Triple H Named The New Head Of Talent Development

The following press release was issued by <s>World Wrestling Entertainment</s> WWE on Thursday. Not only is the company re-branding itself simply "WWE" - but there's a new tag line and Triple H will lead the company's new talent development program:

The New WWE® Expands Beyond Wrestling

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To better reflect the company’s global entertainment offerings, World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: WWE) announced today a new business model for future growth, including formally rebranding itself, WWE.

“The new business model of the company better reflects what WWE is all about, being a global entertainment company”

Two key components to WWE’s brand expansion will be the active pursuit to acquire entertainment content companies and the outsourcing of WWE’s core competencies – television and film production, live event production and licensing. As part of the new business model, the company will also focus on the development of new television products including scripted, non-scripted and animated programs, as well as the launch of a new WWE network in the next 12-18 months. The first new program of the brand expansion is Tough Enough®, WWE’s non-scripted program that debuted on the USA Network on Monday.

“The new business model of the company better reflects what WWE is all about, being a global entertainment company,” stated Vince McMahon, Chairman and CEO, WWE. “We will always be loyal to our core business that made WWE a globally known entity, however, the future of WWE will be the addition of new entertainment content opportunities beyond the ring.”

This new rebranding initiative will be highlighted through a national consumer and business-to-business advertising campaign entitled “Bigger. Badder. Better.™” The campaign kicked off at WrestleMania® XXVII on Sunday and will be featured on cable TV, print and online.

In addition to focusing on the expansion of the company, the company will bolster its core business with the launch a new talent development department headed by Paul “Triple H®” Levesque. The new department will put a greater emphasis on worldwide recruitment, training and character development to identify future WWE Superstars and Divas. The first recruit acquired under Levesque’s new department was the signing last month of future WWE Superstar, Sin Cara™, formerly known worldwide as Mistico.

So now maybe there will actually be other challenges for him, other than the Undertaker...if he so chooses to develop talent

Kane Knight 04-07-2011 10:22 PM

He'll have to. It's getting harder to make him look good.

dronepool 04-07-2011 10:30 PM

I'm gonna go home and watch entertainers entertaining people with some sports like entertainment.

Xero 04-07-2011 10:32 PM

They're not even using "Sports Entertainment" anymore. That PR person called it "Entertainments" and I really can't remember them using "Sports Entertainment" in the last few months in official material.

Lock Jaw 04-07-2011 10:33 PM

We gonna have a rash of Triple H-clones in the next few years?

Aguakate 04-07-2011 10:35 PM

They basically made a new department so Triple H could head it...

Maybe they can start a band and go on tour with Fozzy and entertain people with entertainments.

Xero 04-07-2011 10:35 PM

Vince: It's like talent relations, only you do less, get to go on exotic "business trips" and get paid a shit ton more.

Aguakate 04-07-2011 10:39 PM

I think Triple H has a good eye for talent...I think he'll be good in this position.

VSG 04-07-2011 10:46 PM

Well he is on a good start with Mistico. I am sure he doesn't have the ego to not listen to veteran agents like JR so it should be pretty good.

He also pushed Sheamus, and he turned out alright.

I think you mean "autistic combat."

Sorry, "artistic combat."

I hope there's a cream for that.

He also pushed Batista, fella.

It truly is the blind leading the blind.

Right...

...also took Ric Flair, brought him along for Evolution, and revived his career.

Point is, Triple H has all the tools to do a good job in this position.

Savio 04-07-2011 11:06 PM

I wonder if HHH will tell the new talent that he shit his pants with yokozuna.

No, he'll tell them:

McLegend 04-07-2011 11:37 PM

Obviously HHH knows talent. He's been around since Nam. Good for him getting this job. I just want them to bring in someone who doesn't think like them. Just one new voice.

I realize that's not going to happen.

Jordan 04-07-2011 11:54 PM

So is Johnny Ace out of a job?

Juan 04-07-2011 11:57 PM

Ace is an executive of some sorts now.

Droford 04-08-2011 12:10 AM

I have a feeling the WWE Network take over for Universal HD. Universal HD already has a 8 hour WWE Block on Saturday nights and there was a rumor about it happening a while ago.

Jeritron 04-08-2011 03:08 AM

I consider this good news, tbh. I want someone like Triple H "keeping it real." I think his opinions on talent and the actual wrestling side of the business will be key, especially when they don't interfere with his own participation in the product.

Rammsteinmad 04-08-2011 05:28 AM

If this keeps Triple H off TV, I'm all for it.

El Fangel 04-08-2011 05:35 AM

He does have a nose for the W business afterall.

Basically what i was thinking.

Rock Bottom 04-08-2011 07:33 AM

This is a good thing. Hopefully during this evolution of the company things will fall back into place. All the entertainmenty entertainment can be done by the entertainers and if you have guys like Triple H involved in the talent/development of the wrestling product good things can happen.

This also doesn't surprise me, the expansion thing. Vince is not one to sit around on his ass and be complacent. He's been trying and hungry for as long as I can remember.

MoFo 04-08-2011 09:44 AM

I guess it makes sense, putting one of the best wrestlers of all time heading that dept.

In all seriousness, all I have to say about this is...

Mr. Nerfect 04-09-2011 01:51 AM

If his first signing was Mistico, then Triple H is clearly not going to be going just after guys who reflect him. Triple H is becoming more and more about the business, and the more it succeeds the happier he'll be.

I also have a gut feeling that Triple H was behind the scrapping of the Nexus. Apparently he's not big on guys being called up before they are ready, and really the only member of that group ready was Michael McGillicutty.

Schlomey 04-09-2011 11:04 AM

I just hope he likes Zack Ryder.

Gertner 04-09-2011 11:41 AM

HHH was key in Sheamus's push, and I love me some Sheamus. I really don't think it's a bad thing at all.

lol I hope you didn't watch Z!True Long Island Story episode 7. Your heart will be broken.

Schlomey 04-09-2011 03:22 PM

I did and I hope it was a work. :/

Nightwing 04-09-2011 04:29 PM

I dont see a problem with this. Hes a student of the business, and its not like hes lacking talent himself. This is nothing but a positive. I think hes the guy who could straighten things out once Vince is done. Bring it back to its wrestling roots and keep it that way.

Damian Rey 04-09-2011 06:39 PM

He's a good fit for the job. This is a guy who was a total package in his day. If he signs guys who can put on good matches and cut good promos, there's a brighter future already ahead. Sheamus is of the same breed. Great look, good promo, good worker.

Signing Sin Cara is also a sign that he gets the idea of diversity within the roster. You can't have an exciting product if everyone works the same style and has the same look, and Cara is a dramatic contrast to a lot of the roster, sans Mysterio, who could be on his way out.

I have faith in Hunter.

Mr. JL 04-11-2011 06:08 PM

So, the company is no longer World Wrestling Entertainment just 'WWE'.

Yes. Just like MTV. Nobody calls it "Music Television" anymore. It's just 3 letters: MTV
