New X-Men movie
I'm in the theatre now waiting for it to start. Very lackluster review coming up afterwards.
|
You go to the theatre alone? Or are you an asshole that types on his cellphone in presence of his friends?
Either way, this is sad. |
I saw this yesterday and I have to say I enjoyed it. I think it was great retelling of the x-men.

Btw both. |
The movie was pretty good. There is a great cameo in the middle of it. Magneto was Dark Knight Joker, awsome in the first half, but once he teamed with Charles.and his flunkies, he cooled off. The end was good, not great.
January Jones was smoking hot as Emma Frost, but she acted like Betty Draper. Not sure how Frost is suppose to be portrayed. She got better towards the end though. The casting for Magneto and Charles was flawless. I have a few problems with the story. Specifically the Bacon character from start to end and then Magneto at the very end. Left me feeling like they were back at square one and alls for nothing. |

And the second part, well, it's mostly teenage girls doing that, playing with their cellphones while hanging out with somebody. Shit is annoying. |
People go see movies alone all the time. I usually do it because none of my bum friends and family have any money.
|
I do a lot of things alone.
|
Seems I'm alone in this.

So on a lazy Sunday afternoon you get bored and decide to go catch a flick and your girl is like, nah I'll just take a nap or something so you go ahead alone. What do you do, grab her by the hair and drag her to the theatre?
|
Yes Dmac you do... but thats not to say going to a movie alone is a no no... I do that all the time. But in the situation you presented, you must show the girlfriend what is up, thus she will never question your manliness, and thus be more addicted to your penis. :y:
|
You let your girl nap?
|
This was quite good, quite good
|
What was the Wolverine cameo?
Please tell me. Spoiler tag it, or PM it, but I need to know. |

Or wait til after her nap. Or call a friend and go with them. Going alone to the cinema is weird and is a sign that you have no friends. |

I fail to see the link between going to the movies alone and having no friends.
|
Hey, I didn't make the rules. I just abide by them.

My favorite scene is when Magneto walks into the bar and drinks german beer with the farmer and the tailor.

I noticed that the less of a central role Wolverine plays in an X-Men movie, the better it ends up being.
In other words, I thought this was the best of the X-Men movies. Followed by X-2 (which focused more on the team, though did give Wolvie a major role.). Then X-Men in a distant 3rd, followed by X-3, and bringing up the rear is the Wolverine one. Not to say there wasn't complaints about the movie, like Havoc (sp?) forgetting he has a brother, Why couldn't Angel just be called Pixie, and the deal with Magneto at the end. Biggest plus in the movie? The development of Mystique, Beast, and X. |
Angel wasn't based on pixie. She was based on angel salvadore.
This was my favorite of the x-men movies for me, I gotta say. X2 is great and all, but I feel like more attention was paid to all the different x-men in this movie. Just got a better look inside the characters in this movie, even if it was only a little bit for some of them. Really loved the mystique parts. Kevin Bacon was awesome as well. Banshee was badass. Xavier and Mags stole the show, as expected. I think they could have stretched out the xavier and magneto friendship into a second movie. Could have waited until then to turn them against one another. Have the shadow king as the villain, since that's who cripples xavier in the comics anyway. Given the lack of closure for everyone besides Xavier and Magneto, I assume they are planning a sequel anyway. This is honestly near the top in my superhero movies list. Just loved so much about this. |
Explain havoc and the brother thing. Also explain shadow king.
Also I watched x-men and in that, xavier acts like he doesn't know why he can't read magnetos mind. Also, didn't beast have a cameo as a tv news anchor in one of the first x-men movies? Why wasnt he blue and furry? |
I don't think they are treating the other movies as gospel, as far as canon goes. I mean, emma frost was a little kid in wolverine, and that takes place way after this movie.
As far as the whole alex summers thing goes, there wasn't an actual need for them to mention he has a brother. Since cyclops isn't even in this, it has no real relevance. In the comics Shadow King is the first evil mutant xavier encounters, and what inspired him to create the x-men. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_King |
So havoc and cyclops are brothers?
I thought the guy that played beast looked like james marsden |
Oh wait Shadow King didn't cripple x, it was some other dude. Still, he's mad important to the x-men story, and he looked badass on the trading card I had as a kid.
|
doesn't Juggernaut cripple Xavier?
|
Nah, some dude named Lucifer.
|
Xavier is crippled three different times in the mainstream canon. An alien disguised as a tyrant oppressing a city is the first when he uses a stone to crush Xavier's legs. When Xavier is implanted with a Brood egg, the medic of the Starjammers uses his skills to craft Xavier a whole new body where his mind can be transferred into and thus he is able to walk again. This new body is crippled when the Shadow King resurfaces in an attempt to get revenge on Xavier. When the two fight on the astral plane, Shadow King's immense power is so severe that Xavier goes into convulsions in the real world where his spine is essentially destroyed. He is 'healed' when the mysterious mutant named Xorn is brought into the fold and uses his powers on Xavier. In truth, it is an imposter of Magneto who used nanotechnology to give the appearance that he had indeed granted Xavier with the ability to walk again. The imposter cripples the Professor when he unmasks and begins his takeover of Manhattan.

ugh
Hate that they retconned the whole xorn/magneto thing to be a skrull. That whole story was so awesome. But noooooooooo Magneto has to be an anti-hero. |
But on the topic of the movie, it was sweet as hell. I was literally on the edge of my seat during the last twenty minutes. The real surprise was Kevin Bacon as Shaw. He essentially turned the character into something of his own design. Sure, there were inaccuracies but that's mainly because the other movies were inaccurate. But Bryan Singer BELONGS with this franchise.
|
Dunno, after that I'd be perfectly fine with Vaughn directing future movies.
Also, pretty shocked they dropped an f-bomb in this movie. |
