World Wrestling (Federation) Entertainment: The 1980s

When I went to RAW in Providence a couple of weeks ago, the night Lawler won a shot at the championship, I was talking to some fans about the way things used to be. They were probably 20 years old or so, and were mentioning things like DX, NWO, and the first HIAC match.

What I found out while we were chatting is that a lot of the classic stuff that happened in the WWF/WWE while I was growing up in the 1980's is stuff those fans have never seen. For instance, I mentioned TNT, Tuesday Night Titans, and they had never heard of it.

Now of course it isn't their fault that they weren't born yet to experience the 1980's, but it got me thinking.... how many of you here were watching wrestling back then and what are some of your favorite things from those days? Post related videos, pictures, etc.

I started watching regularly around late 1999

Providence Peep 02-17-2011 09:27 PM

And for those of you who weren't around during the 80's, post what you think of the videos and pics that are posted. Obviously Roddy Piper was one of the greatest heels of ALL TIME.

itsmeJD 02-17-2011 09:37 PM

Loved Piper in his prime. I just downloaded a ton or 80's torrents from PWtorrents and have started watching them in chronological order. Last night was Summerslam 1989. Zeus fucking sucked but damn if I don't remember him being bad ass as a kid. The 80's was a great time for wrestling, between the WWF and Jim Crockett Promotions...good stuff. I may not agree with you on your facebook obsession Peep, but I'm with you on this.

Hey thanks, JD. I appreciate that. Why don't you post some of your favorite stuff from the 80s?

itsmeJD 02-17-2011 09:40 PM

Because I work at a shithole of a job where they've blocked my ability to see, much less post vids and pics. Your clips are unavailable to me until I can get to the house. I'll try to grab some shit when I get back to the house tho.

I am a huge fan of wrestling from the 80's and I started watching in 1988

I am more of a fan of Jim Crockett Promotions as they were more fun to watch

From February 18, 1985, and for the first time ever on TPWW, here's the event that led to the first WrestleMania. For those who don't know, "The War to Settle the Score" (and the WWF cartoon, as well) were part of the "Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection" - a period of cooperation and cross-promotion between the WWF and the pop music industry.
