Remember when Tyrion fucked his Dad in book 3?

Buzzkill 10-20-2011 04:24 PM

Half way thru book 2...

SPOILER: show
Goodbye Renly...

VSG 10-21-2011 12:32 AM

Do you think it is worth I wait for this: http://www.amazon.com/George-Hardcov...sr_1_3?s=books

or buy each book in hardcover separately?

Requiem 10-21-2011 01:01 AM

Damn, nice. Gonna have to get that. Would buy the 5th in hardback right now while it is available, and then get those. Main problem is that stores often don't carry the hardbacks for some books for long. Only one available in hardback at my Barnes and Noble is the 5th one.

Buzzkill 10-21-2011 06:50 PM

God the Daenarys chapters are fucking boring

Requiem 10-21-2011 11:40 PM

In which book? She only had a couple chapters in Book 2 that I remember. Book 3 was incredible. Loved Daenarys.

Buzzkill 10-21-2011 11:41 PM

Yeah only thru book 2 still. Don't know who this Xari Xaros Xanthi fuck is and I don't care

Buzzkill 10-22-2011 02:14 PM

Loving this book, but damn he could have used a stricter editor. So many little side actions that don't advance the plot or the characters at all.

Requiem 10-22-2011 02:15 PM

Like? Kind of curious, as I never felt that way. Not saying there aren't any, but at the same time, those could be points that come into play later.

Buzzkill 10-22-2011 02:19 PM

Don't get me wrong, there's a ton that's obviously going to become relevant in the future. Most of it is with Arya I suppose. Just a ton of pages that could be cut out entirely without any negative impact. "On the fifth day, she and Hot Pie started wrestling around in the mud. Then they came across a village, and thought they came across some wolves. For the next few days, blah blah".

Not an actual quote, but just saying. I guess it helps establish the "reality" of the world, but it doesn't make for the tightest story telling.

And obviously a very minor complaint in the realm of such an awesome story

Requiem 10-22-2011 02:22 PM

I get what you're saying. But yeah I personally just really liked hearing about the world from their perspectives. I think a lot of those little details are important in a book. He spent more time describing actions and things they found, than unimportant details about the way things look ala Tolkien (ugh). Although I will say, he describes food more than is needed. Don't know what it is about food, but he does tend to go on and on about it sometimes. Guess it's because he's a fat guy.

Buzzkill 10-22-2011 02:29 PM

Yeah that's definitely true. Don't need to know every ingredient stuffed in that hen.

In the end I like all the characters so much that even hearing about Arya doing something totally inconsequential is still interesting.

Buzzkill 10-24-2011 10:53 PM

Holy shit..

Late Book 2 spoiler...

SPOILER: show
Goodbye Bran and Rickon...? GRRM is fucking brutal. No mercy for the reader...Also, sucks to be Catelyn Stark right now

Buzzkill 10-25-2011 02:27 AM

NVM

Shaved Monkey 10-25-2011 11:34 AM

Just finished book 4 and I dunno what to think. It was a good addition to the story but I was hugely disappointed because I didn't get any of the things I wanted out of the book.

Need to go pick up book 5 but I picked up the first 4 in paperback and 5 is only out in hardcover and I hate not having uniformity in my books.

:)
SPOILER: show
Yeah, legit hated Theon at that point. Even after finding out later, I still hated him for what he did to Winterfell. What a piece of shit, trying to suck up to Daddy.

Requiem 10-25-2011 12:33 PM

Book 5 is fantastic so far.

Book 4 spoiler

SPOILER: show
Cersei got what she fucking deserved. Jaime burning the letter she sent him was just one final 'fuck you'. Can't wait to see how she tries to get out of it (and hopefully fails). Will be so happy if she gets what is coming to her. She deserves to get flayed and publicly humiliated, tbh.

Jaime spoiler

SPOILER: show
Also. Just gonna say that I really like Jaime, even though he was a sister fucker. His character is just so good. Like, you hate him at first for being a Lannister, and there's this really negative connotation about being a Kingslayer. But then you get to find out why he did it, and he goes through a gradual transformation into this really likable person. He is really one of the most honorable characters in the books if you cast aside the incest part. Really takes his role on the Kingsguard really seriously when it comes down to it. He realizes that humanity is as much a part of honor as anything. Killing the mad king was dishonorable on the surface, but when you've witnessed such atrocities as he did, it makes more sense to deal with it instead of standing idly by for some false sense of honor. There's no honor in protecting someone so cruel and insane. Losing his hand really made him a lot more humble, and going back after Brienne was just one of those things that made me really like him. Then, giving her the sword 'Oathkeeper' and sending her out to find Sansa for good reasons instead of evil. Just think he is a really great character. His story was fleshed out really nicely, and he isn't as bad as you think he is when the book/show first started.

very late book 2 spoiler..

SPOILER: show
Yeah, I still fucking hate him. But I feel I will end up hating Ramsay Bolton even more. Cassel and Luwin both dead in 2 pages...:(

VSG 10-26-2011 09:04 PM

Damn you all, I am still on Book 1. So glad I went ahead with hardcover though, totally worth it.

I dunno. I don't think Cersei is going to get hers anytime soon. Maybe she gets roughly handled by the church a bit but she still has to fulfill the wood witch's prophecy regarding the younger Queen taking away everything from her. I think this incident is only going to serve to push her all the way over the edge

Also, there's thewhole thing with Qyburn and what I assume is a re-animated version of the Mountain that Rides. I'm figuring that Ser Loras dies of his wounds and somehow this (undead?) version of the Mountain gets promoted to the King's Guard and she makes use of him in a trial by combat..

SPOILER: show
Same. The fleshing out of his back story and personality was probably my favourite part of the 4th book. But now that I want him to stick around and fully redeem himself I can't help but figure that this is going to be one of those tragic stories where he only finally completely redeems himself in death. .

Requiem 10-28-2011 01:30 PM

First spoiler response

SPOILER: show
I don't think Cersei has any sort of power where she is now, and couldn't do anything such as promote anyone to the kingsguard. I think this is the beginning of the younger queen taking everything from her.

Or, it's a reference to Daeneryis but I dunno. If it isn't Dany, then I see it being the current other queen who will turn her own son against her. The King will end up saving her, and Cersei is going to get the short end of the stick. Or Varys is going to turn up again.

I couldn't see a reanimated Mountain ever being a part of the Kingsguard. The second Jaime heard about it, he would flip shit.

Buzzkill 10-29-2011 10:06 PM

Finished book 2, then read Hunger Games in one sitting. Probably the direct opposite in terms of story telling. Pretty entertaining tho.

Getting geared up for book 3

Buzzkill 11-10-2011 03:23 AM

wow finally a good dany chapter

300 pages into SOS
SPOILER: show
Glad to see Drogon finally roast a motherfucker

Shaved Monkey 11-10-2011 01:20 PM

Anybody finish Dance With Dragons yet?

Requiem 11-10-2011 01:40 PM

Almost.

Also Shaved Monkey, in response to previous spoiler.

SPOILER: show
Damn, just hinted at The Mountain being her Kingsguard person. Would have never thought it would happen but she is conniving and trying to find any way to save her ass. I don't see it going like she plans though.

SlickyTrickyDamon 06-12-2013 06:27 PM

Use this one to discuss the book :D

El Fangel 06-14-2013 11:49 AM

Ice and Fire nitwit

Lock Jaw 06-14-2013 02:43 PM

I have officially downloaded an e-book copy of Dance With Dragons. At first I was like "Man, reading on my computer screen sucks", but now I can't stop reading it.

El Fangel 06-15-2013 08:43 PM

Fix the title asshole.
