WWE aquires Miller Sponsorship
 
From PWInsider, from a rundown of the shareholders meeting:

Sponsorships were brought up. A stockholder asked why energy drinks and Budweiser aren't spending money with the WWE product. He also asked about the K-Mart sponsorship. Michelle Wilson, the company's Chief Marketing Officer, discussed the partnership and how K-Mart's awareness on their website and live events will benefit their retail outlets. She said it was a unique deal in that it was done jointly with the USA Network. She said that they, as a property, are one stop shopping, unlike sports products, since they can get talent appearances, TV awareness and live event awareness in one place. She said they have signed a similar deal with Mars and they are making progress in educating potential partners of what they have to bring to the table. She announced they have come to an agreement with Miller to do a summer promotion with the Keystone Light brand and they are looking to use some talents as part of that agreement.

McMahon said that PG doesn't have to mean kids, it just means PG. He said that if you are TV-MA, certain sponsors aren't going to touch you. He said that WWE can be aggressive but also fun. He said that it's important that the company doesn't do something outlandish that can put a blemish on their sponsors and partners. He said that they are attracting more sponsors because of their dedication to putting on a PG product for everyone.

That they're a business and this is the best decision for profit? 2004-2007 or so was their most MA stuff they've ever done, but the writing was so shit that no-on bought merch. By being "PG", they still get the ratings because as well as bringing in a new audience, the tardcore will never stop watching. Therefore, you can bring in big sponsors and make a tidy profit and shift even more merch to shit the kids up.

Well they do have a partnership with 7/11. Aren't they still owned by Pepsi Co.? If they are it could still happen.

CM Punk did use "choice of a new generation" during his Smackdown Championship reign. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that they could do that if he stays on and is champion again.

Miller beer thinks it's main brand is too good for wrestling, and are instead using wrestling to promote Keystone.

That says it all about the American general public's view of wrestling.

That's right and they have a Rosa. Also Keystone is popular brand with College age kids, so it's a good fit for the WWE right now. It could be a lot worse they could been sponsored by like Natty Ice.

It is about time that WWE had a beer company as a sponsor. Every other sports-like entertainment company has beer sponsors.

Eric Bischoff's comment on this from his facebook page:

"Congrats to WWE for landing a beer sponsor (Miller). That has been a target sponsor for years and one that I myself tried hard to land for long time. Going to be interesting to watch WWE walk the tightrope between marketing alcohol and their obvious kids demo. Stay tuned..this will be interesting from a business pov"

Absolutely, to both. I'm just making the observation that it's sort of a hidden indicator of the state of things when it comes to wrestling in the mainstream.

It won't be that hard to balance it. The NFL, NBA, MLB, etc. don't have a problem with it. They would have to be very obnoxious with the in-product beer advertising for it to be an issue.

WTF does Bischoff know about business? Certainly more than me, granted, but tossing money around for bands and sushi nights and giving away money matches on TV doesn't seem like a resume for success.

He may know certain insider things that we don't know, but would learn if you had his job. The only reason he was successful is cause he just did the opposite of WWE, which he has stated many time. Give me his power, and TNA would actually be worth watching, hell give the job to 1/10 posters on TPWW and you'd get a drastically better show.

Well, that's kind of what I meant. The guy's shortcomings when it came to money are more known than some of the other stuff that we haven't been told of. It would've been interesting to see if he could handle the books if his Fusient deal had through in 2001.
