nXt Redemption

The fifth season of NXT Season Five is called NXT Redemption and features six runner-up contestants from previous seasons. The cast is as follows:

* Byron Saxton with Pro Yoshi Tatsu

* Conor O’Brian with Pro Vladimir Kozlov

* Darren Young with Pro Chavo Guerrero

* Jacob Novak with Pro JTG

* Lucky Cannon with Pro Tyson Kidd

* Titus O’Neil with Pro Hornswoggle

The broadcast team consists of Todd Grisham and William Regal. Matt Striker and Maryse act as the show’s hosts.

So I watched the first episode. I feel like WWE is using this as an experiment for many different things rather than actually finding the "next big thing"....

P.S. Darren Young looked pretty good last night and Lucky Cannon is now heeling it up.

william regal=win

Thought it was gonna be old guys trying to win back their spots on the roster. :(
Would've been brilliant.

Oh well.

Well, in Darren Young's case, isn't it just that?

SlickyTrickyDamon 03-09-2011 10:09 AM

Hasn't Darren Young consistently defeated both William Regal (NXT announcer) and his pro Chavo Guerrero on Superstars?

Shouldn't Darren Young be the Pro of Chavo Guerrero looking for redemption from being a fn' eagle?

Ruien 03-09-2011 10:53 AM

Why are all the pros jobbers now?

So Lucky Cannon thinks he is Ric Flair now?

VSG 03-09-2011 11:22 AM

He got a "Wooooooooo........Booooooooooo" shout when he came out. Also, Maryse is just about the hottest girl I have ever seen. Also pretty mischievous- she kept trying to trip Striker and ran to put her foot down on Cannon's robe when not on air. Oh and she teased another kiss with poor Todd, don't think that made it on air.

Love the zoom ins on the females asses, VSG. You know you can get actual porn pretty easy, right.

VSG 03-09-2011 11:29 AM

Only zoomed in on Maryse and Layla.. I go for quality over quantity :naughty:

He consistantly jobbed to them, I think the only match he ever won on Superstars was an eight man tag match.

Haze 03-09-2011 12:15 PM

I hope Darren Young gets a good run off of this, the kid actually looked pretty good in his match against Cena.

Snowden 03-09-2011 02:03 PM

Love the idea, but its unfortunate that they're using Superstars fodder as the pros. They should have at least had some bigger names there, simply to get people to tune in. Remember, these are guys who were mediocre enough to not even make it to the main roster post-NXT...we need some reason to get the reasonably casual fan to tune in.

Also, I can see an Alex Riley sighting on the show...he'd make for a perfect "Redemption" candidate...and possibly even a winner?

They should just get it over with and give Darren Young the gimmick I gave him in ARMCHAIR WARFARE. A very naive and confused man who honestly thinks he is the long lost non-identical twin brother of John Cena, and thus does anything to ingratiate himself with Cena.

Why?

Assuming the emptiness of the arena?

There's like 15 people in the crowd.

Looks like your average iMPACT taping to me.

Ultra Mantis 03-09-2011 02:59 PM

Just watched this. Novak and Lucky Cannon are still awful. I'm calling Darren Young to take the season and Titus O'Neil to last longer than he should #winning.

Yeah.

I just feel bad for the guys. :-\

Anybody Thrilla 03-09-2011 04:30 PM

Titus O'Neil will not be making it a win with Hornswoggle as his pro.

screech 03-09-2011 05:11 PM

Still hate Lucky Cannon.

screech 03-09-2011 05:15 PM

Liked Regal on commentary, though.

VSG 03-09-2011 06:09 PM

Nah, for some reason that whole section was not offered for seating. The few people you see there are probably friends and family. It was around 95% full as you see here:

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_Z...0/IMG_1215.JPG

The section in the right of the picture above is the one in question.

VSG was sitting opposite the hard camera. Whatever side the hard cam is on is always empty, except for comps.

Best seats in the house, honestly.

Hornswoggle got seriously booed when he was revealed as the pro but Titus actually got really over by the end of the show all by himself. I haven't seen how it looked on the complete show though.

Jura 03-09-2011 07:41 PM

Is the leg room really that tight as it looks?

VSG 03-09-2011 09:11 PM

You had about 2 feet of space between each row. Enough for most people, and the rows are offset by 1 seat so that even if a douchbag keeps standing in the row below you it doesn't hurt as badly.

They added a huge cheer.

LOL.. So much for that, the crowd was hot all night but seeing this I wonder how Smackdown will sound like.

Mr. Nerfect 03-10-2011 03:04 AM

I'm going to watch this just to hear William Regal on commentary and to see if these guys step it up. I don't understand why a guy with "business sense" like Novak doesn't get a haircut or wear something other than plain white trunks. Marketing, man.

To be honest, I like Lucky Cannon. He's obviously playing a heel character, so I don't think he'll last long, but I do hope he gets it together.

Sixx 03-10-2011 03:08 AM

Hornswoggle as a pro?

Terrible.

Sixx 03-10-2011 03:09 AM

Is Titus O'Neil a midget?

Yeah, in theory. But kiddies love him, and will probably tune into NXT to see his antics. Well, that's the working idea, I'm sure. It positions O'Neil more as a babyface, and I'm sure William Regal will earn extra points for putting him over on commentary. "That man is the son of Fit Finlay -- no son of Fit Finlay's is a pushover. Especially one that's spent his life looking up at the world, sunshine." Something to that effect.

XCaliber 03-10-2011 12:17 PM

Hope Connor has a better run this time around he was the goods last time around.

screech 03-10-2011 05:50 PM

As much as I've ragged on the guy, I did enjoy Todd Grisham paired with Regal. Should be a good pairing going forward.

I missed last season so I don't know anything about the guys from it (save Saxton and that's only from ECW). I'm definitely interested though. Gonna keep up with this for sure.

Mr. Nerfect 03-12-2011 12:53 AM

I loved William Regal on commentary. He doesn't feel the need to talk all the time, and he manages to talk with a laid-back style that delivers everything you need to know, but just separates him from other commentators in the WWE. He is also effortlessly entertaining and likable there. I also like his self-depreciative style.

SaskatchewanChamp 03-12-2011 04:22 PM

nXt should just fucking die already.
