Where Does Michael Cole Go After Wrestlemania?

Michael Cole’s character is really hitting creative highs recently. He is generating as much, if not more, heat than any of the top heel wrestlers in the company. His feud with Jerry Lawler is taking a personal turn and fans are calling for Cole’s blood at Wrestlemania. However, once Jerry is done beating Cole from pillar to post, where can the leader of the cole minors go from there? Let’s explore some of the options.

Raw General Manager
It is very likely that Michael Cole could be revealed as the anonymous Raw General Manager. The role almost already seems like his because he is the person that takes the heat for all of the unfair decisions rendered via e-mail. So it would be a natural progression to just take the computer away and have Cole officially assume the role. Plus he could continue to use his trademark catchphrase, “may I have your attention please.”

Heel Manager
A great heel manager is meant to add personality and draw heat for his or her client. Cole certainly can speak well on the microphone after serving nearly fifteen years as an announcer and, as mentioned earlier, he is inciting as big of a negative reaction from the crowd as anybody in the business today. The heel manager has become nearly extinct these days but Cole seems to be a perfect fit. Guys like Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre, and the members of the Corre that have a lot of athletic ability but lack the personality traits necessary to get heat could really be pushed to the next level with the addition of Michael Cole to their corner.

Smackdown Announcer
There is no chance of Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler reuniting as partners on the Raw announce team because the angle has gotten too personal and the fans wouldn’t buy it. Cole was the voice of Smackdown for almost a decade. He could make a return to the brand because he is afraid of crossing paths with King again, but play it off like he built Smackdown and the show needs him. A full time return to the announce booth on Friday nights could definitely add a new interesting dynamic to the show. Josh Mathews has done pretty well on Raw and would make a formidable announce team with the King. While Cole and Booker T. have already demonstrated excellent chemistry together and could really do great things for the Smackdown brand in the long run.
NXT Pro
Cole did not hide the fact that he despised NXT while announcing on the show. So as punishment for his outrageous behavior on Raw and Smackdown and since Cole will officially enter the ranks as a competitor at Wrestlemania, he is eligible be assigned a rookie. Michael could do great things for a young talent as an antagonist that dismisses his young protege and the show as a joke. Or, like the heel manager role mentioned above, Cole could garner great heat for a young villain looking to attain the ire of the audience. His presence would definitely generate some much needed interest in the show.

What do you guy think WWE will do with Cole after 'Mania?

Theo Dious 03-16-2011 11:26 PM

Can we ban this fuck already? Aside from dry-humping free ad space, I'm pretty sure he's a Noid sock.

Aguakate 03-16-2011 11:28 PM

I think the more compelling question is where does LAWLER go...

VSG 03-16-2011 11:28 PM

Noid post, Noid post, Noid post.

Noid post.

Tazz Dan 03-16-2011 11:42 PM

This is actually a pretty good question.

Tazz Dan 03-16-2011 11:43 PM

In saying that I didn't read the post, so I have no idea what he said after the thread title.

screech 03-16-2011 11:43 PM

If you want to start discussions, post the question/idea and open it up to everyone. No need to repost all of your columns here.

You can put a link to your site in your sig to get people to go there.

screech 03-16-2011 11:44 PM

To try to answer it, though: I think the most obvious choice is RAW General Manager. He's already the voice of it, so it would be natural for him to just assume full responsibility.

screech 03-16-2011 11:46 PM

Another possibility (a good one, I think) is for him to become a manager. Could be huge for getting someone over who can't really cut it on the mic. As long as he doesn't disrupt that by trying to put himself over like he does with commentary, that is.

Nicky Fives 03-16-2011 11:47 PM

He needs to stay off commentary for a while..... NXT Season 6 makes sense.... to fill the time until then, have him around Jack Swagger, who could use the rub....

Jordan 03-16-2011 11:51 PM

I hate that you post columns here but it's a good read. I think the best choice after Wrestlemania is to run an angle about the guest GM and Michael Cole being in cahoots, eventually Cole gets into a feud with Cena around Summerslam where he demands to know who the fucking GM is, Cole does a good job of making us think it's actually somebody else when... "...It's me..."

Naturally, and Cole fills the Vince McMahon void on Raw for the foreseeable future. Also he should have a stable probably with Miz, Riley, and a few other assholes, something similar to The Corporation. And he will always have Jerry Lawler to keep the heat on him via commentary. Lawler and Mathews are a great team for as long as King wants to do it.

dingdongyo 03-17-2011 12:09 AM

i like cole, but not as the raw gm. that wouldn't feel like a revelation at all.

BizarroKing 03-17-2011 12:12 AM

Manager. I will be PO'ed if it's anything but.

screech 03-17-2011 12:18 AM

Does it need to feel like a revelation, though? I mean yeah it would be cool if someone we haven't seen for a while (say, Shane or Stephanie or even Nash) came back to fill the role, but what would be the point?

Cole is already taking all the heat for the emails, so it would make sense to bring the heat of the decisions to him as well. In the beginning it would have been great to have someone come in and say he or she was pulling the strings, but it's gone on too long for that to really make a difference.

Troelar 03-17-2011 02:14 AM

About the GM thing. As far as I know Jericho is still looking for the anon GM (at least kayfabe) - I don't know about you, but I kinda hope they hold it out until Jericho can return and reveal the GM. But then again, memory isn't exactly the strong suit of the wrestling crowd. I don't think I would mind Cole being the GM, but I see it working better in conjuction with the role as...

Manager: Hell yeah! That would be awesome. There are many options available, and they are on all heights of the WWE, giving a potential stable with many facets.

Announcing: I don't know. It would feel a bit disappointing to have super heel Cole either just disappear or continue disrupting matches on a brand, with nothing to build up to, cause we already had the build.

Asmo 03-17-2011 02:40 AM

Good question. Forgive me for saying this, but i don't really know who can step up to replace Cole on the RAW commentary desk, even though he's been on his A game only lately. Sure, they're trying to give more exposure to the younger guys, but would they let them run with the ball?

Lawler or Cole have to continue at the commentary desk. IMO, Lawler's the easier one to replace.

That being said, i'd love Cole to continue as a manager - he'd make a great mouthpiece for someone who's green on the mic. Maybe a stable, but i would think the top guy in the stable would overshadow Cole.

ace3025 03-17-2011 03:05 AM

Why does Cole have to lose at WM? If he wins he gets to gloat more and more about how lawler is washed up and how he is the future and the voice of the WWE. Pair him with Matthews on RAW and send king to smackdown till he's ready to go. I think continuing to push Cole would do great for him, but I definitely wouldn't mind him stepping out of the commentator role though. Idk as long as he doesn't just disappear I'm ok

Indifferent Clox 03-17-2011 05:38 AM

Daniel bryan will turn on lawler and help Cole

#BROKEN Hasney 03-17-2011 05:41 AM

I don't know. Let's watch and find out.

Mr. Nerfect 03-17-2011 05:48 AM

Cole would be best used as a manager right now. I personally don't like the idea of Cole doing either of the other two options. RAW GM would pretty much be the same as he is doing now. Yay for that shit. He's too big a personality to be an effective commentator right now.

As a manager, Cole can transfer heat to people. That's perfect. Josh Mathews & Jerry Lawler would be your commentary team on RAW, while Todd Grisham, Booker T & Matt Striker take SmackDown!.

DrA 03-17-2011 05:48 AM

I read this on thebladejob.com and I thought it summed everything up pretty well.

Manager would be the best choice I'd say. And who knows maybe it would begin a new era of managers

Funny how Noid doesn't post in thebladejob.com's thread *Conspiracy*

If he's not going to be the Raw GM, I would love this. Being Daniel Bryan's mouthpiece would definitely be interesting.

Totally agree... With all the heat on him now, using him as an announcer is a waste... This is a great segway into bringing back the manager/valets into the WWE once again...

thedamndest 03-17-2011 04:00 PM

I think he'll stop at thebladejob.com to visit the only spot on the internet where wrestling gets color.

Lock Jaw 03-17-2011 04:00 PM

Probably goes to the bathroom.

Rock Bottom 03-17-2011 05:05 PM

I actually think he's pretty damned talented and I think the sky is the limit for him. My guess is that he gets beaten really badly at Mania and follows up with some kind of lawsuit angle or something stupid like that. As far as announcing goes, I think if he were to do something different it would be a gradual thing. It looks like they might be slowly working him away from announcing anyway.

Maybe this is just something they're doing to allow him to have fun. Who knows. He's mega heat though and I never would have guessed it.

I don't think he should have shit on that woman's tag match the way he did but that's obviously not really his call so it's kind of moot. Other than that he's doing really well and I actually don't mind him, although I think the guy needs way less air time.

RiX1024 03-17-2011 05:21 PM

Heel manager equals sounds like a plan, but him as the RAW GM would be better.

That would be fucking brilliant. Cole gets destroyed, piledriver and a broken neck later he shows up on Raw in a neckbrace with lawyers. He sues WWE for damages and ends up taking Raw in the process, boom. Cole as GM with a neckbrace for a year = heat.

Jordan 03-17-2011 05:46 PM

Then we all find out eventually that he never had a broken neck and the company goes back to Vince or some other babyface.

MoFo 03-17-2011 05:47 PM

Use him as Vickie Guerrero v2, put him with fairly bland guys (but talented, ie McIntyre, Swagger) as their mouthpiece to carry the mic work and get the heat on them.

Dirk Ziggler 03-18-2011 12:00 AM

I don't see what he could do as the raw GM. Continuously give The Miz title shots?

Fox 03-18-2011 01:15 AM

He's going to be an announcer. That's for sure. JR isn't coming back and to be honest, King probably isn't going anywhere for awhile either.

After Mania, I would love for King and Cole to continue to announce together and just argue with each other and get into scraps and what not. Then one night, it's announced that a new member will be added to the RAW announce table to sit between Cole and King and to keep the peace.

Cue: JBL.

BigCrippyZ 03-18-2011 02:26 AM

I could seriously buy him as the RAW GM or as a manager. I agree with JordanX, I think I'd have him start a Corporation type of stable, maybe with Miz as the Rock of the stable. I think he's becoming better and better as the heel type authority/mouthpiece, although sometimes the writing team over uses him IMO. It wouldn't be as bad if he wasn't on commentary also. They need to choose, one or the other. Personally, I hope he becomes an authority figure or manager.

Jakob Synn 03-18-2011 03:09 AM

I see him losing at Wrestlemania, but then revealing the next night on RAW that he's the annomyus RAW GM.

Though I think they should just seperate the announcers after Wrestlemania because having 2 top announcers on one show is lame and is a waste of talent.

Troelar 03-18-2011 10:49 AM

If he's the RAW GM, then it makes no sense that he wouldn't use his power to make 100% that King wont beat him.
-And I quote: King must fight with both arms behind his back, and blindfolded.
-And I quote: Anyone interfering with the fight to help King will be fired.
-And I quote: Lawler is a douche

Or do we think wrestling fans wont be thinking that, seeing as it's you know - separated by a day!
