Music of yr childhood

What kind of music did you grow up listening to?

I remember vividly listening to The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and a lot of motown. When I hear stuff like that, I can't help but smile and remember "the good ol days"

My mom and aunt were both kind of hippies so I was exposed to more psychedelic-leaning classic rock than anything, I guess. My father is a bit older so he always enjoyed doo wop and motown type of music.

Nobody I grew up around really liked 80s music, metal or arena/stadium style rock. I'm like the only person in New Jersey who doesn't appreciate the jersey holy trinity of Springsteen/Bon Jovi/Billy Joel. Just was never my thing.

The Destroyer 07-07-2011 06:06 PM

I'll be honest, I really didn't listen to much music at all before the age of about 16 or 17.

Really didn't care much for it at all before then.

Triple A 07-07-2011 07:46 PM

Like The Smashing Pumpkins and Rage Against the Machine and 311 and Green Day and Nirvana, and rap music mostly. My parents just listen to Arabic music.

Juan 07-07-2011 08:00 PM

Aside from all the Mexican music my parents listened to, I grew up listening mostly to "oldies"

Stuff like this

This plus a lot of country, Michael Jackson and whatever stuff my parents had lying around.

SuperSlim 07-07-2011 10:47 PM

I grew up listenin to Toni Braxton, then from there to the No Limit Soldiers, Bone Thugs and Harmony doin Crossroads and the such.

ron the dial 07-07-2011 11:00 PM

i grew up on country music because that's what my family listened to. lots of hank williams, johnny cash, waylon jennings, as well as garth brooks, reba mcentire, and brooks & dunn. my first 2 cds were vanilla ice - 2 the extreme and mc hammer - please hammer don't hurt em, though. also was a huge fan of weird al. couldn't get enough of that jokester. then i found q101 (the alternative station here) in 4th grade and my tastes changed considerably. lots of rock and grunge and punk and metal after that. never had much exposure to "classic rock" growing up because neither of my parents were into it. my dad actually dislikes most of it for some reason. had to find all of the "good shit" on my own.

ron the dial 07-07-2011 11:01 PM

fuckin parents had reo speedwagon and david bowie top hit albums that i dug on, too. just to a lesser extent back then.

ron the dial 07-07-2011 11:02 PM

and i guess when i was like 2 i told my grandma not to change the radio station because whitesnake was on.

Lavel 07-07-2011 11:14 PM

Hank Williams Sr. Patsy Cline, The Beach Boys, and The Temptations. Stuff like that when I hear them now it takes me back to being a little kid some of the best times of my life.

Feel childlike right now, it's very therapeutic, no homo

Gonna youtube a bunch of the old shit

Rammsteinmad 07-08-2011 06:26 AM

Mostly stuff like Michael Jackson and all those early 90's 'nostalgia' hits like Ace of Base, Ice MC etc...

And there was the 'Dad Rock'. Stuff my Dad would always have on in the car. Genesis, Beautiful South, Fleetwood Mac, Duran Duran etc.

AKin3D 07-08-2011 07:23 AM

So far everything already posted. I always had the radio on and never cared as long as it sounded good. Oldies, 80's, rock, what little rap that did get played at night, since we didn't have a rap station up here until 99, Pop, Punk...Whatever. Copy and Paste best of the late 80's/early 90's.

With that said, this song is always the first to pop into my head.

Oh and have to give some love to B2M . How many people can say they're 100% related to causing a population boom?

Even though she is a waste of space, my sister heavily influenced me on what music I listened to from about 8 (she was in her mid-teens at the time). I'd hear bands like Pantera, NIN, Therapy, REM, Hole, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins; and of course I started to listen to those acts, and metal/alt rock pretty much formed the basis of my tastes until I was 17, when I started to branch out into other styles.

Corporate CockSnogger 07-09-2011 08:51 AM

I grew up listening to stuff like

Genesis
The Who
The Jam
Rolling Stones

as well as whatever was played on music tv channels. Loved I believe I can fly.

As I started getting into my teens I would mostly listen to whatever was being played on Kerrang - Blink 182, The Offspring, Static X, Korn etc

First single I ever personally bought though...

FakeLaser 07-09-2011 11:34 AM

Totally had Mase - Feel So Good on a cassette single that I begged my mom to buy for me on line at Walgreens

Sean 07-10-2011 01:08 AM

I grew up listening to mainstream metal and punk like Metallica and Dropkick Murphys. Oddly enough, I can't stand either band these days.
