It was certainly a great feud and one that probably deserved it's own Wrestlemania one on one match.
I just don't think the WWE was confident enough in either of them as main eventers in 2006. They put them on hold and took the oppurtunity to season them more against vets like HHH and Foley.
Those matches really helped them get over, too. So I'm not sure.
It would have been a ballsy move to give them the main event that early, but it also might have taken things in a different direction. That was a time where things were going in that direction anyways, so drawing power was probably the only concern in playing it safe.
Who knows. I feel the feud was eventually done justice, though. But I have said before this thread that I would have liked to have seen them main event a WM one day, still. Maybe with reversed face/heel roles. Not going to happen now, though.
