2011 08:20 AM

Raven Reaper 02-14-2011 09:53 AM

Maybe my sig and avatar can help you. :p

GD 02-14-2011 02:11 PM

Back in the days, I use to visit the local music store. Nowadays I just go to RollingStone, Billboard, last.fm, Youtube and friends.

last.fm recommendations radio is the best. I find so much stuff that way since it plays stuff you haven't heard but will probably like based on all the stuff you already listen to.

Also friend recommendations or I will check my friends' last.fm pages to see what they are listening to sometimes and find stuff that way.

Also follow blogs that leak a bunch of albums and download stuff that way sometimes just randomly based on the cover art.

Funky Fly 02-14-2011 05:59 PM

Can you pm some of those blogs, "broseph"?

El Vaquero de Infierno 02-14-2011 07:15 PM

I check out some of the suggestions put here, I go to a music forum and ask people about bands that I should check out, and I look at the recommendations given to me by Amazon.

El Fangel 02-14-2011 07:16 PM

I enjoy hip hop, rock, and a bit of folk

El Fangel 02-14-2011 10:39 PM

I can only help you with the middle.

Indifferent Clox 02-14-2011 11:06 PM

you cant help fake razor with anything regarding music.

Indifferent Clox 02-14-2011 11:06 PM

He listens to the same sort of music I do, fallen angel.

Indifferent Clox 02-14-2011 11:07 PM

I usually go to metacritic, stereogum, last.fm, pitchfork, gorillavsbear, and if it gets good reviews I get it. if its a band i like i get it. Demonoid.com is also excellent if you can get a passcode

jcmoorehead 02-15-2011 06:37 PM

Last.fm is quite good. Generally I'll look at the artists I like and check out whats influenced them or other acts associated with them. Another way is to see what the fans of bands I like tend to listen to as well and see if thats any good.

The Mask 02-16-2011 05:52 PM

i don't like last fm type stuff because they find bands i like and then assume i will also like guns and roses and nickleback.

What do I have to do with anything in this thread

DrA 02-16-2011 07:20 PM

Don't know anymore. I lost my music collection when they shut down Morpheus.

Snowden 02-17-2011 12:16 AM

I'll find a lot of different stuff by throwing on Pandora and seeing what I hit. Plugging in random songs/artists as stations yields some pretty great stuff.

Indifferent Clox 02-17-2011 09:28 PM

sorry i was drunk fake razor

Graveler 02-18-2011 12:24 AM

I've decided to sign up to last.fm

Kris P Lettus 02-18-2011 05:25 AM

Odd Future is the best new shit out..

Mooияakeя™ 02-18-2011 01:25 PM

Look on a "certain" (pm if you really want to know) website, youtube the artist and check a few of the tracks on youtube before thinking weather to decide.

I got Chromeo and Starfucker this way. BOTH total epicness! Seriously. WOW.

Haze 02-19-2011 01:05 PM

Pandora and Slacker have been helpful.

Pretty Reckless >>>>>>>>>>>> Paramore. Highly doubt the band likes to get crazy ass half naked fangirls onstage to dance with Taylor Fucking Momsen. She's hot!!

El Vaquero de Infierno 02-25-2011 07:28 AM

I'd use Pandora but it doesn't work in the UK.

Yeah that's where I learn about a lot of new music, I love it. My college roommate and I used it to discover new bands on there all the time and we ended up spending way too much money on CDs.

Vastardikai 02-25-2011 05:26 PM

Youtube, Songs playing at a Bar, friends, etc.

I was at a bar last night and heard this band for the first time.

The Destroyer 02-26-2011 07:51 AM

I've used last.fm for ages, but I've never really bothered with the Recommendations Radio until today. It's actually very good, plenty of bands on there I now have to check out more. :y:
